    Jansen, Emma M., St. Paul Ho me, KaukaunaAge 89, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2003 at St. Paul Home. Emma w as born in Kaukauna on April 16, 1914, daughter of the late Adolph and An na (Berghuis) Otte. On May 9, 1933, she married Clarence Jansen; he preced ed her in death on November 5, 1995. In her younger years she was a wonder ful seamstress and also enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework, travel, ceram ics, and photography. For several years, she worked in the Dietary Departm ent at the Kaukauna Community Hospital. Emma and Clarence were longtime a nd faithful members of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy.Survivors include three daughters: Margaret (Paul) Maes of Houston, Texa s; Patricia (Herman) Maes of Appleton; and Barbara (John) Kokke of Menash a; six grandchildren: Tony Maes of Houston, Patti Ann (Doug) Spade of Hous ton, Ann Marie (Jeff) Hunt of Marion, Ohio; Paul (Karen) Maes of Mechanics ville, Virginia; Yvonne (Tom) Hooyman of Menasha; Lisa (Jon) Rooyakke rs of Appleton; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughte r; a brother: James (Frances) Otte of Kaukauna; three sisters: Lorraine V an Handel of Kaukauna; Therese Otte of Neenah; Ethel (Don) Halbach of Kauk auna; a brother-in-law: Gordon Vande Hey of Menasha; two sisters-in-law: R ose Jansen of Little Chute and Gladys Jansen of Kaukauna; as well as ma ny nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant brother G eorge, a sister Margaret Vande Hey, and a son-in-law James Wolf.The funeral liturgy for Emma will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 2 9, 2003 at HOLY ANGELS CATHOLIC CHURCH, County Road KK in Darboy with F r. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Frie nds may call directly at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the ho ur of the liturgy.Many will remember Emma as a woman who was always busy — neither her han ds nor her mind were ever idle. She was also a woman who was deeply devot ed to her family. They each meant the world to her, and she will be sad ly missed by all.The family would like to extend their thanks to the entire staff at St. Pa ul Elder Services. Their love, care, and compassion made Mom’s stay with t hem very comfortable. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

    James C. Otte, 86, Kaukauna, passed away on Dec. 12, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital with the family by his side. James was born in the Town of Kaukauna on Aug. 13, 1922, son of the late Adolph and Anna (Berghuis) Otte. He attended school in Darboy and farmed his entire life in the Kaukauna area. James met his wife Frances (daughter of John and Alegunda Ebben) at The Nitingale Ballroom in Kaukauna. They were united in marriage on August 28, 1951, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom and spent 57 wonderful years together.
    James is survived by his wife Frances and four children, Eugene and good friend Debbie Forster, Kaukauna; Mary Jane and Edwin Knutson, Reedsville; Betty and James Boucher, Black Creek; and George and Cindy Otte, Cato; seven grandchildren, Bob (Jodi) Boucher, Brenda Boucher, Becky (Andy) Nielsen, Amy Otte, Joshua Otte, Jason Otte, and Edwin Jr. (Jenny) Knutson: four great-grandchildren, Brianna, MiKayla, Autumn, and Tristan. He is further survived by three sisters, Lorraine Van Handel, Theresa Otte, and Ethel (Don) Halbach; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Cindy; sisters and brother-in-law, Emma and Clarence Jansen, Margaret and Gordon Van De Hey, and Edward Han Handel; a brother, George; and a brother-in-law Edmund Ebben.
    The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at St. Katherine Drexel Parish at St. Mary's Site, 119 West Seventh St., Kaukauna. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna (766-2099) on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. where there will be a parish prayer service held at 7:30 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass.

