Obituary:
See Image Mrs. Petronella Van Straten,Widow of Henry De Groot, died last Friday at h er home on S. Erie street, after a year's illness. Mrs. De Groot would ha ve reached the age of 79 years had she lived until Friday, March 12. She l eaves to mourn her death four children, Delia (Mrs. Peter Meeuwsen) and Ge o. DeGroot of De Pere and Cornelius and John DeGroot of Wausaukee, al so 43 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. DeGroot died two yea rs ago. Mr. and Mrs. DeGroot were formerly owners of a farm in the to wn of De Pere but during the past 28 years made their home in this cit y. The funeral was held Monday morning form St. Mary's church, Re v. F. J. Peters officiating. The pallbearers were grandsons, William, Hen ry, Joseph and Norbert Meeuwsen and Joseph and William DeGroot. The Alt ar society attended in a body and interment was in Mount Olivet cemeter y. Mrs. De Groot was a well known resident and the esteem in which she h ad been held was evident from the large number of relatives and friends, w ho paid their last tribute of respect to her memory.

Agnes Frances Brownson, Shiocton, age 97, died peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. Agnes was born on September 30, 1909, in Shiocton, daughter of the late Leonard and Wilhelmina (Geurts) Van Straten. She married Clarence J. Brownson on August 24, 1937. Agnes was a charter member of St. Anne's Altar Society, St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton Community Club and the Women's Sheephead Club. She will be remembered for her great courage, religious fervor, gardening and culinary skills. Her children and grand-children have wonderful memories of holiday dinners and celebrations.
Agnes is survived by her five children: Sally Cullen, Janesville; Sandra Frechette, Kimberly; Robert (Nancy) Brownson, Shiocton; Mark Brownson, MN and Bernadette Borcher, Racine; twenty-one grand-children: Michele, Mark, Robert J., Lisa, Monica, Nicholas, Francine, Heidi, Daniele, Brian, Greg, Amy, Robert L., Delia, Andrea, Markita, Danielle, Kayla, Leha, Malayna, and Brittany; twenty-four great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, special nephew Ronald Poole, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, former Outagamie County Highway Commissioner and a son Joseph. Agnes was the last surviving member of her family; eight sisters and five brothers preceded her in death.
The Funeral Mass for Agnes will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton with Rev. John Kastenholz and Sr. Pauline Feiner officiating. Burial will be in the St. Denis-Bovina Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Special thanks to the staff at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour, for their loving attention. Sally Houterman, Alice Rozmiarek and special niece volunteer Ethel Diermeier were unstinting in their devotion to her care.

Erna Mae Warning Shiocton, born on May 14, 1919, and taken to her eternal rest on the 88th anniversary of her birth, May 14, 2007. Erna was born in the town of Bovina, Outagamie County, on May 14, 1919, to the late Leonard and Wilhelmina (Guerts) Van Straten. The 14th of 14 siblings, Erna grew up on the family farm in the Shiocton area. She attended the Liberty Bell Country School and later graduated from Shiocton High School. Erna married Elmer Warning of Hortonville on April 22, 1944, at St. Patrick Cathedral, El Paso, Texas. She worked in the Shiocton Post Office for 13 years at which time she chose to stay home to raise her children. She later returned to work for another 13 years as a cook for the Shiocton school system until her retirement in 1984. Erna was also a volunteer for Outagamie County Social Services for 12 years.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer, and their children: David (Barb) Warning, Shiocton and Wendy (Brian) Murphy, Shiocton; five grandchildren: A.J. (Diane) Adams, Hortonville; Benjamin (Laura) Warning, Gillett; Angela (Mike) Schneiderwend, Kaukauna; Peter Warning, Shiocton; Jacob Ratsch, Boyton Beach, FL; one great grandchild, Cole Adams; a sister Agnes Brownson, three sister in-laws: Dorothy Van Straten, Lilas Van Straten and Nona Van Straten, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Erna was preceded in death by her seven sisters: Anna (Harry) Lettman, Francis (Willard) Last, Martha, Grace (Mike) Miller, Marie (Claire) Poole, Sister Lurana VanStraten, and Carmen (William) Lucht; five brothers: Aloysius (Cecelia), Henry (Agnes) Glen and first wife Caroline, Robert and Clark; by her father and mother in-law Edward (LuluBell) Warning; brother and sisters- in-law: Helen (Edward) Mueller, Mildred (Henry) Stolzman and Lester (Dorothy) Warning.
Erna was always filled with child-like games, pranks, songs and poems that made everyone smile. She loved children and had a special place in her heart for Debbie and Jeff Johnson who she cared for in her home for many years while their parents Dick and Helen taught school. Jeff and Debbie were like members of the family and still visit Erna and Elmer regularly.
Funeral Mass for Erna will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton with Fr. Gilbert Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Obituary:
Shiocton - Age 91, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Good Shepard Home in Seymour. He was born in the Town of Bovina on the family farm, son of the late Henry and Rose (Dollar) Van Straten. Roy graduated from Shiocton High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He lived and farmed near Shiocton until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton. Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing and trips to the casino.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Harold (Marcella); Dale (Phyllis) (Lorraine); Lloyd (Marion); Raymond (Lillian); two sisters, Frances "Tootie" Van Straten and Margaret (Bobbie) Gill.
Mass of Christian Burial for Roy will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton, Fr. Richard Allen and Deacon Ken Bilgrien will co-officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, full Military Rites will be held.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home staff and the Hospice staff for the care they gave to Roy.
We want to thank Uncle Roy for being such an amazing person in our lives.

