Obituary:
Mrs. Minnie Kempen, 67, died Friday night at her home at Little Chute after an illness of several weeks. She is survived by six sons, Martin and Arnold of Little Chute, Henry of Hollandtown, Corneil and Anton of Rudolph, and Wilbert of Kaukauna; two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary of Little Chute. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. John Church by the Rev. John Sprangers. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Kempen [nee VanderLoop] were held Monday morning at St. John's Church. Solemn requiem high mass was sung by the Rev. J.J. Sprangers assisted by the Rev. Theo. Verbeten and Father Theodore J. VanderLoop of De Pere. Six sons of Mrs. Kempen were the bearers. Members of the St. Elizabeth Society attended the funeral in a body. Interment took place at the Catholic cemetery at Hollandtown. Mrs. Kempen was 67 years old and is survived by two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth of this village and six sons, Wilbert, Kaukauna, Anton and Corneil, Rudolph, Henry, Hollandtown and Martin and Arnold of this place.

Obituary:
Mrs. Nellie Brochtrup, 78, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John DeByl, DePere, at 7:30 last evening after a 1-week illness. She was born in the town of Woodville, Calumet County, and lived in Forest Junction until a year ago. Mrs. Brochtrup was a member of the Altar Society of St. Francis Church, Hollandtown.
Surviving are three sons, William, Hollandtown; Edwin, Sherwood; Peter, Menasha; two daughters, Mrs. John [Cora] DeByle; Mrs. George [Celia] Bruecker, Askeaton, Wis.; a sister Mrs. Jospeh [Johanna] Rolf, Sherwood, and 26 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 Saturday morning at St. Francis church, Hollandtown, by the Rev. Cornelius Raymakers, the cortege forming at 9 o'clock at Greenwood Funeral Home, Kaukauna. The body may be viewed at the funeral home where the rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight and Friday night.

Biography:
ARNOLD VAN DER LOOP, who for the past eighteen years has been engaged in general farming and dairying in the town of Vandenbroek, is one of the prosperous and well known farmers of his locality. He was born October 2, 1863, in Calumet county, Wisconsin, and is a son of William Van Der Loop, who came to the United States at the age of thirty-three years, with his wife, Cora (Jacobs) Van Der Loop. They settled in Calumet county, where his father, Arnold Van Der Loop, had purchased land about eight years before. William Van Der Loop later purchased property here, but afterwards moved to Brown county, and there died at the age of seventy-six years, in 1902, his widow surviving until 1910, and dying at the age of eighty years in Calumet county. Arnold Van Der Loop was one of a family of nine children, and his education was secured in the district schools of his native vicinity and the Sisters' school at Hollandtown, Brown county. As a lad he was reared to farming, and worked on his father's farm until he had attained the age of twenty-five years, when he was married to Miss Delia Gloudemans, who was born in the town of Vandenbroek, January 17, 1839, daughter of Adrian Gloudemans. Eleven children have been born to this union: Annie, born March 10, 1890; William, October 14, 1892; Cora, August 24, 1893; Martin, July 20, 1895; Mary, August 3, 1897; Hattie, April 30, 1899; Minnie, April 14, 1901; John, April 8, 1903; Henry, January 22, 1905; Peter, April 12, 1907; and Rose, April 9, 1909. At the time of his marriage, Mr. Van Der Loop rented land in Calumet county and continued to live thereon for four years, at the end of which time he came to Vandenbroek township, and in 1893 bought the property which he is now operating, a well-developed tract situated on Little Chute Rural Route No. 9. Mr. Van Der Loop has always been a hard and energetic worker, and the prosperous condition of his farm testifies to his ability as an agriculturist. He has carried on general farming and dairy work, and has given his entire time to his land, which is as highly productive as any to be found in this part of the township. He and Mrs. Van Der Loop are faithful members of St. John's Catholic Church of Little Chute.

Arnold Vander Loop. 75, died Friday evening at his home in Little Chute after a lingering illness. Survivors arc the widow, five sons, the Rev. Martin Vander Loop, Valier. Mont.; the Rev. John Vander Loop, Sunburst, Mont; William, Freedom; Peter and Henry, Little Chute; seven daughters, Sister Mary Arnold, Racine; Sister Mary Cornelia. Roxbury, Wis.; Sister Mary Esther, Knowles, Wis.; Mrs. Henry Vanden Eng and Mrs. Anton Hooyman, Freedom; Mrs. George Kaster, Seymour; and Mrs. Martin Evers, Little Chute; thirty-one grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Rolf, St. John; and Mrs. Herman Brochtrup, Forest Junction. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. John Catholic church in Lit tle Chute with burial in the par ish cemetery. Members of the sen- ior Holy Name society of which Mr. Vander Loop was a member will attend the services in a body.