    Lorraine S. Van Handel (Otte), Town of Vandenbroek, age 90, died on Saturday April 18, 2015 at Theda Clark Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 3, 1924 to the late Adolf and Anna (Berghuis) Otte. On May 6, 1942 she married Edward W. Van Handel at Holy Angels, Darboy. They shared 57 years of marriage before his death.
    Her family brought her great joy. Lorraine was a wonderful homemaker. She loved cooking, baking, ceramics, crocheting and quilting. She taught 4-H for many years. We have all been the benefactors of her beautiful gifts.
    Lorraine was a faithful member of St. John Nepomucene Church. Always attending daily mass until her health would not let her. Always praying her rosary beads.
    She was very wise and led each of us well. Lorraine had a home where all were welcome. She enjoyed many years at her cottage on Wheeler Lake in Lakewood. The family continues to enjoy these times. She loved wintering in Florida.
    Lorraine is survived by her 3 sons, Ed, Jerry and Dan; one daughter-in-law Sue (Dan) Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Vanessa Mills and fiancé Brent, Heather (Jim) King, Adam, Tyler (Samantha), Ted Van Handel and Anna (Sheldon) Franklin; great grandchildren, Michelle Mills, Kayla and Ashlyn King and Charlie Van Handel; and sister-in-law, Margaret and Bud Phillips. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Lorraine was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward, son Chuck and two infant children.     Ruth Brayton Sturm, 89 (nee Berghuis) translated back to spirit peacefully on Sept. 13, with her loving husband David at her side in their home in The Villages, Florida. Ruth was an R.N., B.S.N., and F.A.C.C.E. and had a 45 year dedication to obstetrics and childbirth education. If you are between 25 and 65 years of age, and born at St. Elizabeth's hospital, she was probably helping at your birth or held you as a newborn. Ruth was a fitness enthusiast and wellness advocate, exercising and swimming until the last few months of her life. She was Ms. Senior Wisconsin and was Ms. Congeniality at the Nationals competition in 1992; she was on The Villages cheerleading squad. She was passionate about Christmas and started an annual family tradition of decorating gingerbread houses. When she cooked, the batteries had to be in the smoke alarms as timers were not in her recipes. After retiring to Florida she became a Hospice nurse and gave much comfort to many of her fellow residents.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Berghuis; her first husband, Adelbert Brayton; brother, Robert Berghuis; brother-in-law, William Van Dyke; sister-in-law, Rose Berghuis; stepson, Rusty Sturm; and great-grandson, Delbert Sorge. Her always smiling face will be missed by her six children, Nancy (Thomas) Wilson, John (Mary) Brayton, Donald (Connie) Brayton, Barbara (William) Gilbert, Jeanne (Frank) Rhodes, and Joanne Brayton. There will be many fond memories to pass on to her 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings, Joan Van Dyke, Jack Berghuis, Mary DeBruin, Thomas (Terri) Berghuis, and Betty (David) Hahn. Ruth's philosophy was "live and love as hard as you know how and make this moment last, because the best of times is now".     Mary was an avid quilter who loved to garden, travel, bowl, and spend time in Eagle River. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and was always there to help others. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

    Accepted God's call to eternal life on March 11th. Paul was born on June 29, 1921 son of the late Albert and Nora Ashauer.
    Paul is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice (Hartzheim) of 61 years of marriage; three sons: Don and Ann, Dan and Mary Jo and Denis and Libby; two brothers: Ed and Ceil, Jerry and Bernice and his sister, Emma (Meyers), 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren;. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, two sisters, and two grandchildren. Close friends: Mary Ann, Bev and JoAnn, will miss him.
    Paul was a life long member of Sacred Heart Church, Sherwood. He was a lifetime resident of the Town of Harrison where he dairy farmed for 32 years, drove school bus for Kobussen Coaches and served as Town of Harrison Supervisor for 16 years. Paul was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Knights of Darboy and Sherwood Senior Citizens.
    Paul was an avid hunter and sturgeon spearer. He touched many lives in his years and will be fondly remembered as "Head of the Deer Camp" for many years as his treasured "second home" up north.
    Funeral services will be March 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ken Frozena officiating. Final resting place will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Special thanks to Boettcher Funeral Home and Fr. Ken Frozena.
    The family would like to thank the staff at Parkside Care Center and Paul's roommate Julius Hartjes for the special care they provided to Paul and the family. You will always be part of our extended family.