Bernardus Linders daughter Joh anna, apparently made the journey in 1867, with her husband Johannes VanVo nderen & 3 small children. BURIAL: I am sure that if (as I suspect) Francis is the daughter of my Cat herine Hermans & Bernard DeGroot that she is buried in the DeGroot Fami ly Plot of Bernard DeGroot, located in Evergreen Cemetery, Wausaukee, W I. There is no marker for Francis in Evergreen Cemetery and unless she h as been recently added, there is no record of Francis being buried ther e. What I do have are other records & some sound logic.

Francis was born on July 28, 1916. She was the last child born to Catherine and Bernard. She had a brother, named Christian, and two sisters named, Cecilia and Helen. Helen became Sister Avita of the Dominican Order. There are no other descendants from the union of Catherine and Bernard DeGroot. Francis also had five brothers and sisters through Bernard's previous marriage. They were as follows: Johanna Carolina, known as Caroline, Henry, also called Hank, Theodore Carl , known as C arl , Petronella, who was called Nell and William. Their mother was Christina, sister to Catherine, who was born November 12, 1866 and passed from this life on July 29, 1901. Francis' parents, Bernard and Catherine, were married on February 23, 1903 in Wausaukee, Wisconsin. Catherine was born on January 5, 1881 in DePere, Wisconsin. She passed from this life on January 2, 1946. Bernard, whose formal name was Bernardus, was born on September 28, 1869 in DePere, Wisconsin. He was also called Barney. He passed from this life on January 10, 1917. Catherine and Bernard rest together in peace at Evergreen Cemetery, Wausaukee, Wisconsin. While Francis was born in the United States of America, all four of her grandparents were born in the Netherlands of Europe. They were Jacoba Jacobs who was married with Carl Hermans and Petronella Verstraten who was married with Hen r i cus DeGroot, also known as Henry. 1917 was a most difficult year for Catherine, who returned both her husband and her daughter to the LORD in that year. Francis DeGroot was laid to rest with her father and passed into Heaven on March 4, 1917.

Louis (Louie) DeGroot, 83, passed away on June 6, 2010, in Sun City, Ariz. He was laid to eternal rest on June 10, 2010, in Mesa, Ariz., after a funeral service on June 9, in Sun City West, Ariz.
Louis was born on Sept. 21, 1926, in Wausaukee, Wis., to Cornelius and Elizabeth DeGroot. He lived there 15 years until he moved to Oconto, to live with his brother. He had a total of 11 brothers and sisters. He was in the U.S. Navy and also attended St. Norbert College in De Pere, where he received his degree in Economics in 1949.
Louie married Elizabeth (Bette) Ellis in 1949. They have five children, Nona Gleason, Waukesha; Jeff DeGroot, Green Bay; Bob DeGroot, Green Bay; Janine (Mark) Beauchaine, Iola; Lisa (Brad) Collar, Shiocton. Louie's grandchildren are, Danielle (Larry) Smith, Waukesha; Denise (Rob) Hellman, Waukesha; Adam Collar, Appleton; Craig Collar, Shiocton; Shawn Beauchaine, Madison; Marisa Beauchaine, Milwaukee; Dan Beauchaine, Eau Claire. His great-grandchildren are Parker, Cambelle, and Tanner Hellman, Waukesha; and Kenna and Kayla Smith, Waukesha.
Louie was preceded in death by his wife, Bette in 2006; his parents; his sisters, Martha Kersten, Agnes DeGroot, Irene DeGroot, Eleanor DeGroot; his brothers, Art DeGroot, Clarence DeGroot, Andrew DeGroot, Leonard DeGroot, Bernard DeGroot, and Donald DeGroot. He is survived by one sister, Rosanne Pantuso, Marinette; several sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews; and his wife of three years, Sylvia Burkholder, Arizona.
Louie retired from State Farm Insurance in 1988, after living in Green Bay since 1970. He enjoyed golfing, boating, dancing, playing cards including bridge, the Packers, traveling, and having fun.
Memorial service in celebration of Louie's life will be Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Bernard's Catholic Parish in Green Bay, with Father Ron Belitz officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Mass at 11 a.m., and luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be forwarded to St. Norbert's College in De Pere.