Biography:
HENRY VANDERLOOP, proprietor of Pleasant Hill Farm in Worden Township, w as born in Calumet County, Wis., April 24, 1868, son of William and Cornel ia (Jacobs) Vanderloop. The parents were born and married in Holland, comi ng to the United States in 1861. They settled in Calumet County, where William bought a tract of Government land, where he farmed until a few years before his death, in 1902, at the age of 76 years. He was a prominent man in his township, taking an active part in local affairs. His wife died in 1910 at the age of 87. Their children-seven in number-were Minnie, now residing in Calumet County; Bardelia, of Brown County; and Nellie, Arnold, of Outagamie County, Wis.; Henry, Annie and Anton, all of whom live in Calumet County, except Henry.Henry Vanderloop came to Clark County in 1898 and bought the eighty acres of land that constitutes his present farm, but which was then wild land without improvements. These he has since made himself and has been very thorough in what he has undertaken. His present house was completed in 1902 and is a commodious and comfortable residence. In the year previous he built a barn 38 by 80 feet in size, ground dimensions, and 18 feet high, with room for thirty head of cattle and horses. His cattle are graded animals of the Durham breed, his horses being of the Percheron stock. He milks sixteen cows and raises hay, corn, oats and other crops. His farming operations have been conducted with energy and good judgment and his financial condition has improved from years until he has taken rank among the substantial citizens of Worden Township. Aside from his immediate farm interests, Mr. Vanderloop was secretary for two years and treasurer of the West Worden Dairy Company and holds the same offices in the West Worden Telephone Company. In 1906 he was elected a member of the Worden Township board, serving until 1908, and in 1915 he was again elected to the board, of which he is still a member. He belongs to the Equitable Fraternity Union Lodge at Stanley, and is a member of the Catholic Church.Mr. Vanderloop -was married Oct. 4, 1892, to Mary Huls, who was born in Calumet County, Wis., daughter of Henry and Catherine (Ziebing) Huls, the parents being natives of Holland. Mr Huls, who was a farmer, was born in 1828, and died in April, 1908. His wife survived him only a few months, passing away June 30, the same year, her age also being 73 years. They had nine children: Lida, who was born in Holland; Johanna, William, John, Morris, George, Barney, Mary and Henrietta. All were born in Holland except Mary and Henrietta, Johanna and William are now deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Vanderloop have had a large family numbering twelve children, whose names, with dates of birth, are as follows:

Of these children three are now deceased: Hattie, who died June 15, 1896, when less than 4 months old; William, who died Aug. 31, 1897, at the age of 3 months and 10 days, and Harry M., who died Oct. 2, 1898, at the age of 2 months and 11 days.Mr. Vanderloop has made remarkable progress since coming to Clark County. After buying and paying for his farm he was without funds, but he now has one of the best farms in Worden Township, with a good standing at the bank. This good showing is due to his enterprise and unremitting industry, backed by a thorough knowledge of the business in which he is engaged. He takes a warm interest in every project for the good of the community at large and can always be depended upon to support a worthy cause.

Henry Vanderloop, beloved and respected pioneer, kind neighbor, faithful friend and an exemplary citizen, passed away very suddenly at his home on Saturday evening, March 18, 1939, of heart trouble. He was born April 25, 1868 in Calumet County, where he grew to manhood.
He was married to Miss Mary Huls Oct. 4, 1892, at Holland, Wis. They made their home at Holland for a few years and in 1898 they came to Stanley country, where they have since made their home on a farm. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Vanderloop and ten children. They are: Cora (Mrs. Peter Henke) of Stanley; Elizabeth (Mrs. Henry Hoks) Menasha; Minnie (Mrs. John Capaul), Cornell; Mathilda (Mrs. Ray Brown), Agnes, (Mrs. Arthur Jacque), of Thorp; Henrietta (Mrs. Herbert Bosseler), of Port Washington; Rose (Mrs. Henry Frese Jr.), of Thorp; Wilfred and Raymond Vanderloop of Port Washington, and Sylvester of this city. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother: Mrs. Herman Brochtrup and Mrs. Joe Rolfe of Forest Junction, and Arnold Vanderloop of Little Chute. There are twenty-six grandchildren.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Ann's Church with rev. P. Pitzenberger officiating. The pallbearers were, Balzer Capaul Sr., Henry Driessen, C.A. Ebben, Paul Haase, John Bohman and Hebert May.

Obituary:
A.J. Kempen, 77, Grotto Ave., Rudolph, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He had returned home earlier that day from St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, where he was treated the past week for a heart condition.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Philip's Catholic church, Rudolph, the Rev. G. J. Muller officiating. Burial will take place in All Soul's Cemetery there.
Mr. Kempen came to the Rudolph area in 1921. He built and operated a cheese plant there for three years and then owned and operated the Rudolph Oil Co. until his retirement in 1946.
He was born at Woodville, Wis., June 13, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kempen, and married Mayme Joosten at Rudolph, Sept. 21, 1922.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are seven daughters, Mrs. Edward O'Shasky, Mrs. William Jagodzinski, Mrs. John C. Schenk, Mrs. Marvin Van Asten and Mrs. Robert Zubella, all of Rudolph; Mrs. James See, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Greg Van Asten, Krakow, Wis.; a brother, Martin, Little Chute; a sister, Mrs. Cyril Goffin, Appleton; 48 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Four brothers, a sister and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
At the time of his death Mr. Kempen was president of the Rudolph Senior Citizens Club. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and had been its financial secretary for over 30 years, and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Friends may call at Ritchay Funeral Home after 11 a.m. Friday.
The COF and Holy Name will join in rosary at 7 p.m. Friday, and there will be a general rosary at 8 p.m.