    Ashauer, Edmund M., W4115 Mani towoc Road, MenashaPassed away February 1, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Hospital of Pneumonia at t he age of 76. He was born August 7, 1927 to the late Albert and Nora (Berg huis) Ashauer in the Town of Harrison. Ed lived his entire life in that To wnship, except for the time he spent in the Army Air Force where he was st ationed in Guam. Ed married his friend and sweetheart the former Lucille “ Ceil” Rott on November 19, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna. T hey spent 56 wonderful years together. He was a carpenter and worked const ruction for many years. Ed also owned his own milk route where he hauled m ilk to Morning Glory Dairy in Appleton. He later farmed on Manitowoc Ro ad and his homestead on Harwood Road, where he was a dairy farmer, hog far mer and raised buffalo for a hobby. Ed retired at the age of 70 and contin ued to live on the farm until his death. He loved his family, his grandchi ldren, his Church and his neighbors. Ed always had a smile for everyone a nd time to visit or lend a hand. He was a former member of the Sherwood Li ons and was a member of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and an active memb er of the Sherwood Legion, Post 496 where he was Sergeant of Arms for ma ny years. He is survived by his wife, Ceil Ashauer; his three daughters, w ho were the love of his life, Jyl (Jim) Randerson of Kaukauna, Valery (Dic k) Davis of Menasha and Gayle (Jake) Pompa of Kaukauna; six grandchildre n, Jay & Julie Randerson, Wesley (special friend Amanda) & Travis Pompa a nd Eddy & Dena Davis.     Gerald L. "Jerry", Ashauer, 76, Town of Center, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a short illness on Sunday, March 28, 2010. He was born and raised on the family farm in the Town of Harrison on November 20, 1933, to the late Albert and Nora (Berghuis) Ashauer.
    Jerry married Bernice Vander Loop at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute on January 20, 1954. They were longtime and active members of St. Edward Catholic Church, Mackville. He was past president of Outagamie Pork Association, Town of Center Board member and he and Bernice were instrumental in developing Grand View Golf Course in Hortonville. Jerry was a lifelong farmer who loved to hunt, fish and provided for his family in a variety of ways with his time and talents.
    He will be greatly missed by his wife, Bernice of 56 years; children: Joe (Linda) Ashauer; Christii Ashauer; Jeff (Cindy L.) Ashauer; Cindy (Marty) Timm; Cathy (Mike) Timm; Jim Ashauer and Jason (Sari) Ashauer; grandchildren: Brianna Ashauer, Scott, Amie Arnoldussen, Quinn, Tristin DeDecker, Jesse (Becki) Ashauer, Justin (Rachel) Ashauer, Matthew, Maxwell Ashauer, Andrew, Victoria Timm, Kyle Timm, Zachary, Rebecca Ashauer; one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Ashauer; a sister, Em Meyer and a sister-in-law, Ceil Ashauer.

    Irene Mary Ruys, age 88, died peacefully on May 2, 2009, in the special month that celebrates Mother's Day. Irene was born in the Town of Buchanan on September 8, 1920, the daughter of the late William and Laura (Berghuis) Emmers. On June 3, 1944, she married Albert Ruys at St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks. They enjoyed 58 years together, before Albert died in 2003.
    Irene worked in the dietetics department of St. Elizabeth Hospital prior to marriage. After her marriage to Albert, she devoted herself to her life with Albert and their growing family. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Christian Mothers for many years. Irene was very artistic and creative, leaving many beautiful pen and ink drawings and crochet work for her children to cherish.
    In the early years of her busy family life, Irene grew a very large vegetable garden each summer. The family gardening experience became a source of many memories. In her late years, Irene occupied herself with crochet. She was also always ready for a game of cards or cribbage. Irene was very proud of her large family of 11 children, 18 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and a great-stepgrandson. Her efforts and hard work will always be appreciated. Deeply loved, she will be sorely missed.

