Mary M. Probst, age 93 of Appleton, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born January 8, 1919 in Freedom, the daughter of the late James and Estelle (Powers) Shillcox. She married Earl H. Probst on February 7, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton.
In her twenties Mary worked with the Dept. of Agriculture in Appleton. After marriage she raised her family, and in 1960, she went to work for the H.C. Upon her father's passing, she brought her mother, Estelle, in to live with her and her family, and cared for her for over 20 years. Mary and Earl traveled extensively to many parts of the U.S. and world, always bringing their children when possible. Mary will be greatly missed by those who knew her, but especially by her family and her beloved little dog, Zoe.
Mary is survived by her husband of 67 years, Earl; her children: Thomas (Ruth) Probst, Waukesha, Robert Probst, Eagar, AZ, and Victoria Kluge, Appleton; grandchildren: Henry (Pam) Probst, Charles (Juanita) Probst, and Alyssa (Josh) Dieringer; four great grandchildren; her brother Wayne (Germaine) Shillcox; and sister-in-law Nellie Shillcox. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sister Wealtha (Ben) Smudde, and brothers John (Dorthy), Grant, and James (Lorraine) Shillcox.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 13, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St., Appleton, with her nephew, Father Tim Shillcox officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name for the Appleton Humane Society.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living and also to the staff on the 8th floor at AMC for the compassionate care shown to Mary.