Services held for Miss Mary Kempen
Little Chute - Funeral services for Miss Mary Kempen, 38, who died Tuesday evening at the home of her brother Martin Kempen in Little Chute, after a lingering illness, were conducted at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at St. John Church by the Rev. John J. Sprangers. Interment took place in the Catholic cemetery at Hollandtown and the Rev. Father Sprangers also had charge of the service at the grave.
The bearers were Adrian Biesterveld, John Timmers, John Vandenberg, Henry Hietpas, Charles Coppus and L. Vander Heiden. The decedent was born at Woodville, Calumet county, July 22, 1899, and had been a resident of this village for about 15 years. Surviving are six brothers, Martin, Little Chute; Wilburt, Mishicot; Anton, Cornelius and Arnold, Rudolph; Henry, Hollandtown; one sister, Mrs. Cyril [Elizabeth] Gossen, Appleton.

She was 92 years old.Sister Maryjo was born September 29, 1911 to Arnold and Gardina (nee Gloud emans) Van Der Loop in Little Chute, Wisconsin. On August 28, 1928, Joseph ine Van Der Loop joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 19 29 she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Arnold. She professed h er first vows in 1931 and her final vows in 1937. In 1968 she changed h er name to Sister Maryjo.She received her B.A. from St. Norbert College, De Pere. Sister Maryjo spe nt many years in ministry to others as a teacher. She started her teachi ng career in 1931. In the Green Bay Diocese she taught at SS. Peter & Pau l, Green Bay and Holy Cross, Kaukauna. She retired to Siena Center in 19 83 and continued to tutore in the Jail Ministry Program from 1986-1992.Sister Maryjo is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associate s, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her fi ve brothers: William, Peter and Henry, Rev. Stephen Van Der Loop, O. Prae m, Rev. Theodore Van Der Loop, O. Mrs. Peter Henke
Funeral services and a requiem Mass for Mrs. Peter Henke (Cora Vanderloop) were held at St. Anne's Catholic Church at Stanley on Wednesday, June 5, 1957 at 9:30 a.m., with Father Edmund Cramer officiating. Burial took place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Stanley.
Mrs. Henke passed away suddenly at her home in the town of Worden on Sunday, June 2nd at 4:45 p.m. She was born at Holland, Wisconsin, on July 13, 1893 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vanderloop and when very young came to make her home in the Stanley country where her parents located in farming.
She attended High School at Stanley and was engaged as a rural school teacher for a few years. On January 7, 1920 she was united in marriage to Peter Henke at St. Anne's Catholic Church at Stanley, who with 4 children survive her: Lucy (Mrs. Bernard Haas) of Cadott, Evelyn (Mrs. Melvin Haas) of Thorp, Phyllis (Mrs. Marlin Johnson) od Stanley and Donald at home. A daughter, Geraldine, passed away in 1941.
She is survived also by her mother, Mrs. Vanderloop and five sisters: Minnie (Mrs. John Capaul) of Cornell, Agnes (Mrs. Arthur Jacques) of Thorp, Tillie (Mrs. Ray Brown) of Cedarburg, Henrietta (Mrs. Herbert Bossler) of Port Washington, Rose (Mrs. Henry Frese) of Thorp; and two brothers, Sylvester of Stanley and Wilfred of Fredonia, Wis., and 10 grandchildren.
Six nephews served as pallbearers: Bernard Hoks of Menasha, Raymond Capaul and Harold Capaul of Cornell, Duane Jacques of Milwaukee, Robert Capaul of Minneapolis and Roger Frese of Thorp.

Raymond was killed in WWII by a sniper in Italy. He was a member of the 15th Infantry, 3rd Division and received the Purple Heart. He is buried in Nettuno, Italy, south of Rome. He was 6' 3" and weighed 214 lbs. when he enlisted in September 1941. Army serial #36219058

Mrs. Mary Vanderloop receive a telegram on Wednesday that her son, Cpl. Raymond J. Vanderloop, was killed in action on November the seventh somewhere in Italy. Raymond left for the army on Sept. 10th, 1941 and landed in Africa on Nov. 8, 1942 and was killed on Nov. 7, 1943.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1918, the youngest of the family. His father died on March 18, 1939.

Delores E. Kappell, 92, Kaukauna, passed away, Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born March 21, 1916, to the late Anton and Mary (Wolfinger) Vander Loop in Dundas, on the family farm and had been a resident of Kaukauna for over 60 years. On Oct. 5, 1939, Delores married Sylvester Kappell at Francis Catholic Church, Hollandtown. She enjoyed watercolor painting, gardening, crocheting, socializing and playing cards with friends. Delores was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and it's choir, Catholic Knights, the Altar Society and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her seven children, Sister Karen Kappell, F.S.P.A., Manitowish Waters, Wis.; Susan (James) Nelson, Appleton; Ronald (Linda) Kappell, Stevens Point; Jill (Michael) Huss, Kaukauna; Allen Kappell, Kaukauna; Mary Ann (David) Nagan, Kaukauna; Daniel (Kim) Kappell, Kaukauna; 19 grandchildren, Sonja, Kevin (Dixie), Michael (Amy), Kristy (Corey), Kerry (Dwayne), Lisa (Sam), Anthony (Guimel), Timothy, Mark, Craig (Nickie), Chad (Laura), Angela, Aaron, Justin, Katie, Sarah, Michelle, Kortney and Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Alexia, Nathan and Jack; a son-in-law, Allen Wihksne; a daughter-in-law, Donna Kappell.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Delores will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at St. Katharine Drexel (St. Mary site) 119 West Seventh Street, Kaukauna, with Father Jerry Pastors officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday and on Wednesday at the church, from 10 a.m., until the time of the mass. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at 7 p.m., Tuesday.