    Gordon "Sonny" Van De Hey, age 73, passed away on March 9, 2013, at Prairie Homes Elder Services, LLC, of cardiac arrest. He was born on April 15, 1939 in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, the only child of Gordon and Margaret (Otte) Van De Hey. When he was two years old they moved to a farm in rural Menasha (Lake View Dairy). He farmed all his life alongside his parents. As a child he attended a rural one room school in the Town of Harrison, the Little Beecher School and St. Mary in Menasha.
    On June 10, 1961 he married the love of his life Verona Orlando at St. Mary Catholic Church in Crivitz. They were married for 51 years. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Vickie Ann and Chester David. Besides being a farmer his greatest joy in life was in February when he could go sturgeon fishing. He collected anything with eagles and antique tractors. He belonged to Fox Valley 2 Cylinder Club, the Chilton Steam Engine Club and a member of the Lake Park Sportsman's Club. His greatest joy in life was the Harrison Volunteer Fire Department Number 2, which he was in for 43 years, he was also the Fire Chief for 16 years.
    Sonny is survived by his wife, Verona, daughter Vickie (Tom Patterson) of Larsen, son Chester (Terri Green) of Menasha, granddaughter Ashley (Nick) Kiley of Menasha, grandson Travis (Alissa) Murray of Winneconne; six very wonderful great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Noah and Jamison Kiley, Hayden, Graycen, and Owen Murray. Other survivors include his in laws: Floyd Orlando of Oconto, Valentine Sikowski of Crivitz, Beverly Vande Hey of De Pere, Eunice Subert of Crivitz and Carl Rogaczewski of Marinette. A very special Godchild Lisa Vande Hey of De Pere and a very special cousin Patsy Maes of Darboy. He was preceded in death by a very special granddaughter Amanda Marie Van De Hey (who was his Angel) and one son-in-law Joe Sarnowski, his parents, grandparents: Adolf and Anne (Berghuis) Otte (which was his Godparents) and Henry and Patronella (Kerkhoff) Vande Hey, mother-in-law Florence (Rymer) Orlando, in-laws: Ileen Sikowski, Hilary Vande Hey, Marvin Subert and Patsy Rogaczewski.
    Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Father Paul Paider officiating. Friends and family may visit at Martens-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee Street, on Monday, March 11, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also on Tuesday at the CHURCH from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will take place at Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery in Darboy. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Prairie Homes House of Faith Staff, Heartland Hospice and Heartland Rehab for everything they did for Gordon and the family in the month that he was in your care. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