American glider pilots, along with airborne forces, spearheaded all the major invasions, landing behind enemy lines in their unarmed gliders in Sicily, Normandy, Southern France, Holland, Bastogne, Rhine Crossing, Luzon in the Philippines, and Burma. One veteran American glider pilot painted a vivid picture of the stark terror they experienced. "Imagine", he said, "flying a motorless, fabric-covered CG-4A glider, violently bouncing and jerking on a 11/16 inch thick nylon rope 350 feet back of the C-47 tow plane. You see the nervous glider infantrymen behind you, some vomiting, many in prayer, as you hedge-hop along at tree-top level instinctively jumping up in your seat every time you hear bullets and flak tearing through the glider. You try not to think about the explosives aboard. It's like flying a stick of dynamite through the gates of Hell." There were only about 6,000 American military glider pilots, all volunteers. They proudly wore the silver wings with the letter "G" superimposed on them. The brash, high-spirited pilots were not a bit bashful about letting everyone know that the "G" stood for "Guts".

Vincent J. Kempen, 88, of 3151 Reddin Road, Wisconsin Rapids, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Family Heritage Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. John Swing will officiate. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Rudolph.
Vince was born June 9, 1916, in Blenker to Cornelius and Marie (DeBruin) Kempen. He married Lucille Maziarka on Nov. 18, 1940, in Stevens Point.
Vince was employed at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Co. in the Port Edwards Division for 33 years, retiring on June 1, 1978. At one time, he was president of Papermakers Local No. 59.
Vince was a member of the Rudolph Senior Citizens, and he loved hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Wisconsin Rapids; sons, Donald (Kathi) Kempen of Wisconsin Rapids, James (Joy) Kempen of Port Edwards, and Richard (Bonnie) Kempen of Wisconsin Rapids; daughter, Betty (Jerome) Duda of Wisconsin Rapids; brothers, Clifford (Marge) Kempen of Chicago, Ill., Leo (Arline) Kempen of Appleton; sisters, Rachel Anderson of Wisconsin Rapids, Sylvia (Archie) Marcoux of Wisconsin Rapids, Jalleta Darr of Antigo, and Florence Nash of Wisconsin Rapids; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, David Thomas; daughter, Rose Marie; infant great-grandson, Jarred; and three brothers.

Kempen, Kenneth Joseph After a courageous struggle with illness, Kenneth Joseph Kempen passed away on August 18, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, surrounded by his family. He was born July 8, 1928, son of Henry and Leona (Heiting) Kempen in the Town of Woodville, Calumet County, where he lived and farmed the Kempen homestead. Kenneth was a member of St. John-Sacred Heart Church in St. John.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Probst) Kempen whom he married April 26, 1982. In addition to his work on the farm he was over 30 years a sales representative for Vigortone Agricultural Products Co. He also enjoyed being a bartender at Van Abel's Supper Club of Hollandtown where he served for over 50 years. In his younger days Ken was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing and throughout his life enjoyed traveling. He was an enthusiastic card player (especially sheepshead) with many friends and family. Ken was loyal and hardworking in all he undertook to do, always careful to get the job done right. At the same time he was a kind and caring man, special to everyone who knew him.
He will be sadly missed and remembered by his wife, Phyllis and children: David Kempen, Page, AZ; Connie (David) Cady, Danville, CA; Wesley (Michelle) Kempen; Stan (Renee) Kempen; and Lisa (Joseph) Kocourek; all of Brillion. Furthermore Ken will be fondly remembered by grandchildren: Ryan and Erin Cady; Zachary, Alexxes, Mitchel and Sawyer Kempen, Garrett and Evan Kocourek, Abigail Smith, Laura Kempen and great grandsons, Ian and Aiden. Ken is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Kempen of Page, AZ, nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as members of his wife's family brothers-in-law: Ralph Probst, Sherwood; Allen Probst, Saudi Arabia; sister-in-law, Nancy Probst, Appleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Melvin. His passing leaves a deep gap in the lives of those he knew and loved.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Church in St. John, with Father Rev. Father Phillip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Hollandtown. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22 and on Thursday at church from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Robert M. Kempen passed away on Feb. 24, 2017 at Assisted Living in Page, Arizona. He was born Feb. 18, 1939 in Green Bay, WI, son of the late Henry and Leona (Heiting) Kempen. Bob was a graduate of Brillion High School, class of 1957 and served his country in the U.S. Army.
In 1962 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Probst in St. John, WI. They became parents of son David (deceased) formerly of Page, AZ, daughter Connie (David) Cady of Danville, CA - children Ryan and Erin, son Wesley (Michelle) of Brillion, WI - children Isaiah, Alana, Isabell, Alyssa, son Stan (Renee) of Brillion, WI - children Zachary, Alexxes, Mitchel, Sawyer, daughter Lisa (Joe) Kocourek of Brillion, WI - children Garrett and Evan. Later they divorced. After over a decade of farming in WI, Bob moved to Arizona where he owned and operated Bob's Boat Transportation with son David and other employees. In his life Bob was a stockcar driver and enjoyed fishing, water-skiing and snowmobiling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melvin and Kenneth.

Eileen W. Pagel, age 89, died July 1, 2014. She was born February 4, 1925, in Little Chute, the daughter of Martin and Delia (Hermsen) Kempen. She married Bob Pagel November 16, 1946, at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute. Eileen traveled extensively, especially as a military wife. Visits to the Catholic shrines of Lourdes, France, Medjugorie, Yugolsavia and the Holy Land were spiritually inspiring. She was very active at St. Peter's Catholic Church, fed the poor at the Luke House, led the rosary and was a lector at the weekday and Sunday Masses, was Eucharist minister at Masses and for the homebound and started St. Peter's prayer ministry. She loved music, played the piano, and sang with the MATC choir. MATC choir took the group to Rome, Italy, where they sang for Pope John Paul II and at a Mass at St. Peter's Basilica. She accompanied Bob on several military assignments and in 1951, she took three children, ages 8 months, 2 and 3 years old, by ship to be with Bob in Bordeaux, France.
Eileen composed several poems. This one was her favorite: THE SWEETNESS OF LIFE. Life can be sweet, it can be sour. It is all up to you and your attitude. You must know Jesus and what he died for. He suffered for you and he suffered for me. This opened the gates of heaven, you see. So when troubles come your way, face them until the end of the day. When night time falls and you go to bed, upon your pillow you place your head. You think of Jesus and what he once said, I'm leaving for heaven, but my spirit I will send to comfort and guide you till we meet again. So do not grow weary and throw up your hands, for Jesus is with you, up to the end.
Eileen is survived by her dedicated husband, Bob, married for 67 years; a son, Tom (Jeanne) Pagel and three daughters, Mary (Sam) Valenza, Barbara (Wayne) Acker, and Patricia (Ron) Bowden; one sister, Donna (Jim) Wildenberg.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; son, Daniel Pagel; brother, Don Kempen, three brothers, Giles Kempen, Harvey Kempen, Marvin Kempen; and three sisters, Bernice Kempen Zenefski, LaVern Van Heuklon, and Audrey Kempen.

Casper, Ruth Ann (Van Vreede) KimberlyAge 80, was born to eternal life at her home on Sunday, January 19, 200 3. She was born in Wrightstown on January 28, 1922; daughter of the late A nton and Anna (Gerrits) Van Vreede. She married Alvin Casper in Eyer, Mass achusetts on April 5, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1983. Ruth lik ed to fish and said she was “best fisherwoman in the state.” She was an av id packer fan and even attended the “Ice Bowl.” Ruth dearly loved her fami ly and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Ruth is survived by two daughters: Sandy (Eugene) Evenson, Neenah;and Peg gy (special friend Mitchell) Casper, Green Bay; 14 grandchildren: Barry (s pecial friend Ann) Seidel, Barbie (Eric) Boyer, Susie (Jay) Scandin, Chris ty (John) Nemcek, Greg (fiancee Jill) Seidel, Tracy (Mike) Winter, David ( special friend Stephanie) Derfus, Sera (special friend Jem) Froland, To ny Casper, Nikki Casper, Debra (Mike) Elsbecker, Diane (Jeff) Weyenberg, D aniel Evenson, and David (Stacy) Evenson; 18 great-grandchildren; brothe r, Eugene (Katie) Van Vreede, South Carolina; and a sister, Elaine Yunk, K imberly. Eugene Van Vreede, 85, 607 Eagles Nest Boulevard, Rothschild, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.
Eugene was born May 15, 1924, in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, to the late Anton and Joanna (Gerrits) Van Vreede. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in France, where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He married Alice Dorschner on May 26, 1951. She preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 1975. He then married Kathleen Holzem Pierce on March 10, 1976, in Wausau, she survives.
Gene loved building bird houses, gardening, hunting, fishing, cribbage and working crossword puzzles. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen, Rothschild; two sons, Doug (Barbara) Van Vreede, St. Paul, Minnesota and Mark Van Vreede of Little Chute, Wis.; one granddaughter, Sara Van Vreede; sister, Elaine Yunk, Kimberly, Wis.; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four stepchildren, Charlotte Meadows, Colleen O'Brien, Cynthia Wenzel, Karl Pierce, and many step- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Casper and Dorothy Grayalna and a stepson Kendall Pierce.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at St. Mark's Parish, 602 Military Road, Rothschild. The Rev. Allan L. Slowiak will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery, Wrightstown, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Montgomery Post #10.