    VanHandel, Charles B. “Chuck ”, Little ChuteCharles B. Van Handel, age 47, was given the gift that God promises to a ll of us, “eternal life” on Friday, Jan. 23, 2004. He passed away unexpect edly - doing what he loved to do - snowmobiling. He died as he lived - wi th joy in his heart and a love for the outdoors. He was born on July 17, 1 956, to Edward W. & Lorraine (Otte) Van Handel. He married his high scho ol sweetheart, Sue Hietpas, and this past October they celebrated 25 yea rs of marriage. Chuck was known to all those who loved him as the person w ho could fix anything, sometimes being called the “sheeny”. His love of fa mily was always evident in all that he did. His children Tyler, Ted, and A nna have broken hearts — they will miss their dad whose gentle spirit h as guided them to be the people they are becoming. God gives many grac es — their Dad’s unconditional love for them was a wonderful gift. Chuck ’s quiet faith has been an example to all of us. Chuck was a faithful a nd well-respected employee of Don Hietpas & Sons Construction for the pa st 30 years. He loved his employers and they loved him.He is survived by his loving wife, Sue; his children Tyler, Ted and Ann a; his mother, Lorraine Van Handel; brothers Ed (Kathy) Van Handel, Jer ry Van Handel and Danny Van Handel.     Earl L. Schmidt, 62, Kaukauna, died unexpectedly Friday, July 11, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born in Appleton on May 28, 1946, to the late Lawrence and Loretta (Ashauer) Schmidt. On Oct. 14, 1967, Earl married Ann Liebergen at St. Mary Parish in Greenleaf. He was a member of St. Aloysius Parish in Kaukauna. Earl enjoyed fishing and traveling. He loved spending time with his family and was an especially proud Grandpa. Earl had recently retired.
    Earl is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann; three children, Kristine (David) Tadych, Greg (Amy) Schmidt and Robert (special friend, Jennifer) Schmidt, all of Kaukauna; six grandchildren, David, Crystal and Amanda Tadych, Sydney, Hayden and Samantha Schmidt; sisters and brothers, Ruthie Lemke, Joan (Steve) Woldt, Paul (Debbie) Schmidt, Alan (Donna) Schmidt, Rose Heegeman and Neil Schmidt; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin (Carol) Liebergen, Gordon (Bonnie) Liebergen, Theresa (Ray) Rozmarenowski and Ben Rottier. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Schmidt; and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Rottier.
    Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, until the time of Mass at 5 p.m. at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH (St. Aloysius Site, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna). The Rev. Jerome Pastors will officiate. Committal St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna.

    Kaukauna - Jacob R. Lamers, age 27, died at his home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. He was born in Kaukauna to Richard and Lori (Berghuis) Lamers on March 30, 1990. Jacob had a heart of gold and never hesitated to drop everything to help a friend. He played basketball for Kaukauna High School and his love of sports continued as a fan of all Wisconsin teams.

    Amanda Marie (Van De Hey) Jackson, a true angel here on earth, returned to heaven on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, with her husband and father at her side.
    Amanda was born on November 15, 1983, in Appleton, WI, and lived her entire life in her childhood home in Menasha, WI. She graduated from Kimberly High School in 2002. She also attended UW-Fox Valley. Amanda married her soul mate Kelly E. Jackson on June 10, 2006. Amanda truly enjoyed spending time with her and her husband's families. She had fond memories of her days on the family farm as a child and most recently taking special rides with her dad. She cherished the time she spent at Green Lake and fishing with her husband. She loved all animals especially her beloved cat Fritz. Although Amanda was not able to see all her dreams come true, one did this past January when her and her husband were able to travel to Disney World and visit Cinderella's castle. No one that knew Amanda will ever forget what a beautiful person she was inside and out and the courage and bravery she showed as she battled the cancer that took her from us much too soon.
    Amanda is survived by her husband of four years, Kelly Jackson; her father, Chester (Terri Green) Van De Hey, Menasha, WI; her grandparents: Verona and Sonny Van De Hey, Menasha, WI; an aunt, Vickie Van De Hey, Larsen, WI; cousins: Travis (Alissa) Murray and Ashley (Nick) Kiley; and her mother, Bridget Miller. She is also survived by her in-laws: Jerry and Kathy Jackson, Appleton, WI; a sister-in-law, Nicole (Trevor) Gelhaar, Sherwood, WI; and a brother-in-law, Scott Jackson, HI. Amanda is further survived by many more special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
    Amanda was preceded in death by her great-grandparents: Margaret and Gordon Van De Hey.
    A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the Mass at the church. Interment will take place in Holy Angels Cemetery, Darboy. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
    Amanda's entire family would like to thank Drs. Wycoff, Swanson, Krueger, Mortara and their entire staff, the staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice, the 7th floor staff at Appleton Medical Center, especially Dr. Turk and Donna, and the ladies at Central Scheduling at Theda Clark. We will be forever grateful to all the family and friends that took time to care for and spend time with Amanda and made sure she knew she never was alone especially, her grandparents, Kelly's mother Kathy and Grandma Kelley.