Kenneth A. Lang, 89, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Rennes Health Care Center in Appleton, Wisconsin. Ken was born on March 9, 1924, in Appleton to the late Raymond P. and Mae B. (Gerritts) Lang. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1942. Ken proudly served his country during World War II as an Army Staff Sargent in the 288th Combat Engineer Division. Upon returning from the war, he married Lucille M. Vanden Heuvel on July 10, 1946 and worked for Eisley Engineering. In 1954, Ken formed a partnership with Clem Boucher to start Lang & Boucher Heating & Air Conditioning which they owned until they sold to their sons in 1980. He was an original stockholder and served on the board of directors for Service & Supply Inc.
Ken was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where he served on parish council for several years, was a member of the Men's Society and many committees, including being a chartered member of Boy Scout Troop 9 at St. Pius. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 60 years. He was also an active 20 year member of the Appleton Noon Lions Club. Ken was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, bowling, baseball and golf. The Brewers and Packers were his passion! He participated in several bowling leagues and was well known around the Valley as a stellar softball pitcher. Starting in 1947, his baseball teams won many championships throughout the years. In 1962 and 1963 he pitched for St. Pius X softball team and won back to back championships in the American Church League. Ken and Lucy enjoyed many travels abroad and spent their summers at the lake with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife: Lucille; his six sons: Dennis and fiancée Mary Claypool, David and Debra (LaLonde), Charles and Nancy (Bergman), Robert and Debra (Zuehls), Mark and Julie (Kasper), James and Deborah (Lemke); grandchildren: Andrew Lang, Eric (Lynn) Lang, Sarah Lang, Jennifer (Tim) Eddy, Elizabeth (Rick) Romenesko, Nicole (Derek) Sokloski, Phillip Lang, Ryan (Laura) Lang, Aaron Lang, Janelle Lang and fiancée Nate Vande Walle, Evan Lang, Jordan Lang, Adam Lang and Katherine Lang, and ten great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters Rita (Joseph) Griesbach and Joanne Hoerning, brother Ted (Joyce), sister-in-law Isie Winius, brother-in-law Don Vanden Heuvel and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Chris & Rose Vanden Heuvel, sister Mary Jane (James) Oliver, brother Joseph (Nancy), sisters-in-law Joyce (John) Meyer and Janet Vanden Heuvel, and brothers-in-law Harold Winius and Bud Hoerning.
A Mass of celebration will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at St. Pius X Church, 500 West Marquette Street in Appleton with Father Tom Farrell presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Military honors will follow the Mass. Be there for the celebration of his life. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.

Midge Oliver, age 83, passed away peacefully at The Renaissance Assisted Living on Monday, January 31, 2011. Midge was born in Appleton on February 6, 1927. She is the daughter of the late Ray and May (Gerrits) Lang. On April 23, 1949, she married James Oliver in Appleton. Jim preceded her in death in 2003 after 54 years of marriage.
Midge enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of several bridge clubs, and spent much of her summer at the family cottage where she enjoyed boating, taking walks with her Grandchildren and making sure everyone stayed well fed. She was able to strike up a conversation with anyone she met and was never at a loss for words. Midge was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all.
Midge is survived by her three sons and five grandchildren: Stuart (JoAnne) Oliver of Golden, Colorado and their children Sarah (Chris) Schmidt and Jonathan Oliver (girlfriend Mary); Mark (Peggy) Oliver of Stevens Point and their daughter Megan (Jason) Kirk; Greg (Sandy) Oliver of Kaukauna and their children James and Kayleigh. Midge is further survived by two brothers: Ken (Lucy) Lang and Ted (Joyce) Lang; and two sisters: Rita (Bud) Greisbach and Joan (late Bud) Hoerning.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, an infant daughter Mary, and a brother Joe Lang.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 East Fremont Street in Appleton. Friends will be received at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.A memorial fund in Midge's name has been established.

Kerkhof, Dolores A., KaukaunaAge 75, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2004, following a brief illn ess. She was born on November 11, 1928 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the la te Joseph B. and Agnes (Meulemans) Gerrits. Upon graduating from Kaukau na High School she married Francis R. Kerkhof at Saint Francis Catholic Ch urch in Hollandtown on a sunny and beautiful June day in 1948. After a sho rt honeymoon, she and Frank began a lifelong adventure of operating the Ke rkhof Family Farm and raising eight children near Hollandtown, Wisconsi n. The family life revolved around Saint Francis School and Church in Holl andtown where the children attended elementary school. Dolores was employ ed at the Lee Store in Kaukauna and was a nursing assistant at St. Paul Ho me. She served as a 4-H leader as well as on the St. Francis Altar Socie ty for many years. Dolores spent her adult life parenting her children a nd supporting them as they raised their children. She never missed an oppo rtunity to share her love with her kids whether it be Christmas, birthda ys or holidays. A high point of her year was spending a week every July wi th her children and grandchildren at Wheeler Lake Resort in Northern Wisco nsin. Dolores also enjoyed golfing, traveling, bowling, and had a love a nd talent for music which many of her children and grandchildren inherite d. Leo J. Gerrits, age 86, of Hollandtown died November 2, 2017, at St Paul Hospice, Kaukauna. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kaukauna, WI on March 14, 1931 to the late Joseph and Agnes (Meulemans) Gerrits.
Leo served in the Army as a cook in the Korean War, October 1951 to August 1953. He married Lillian Hendricks October 1, 1953 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Most of his life, Leo farmed at the Gerrits Homestead in Hollandtown. Prior to farming he worked at the Thilmany Mill and during the early farming years, he hauled milk for White Clover Dairy. He was a member of Urban Klister American Legion Post 436 in Wrightstown, a Volunteer Fireman for the Hollandtown Fireman Department, and a member of the Countryside Snow Riders Snowmobile Club.
Anyone who knew Leo, knew he was very social and took much joy from visiting and chatting with family and friends. This served him well when he volunteered at the St. Paul Home, where his kindness touched the lives of many people. With his wife Lillian, he was in a Bowling league for many years at Van Abel's, played Sheephead with their card club each month, and loved getting together with the Homemakers Club. They both enjoyed spending time with their many friends and Leo loved to go "Windshield Farming," just driving around seeing all the crops and beautiful family farms. He enjoyed the "siblings" lunch each Friday at noon at Van Abel's where Leo and his sister, Eunice, and brothers, Fritz and Jerome Schmidt gathered to enjoy each other's company along with other family and friends.
The kindness and patience he devoted to his wife Lillian during her failing health was a true tribute to his love and commitment to his family.
He was blessed to find love and companionship again when he married Marian Nelessen on October 29, 2016 and during their short time together they had many memorable moments together with family and friends.
Leo is survived by his children: Joan (Ed) Van Dehy of Kaukauna; Jan (Ken) Donnermeyer of Kaukauna; Jeff (Julie) of Kaukauna; Joel (Deb) of Madison; Jack of Kaukauna; Jenny (Jim) Lamers of Kaukauna; and Jill (Bert) Frank of Chilton; grandchildren: Spencer, and Shaun Van Dehy, Samantha Uitenbroek; Ashley Schouten; Brian and Emily Gerrits, Jonah and Josh Gerrits; Eli, Emma and Ella Lamers; Alyssa, Addison and Afton Frank; great grandchildren: Grace and Meredith Van Dehy, Zoe Uitenbroek, Arianna and Blake Gerrits; his wife Marian Nelessen; her children Lois and Jerry Gremore and family; Mike and Julie Nelessen and family; Jane and Rick Vanden Boogart and family; and Roger and Marina Nelessen. Genevieve M. Donarski, 91, Green Bay resident, died Wednesday afternoon, December 12, 2012 at a local nursing home. She was born November 11, 1921 in Forest Junction, WI to the late John and Cora (Brochtrup) De Byl. Gen attended East De Pere High School graduating in 1939 as valedictorian of her class. She remained in De Pere until she married Edward Donarski in 1958 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in De Pere. Edward preceded her in death in 1992. Prior to her marriage, Gen was employed at the former Smith and Smith Law Firm and the De Pere Federal Savings and Loan Association. She was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Angels Parish, their Altar Society and Friendship Club.
Gen is survived by five children: Darlene (Mark) Castonia, Ashwaubenon; Gail Hansen, Denmark; John Donarski, Mark (Alison) Donarski and Paul (Valorie Helander) Donarski, all of Green Bay; nine grandchildren: Amy (Ray) Sears; James (Linda) Hansen; Tammy Castonia; Angela (Terry) Long; Audra Castonia; Ryan Donarski; Kevin Donarski; Brian Donarski and Jason Donarski; four great grandchildren: Steven and Leah Sears; Abigail and Jonah Long; nieces and nephews.

La Verne T. Schweiner, 77, Green Bay, passed away peacefully March 29, 2006 at Wyndemere Estates in Green Bay. La Verne was born on October 4, 1928 in Kiel, WI to the late John and Cora (Brochtrup) DeByl. She was a graduate of East DePere High School. On June 26, 1954 she married Gerald Schweiner at St. Mary?s Church in DePere and he preceded her in death on January 7, 2000. In her life her work as a homemaker was most important to her but she also worked for 40 years as a legal secretary at Smith, Smith and Roels in De Pere. She also volunteered at Bellin Hospital. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. She enjoyed time with family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and going for walks.

Sister Anne Brochtrup, age 91, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Thursday morning, May 4, 2017 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
The former Mary Alice Brochtrup was born on May 21, 1925 in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, daughter of the late William & Anna (Arts) Brochtrup and step-daughter of the late Rosella (Arts) Brochtrup. She entered the Convent in 1940 and professed her vows in 1943. Sister Anne earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc. Sister Anne served as a teacher at St. Therese, St. Pius X, St. Thomas More, all in Appleton; St. Mary, Brillion, St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay, St. Joseph, Green Bay, and Holy Cross, Kaukauna, Wisconsin; Immaculate Conception, Yuma, Arizona; St. Willibrord, Chicago, Illinois; Catholic Central, Menominee, St. Peter, Marquette, and St. Francis de Sales, Manistique, Michigan; Cathedral, Honolulu and St. Theresa, Kekaha, Hawaii. After retiring from teaching, Sister Anne served in various ministries at Good Samaritan, Zanesvile, Ohio and St. Mary, Kaukauna; St. Agnes, Green Bay; and St. Francis, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Since April 2017 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; one brother: Carlos, and one sister-in-law: Isabelle Brochtrup. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: William, Anna (Arts) and Rosella (Arts) Brochtrup; two brothers: Rev. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Placid Stroik, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Vanderloop, Gloria Jane Greenleaf' Formerly of Hollandtown, Age 83, joined her son William "Billy" and daughter Mary Carla in heaven on Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. She was born on April 12, 1931 in the Town of Holland, daughter of the late William and Rosella (Arts) Brochtrup. On January 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to Linus W. Vanderloop at St. Francis Church in Hollandtown by Gloria's brother, Fr. Eugene Brochtrup. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage. Gloria loved to bake, make homemade candies, canning, playing cards, needlework, swimming, and being together with family and friends.

Ann M. (Sommers) Petrie Resident of Fremont, California Ann Marie (Sommers) Petrie, 89, Fremont, CA, passed on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Washington Hospital in Fremont, California. She was born on May 25, 1924 in Forest Junction, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Michael and Bernadine (Brochtrup) Sommers. She graduated from Brillion High School in 1942. On June 19, 1949, she married Frank Gregory Petrie in Hollandtown, WI. At the time of her death, they were married 64 years.
Ann trained as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh, WI and finished her nursing training and worked at Wood VA Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. After marrying Frank Petrie, they settled in Waterford, WI. Ann worked at Burlington Hospital and then in a local physician's office. In the early 1960s, Ann and Frank adopted their children, Michael and Margaret. They moved to Fremont, CA in 1968.
Ann was involved in her children's education. She was active on parent committees at Saint Joseph's School and Irvington High School. Ann was devoutly Catholic; she attended weekly mass and lived the values of the Catholic Church. Ann was a kind woman, who dedicated her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Frank; children Michael Petrie; and Margaret Hoehn, Fremont, CA. Her grandchildren, Christina Costa, Reno; and Carl Hoehn, Fremont; and grandchild AJ Costa, Reno; sister Gerry (Roger) Weber, Hilbert, WI.; sisters-in-law, Lila Sommers, Brillion WI. and Joan Petrie, Sherwood, Wi., brother and sister-in-law Jim and Ginny Petrie, New Holstein, WI.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Donald Sommers; brother-in law Dave Petrie; brothers and sisters-in-law Gene and Lucy Schwarz and Kathleen and Hugh Goggins.

Donald Peter Paul Sommers, age 81, of Brillion, died unexpectedly on Monday May 7, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born on June 26, 1930, son of the late Michael & Bernadine (Brochtrup) Sommers. He graduated from Brillion High School in 1948. On June 9, 1951 he married Lila Elenor Krueger in Hollandtown. They were blessed to celebrate with family and friends last year their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Don had a long career in sales, starting out at Kloehn Electric with appliances, then cars. His next move was into insurance sales, where he was a State Farm Insurance agent for over 29 years. After that, he sold advertising for WMBE and WRJO radio stations. Don was a member of the Brillion Volunteer Fire Department from 1954 through 1964. He was also a member of the Brillion Jaycees, a Charter Lifetime member and past president of the Brillion Optimist Club, and was an active member of the Brillion Athletic Association for many years. He served on the Brillion City Council from 1964 through 1974. During his term, he was proud to be a part of the group that established the Brillion Community Center with a basketball court. Don also served as a Calumet County Board Supervisor from 1974 through 1986. After a two year break, he served again as a Supervisor for the county from 1988 through April of 2012. With his love for basketball, he was the volunteer basketball coach for St. Mary's School from 1962 through 1979. He coached both teams which included grades 5 through 8. He also had the help of good friend, Merrill Vanderhoof, for several years coaching the St. Mary's Raider teams. He enjoyed spending time with his three children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Don was a big sports fan and loved to play basketball. He played many years on the Brillion City team and Hilbert's team. He also loved to play tennis. You could even find him on the court when he was 79 years young, swinging a racket with his children and grandchildren. Matches even involved his nephew and Godson Mike. There might have been a few occasional questionable line calls from Don, mixed in the many matches through the years! Even though he couldn't swim, he enjoyed the water and boating. Don and Lila enjoyed visiting cottages of relatives and had a cottage of their own on Long Lake. He loyally followed the Brillion sports teams, along with being an avid Green Bay Packer fan and Ice Bowl survivor. Survivors include his wife Lila, his children, Cindy (Gene) Sievert of Reedsville, Don Mike Sommers of Oshkosh, Dave (Laurie) Sommers of Brillion, his grandchildren Dana (Chris) Hoyer and their children Ethan and Sevanna of Brillion, Briana (Nick) Abel of Brillion, Samantha Sommers, Alyssa Sommers, and Amanda Sommers all of Brillion, 2 sisters Ann (Frank) Petrie of Fremont CA, Gerry (Roger) Weber of Hilbert, 2 sisters-in-law Phyllis (Harlan) Krahn of Brillion, Dorothy (Otto) Rusch of Washburn WI, and many nieces, nephews and friends. My story began on September 26, 1943. I grew up in Menasha, WI, the youngest child of Peter and Marie (Broeren) Brochtrup. My family also included a brother, Frank, and two sisters, Mary Ann and Pat. I attended Sacred Heart Seminary in Oneida, WI for 6 years. After leaving the seminary, I graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, majoring in Sociology.
In March of 1967, I joined the Marine Corps and started Officer Candidate School. I received my commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in June and completed the Basic School (TBS6-67) in November. I served in Viet Nam as an artillery officer and am a veteran of the Battle of KheSanh during the Tet offensive. I've always been so very proud and honored to have served beside so many of my fellow Marines. It was a very important and meaningful time of my life.
After completing 3 years of service, I was a co-owner of Rubber Engraving in Green Bay, WI. I married Jane Danen in 1987. Together, we received the greatest gifts of our lives through the adoption of our daughter, Abby (from India), and 3 ½ years later through the birth of Natalie. I have loved my daughters more than anything in my life.
Upon retiring, I enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, bird watching, and gardening. I ran in the Bellin Run, played basketball in college, and was an avid sports fan - especially of the Packers!
I was blessed to be able to attend numerous Marine Corps reunions, ceremonies and get-togethers with my friends from the Marines.
On April 15, 2018, I left this earthly life and for brief a time, I leave my daughters, my sister, Mary Ann (Appleton), my brother, Frank and his wife June (Dallas TX), and my nieces and nephews.
A visitation gathering will be held at Mannafest Church 1545 University Ave, Green Bay, on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 6:30pm until the Prayer Service at 8pm with military honors to follow.
There will also be a Memorial Mass at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 710 N. Baird Street, Green Bay, at 12 Noon, Saturday, April 21, 2018 with Rev. Anthony V. Cirignani, OFM officiating.