Neil L. Van Straten, 86, Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012. He was born July 3, 1926, in De Pere to Ernest and Bertha (Vander Heiden) Van Straten. On Aug. 28, 1947, Neil was united in marriage to Joyce H. Letter at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay. They enjoyed more than 63 years together. Joyce preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2010. He was employed by James River (now Georgia Pacific) for 42 years as an elevator repairman. He retired in 1988. Neil was an active member of St. Joseph Parish where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as an usher for more than 49 years. He also assisted in starting the Athletic Club and coached football. Neil was an avid Packers fan and was a season ticket holder since 1947.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Sally Van Straten, Sturgeon Bay; two daughters, Nancy Van Straten and Gary Parpovich, Sobieski; Shari Van Straten, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Ben (Shannon) Van Straten, Jacob Van Straten, Joshua (Monica) De Silvey, Sarina (Brian) Baker; six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Daniel, Miles, Lexi, and Jackson; his canine companion, Duke; two sisters, LaVern George, Jeanne Hermes; two brothers-in-law, Dan Duben, Jim (Bernice) Letter; a sister-in-law, Gladys Sigl.

Coletta Agnes Heagle, Seymour, age 87, passed away Tuesday evening, March 6, 2007, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour. She was born July 1, 1919, in DePere, the daughter of the late Aloysius and Esther (Van Straten-Storma) DeCleene. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in DePere. On October 1, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harold Pingel, in the town of Cicero. He preceded her in death one year later on December 25, 1938. On November 23, 1940, she married Edward Heagle; they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Edward passed away on December 3, 1995. Coletta was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Seymour, where she belonged to the St. John's Christian Women's Society. She worked at Outagamie Producers Cheese Plant in Black Creek and cooked for 14 years at the Seymour High School. Coletta was also a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, bowling, traveling, dancing, playing cards, doing crafts and she especially loved spending time with her family and grandkids. De Cleene, Sister Cheryl
Sister Cheryl De Cleene, age 77, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Thursday morning, September 27, 2012 at Holy Family Convent.
The former Ethel Mae De Cleene was born on April 20, 1935 in Greenleaf, daughter of the late Ellsworth and Ludimilla (Kabat) De Cleene. She entered the Convent in 1952 and professed her vows in 1954. Sister Cheryl earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc. Sister Cheryl served as a teacher at St. Paul, Manitowoc, St. John, Antigo, St. Joseph, Rice Lake, St. Joseph, Waukesha, all of Wisconsin; Holy Name, Escanaba, St. Francis de Sales, Manistique, Michigan and St. Francis of Assisi, Yuma, Arizona. She also served as Directress of Postulants and Temporary Professed at the Motherhouse, Local Director and Secretarial Aide at St. Peter the Fisherman, Two Rivers and a volunteer at St. Paul Elder Services, Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three brothers and five sisters-in-law: Francis and Laverne De Cleene, DePere, Joe & Patty De Cleene, Don & Sherrie De Cleene, all of Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, Lynn De Cleene and Gloria Kennedy, both of Greenleaf; and six sisters and four brothers-in-law: Delores Blackowicz, McHenry, Illinois, Elaine & Dick Young, Mary & Bob Young, Caroline Nooyen, Rose & Paul Vandervest, all of Green Bay and Donna & Joe Martzahl, Greenleaf. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2012 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Father Placid Stroik, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Bernard J. De Cleene, age 62, of Greenleaf, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. He was born in Green Bay on January 14, 1950 the son of the late Al and Milly (Kabat) De Cleene. On May 6, 1972 he married his wife of 39 years, Lynn Reedy. Bernie proudly served in the National Guard for 14 years. He was employed with The Boldt Company for many years, starting as a bricklayer for 20 years and later became a design draftsman. Bernie was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Greenleaf, and was very involved in the choir. He loved to spend time with his family, especially while camping, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be remembered for his kind and loving heart. Bernie got along with everyone and did not have an enemy.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Lynn: children: Millie (Troy) Hartl of Kaukauna, Renee (Keith) Brown of Kimberly and Scott (Nicki Mueller) De Cleene of Madison; grandchildren: McKaela, Elyssa, Benjamin and Maia Hartl; brothers and sisters: Delores Blackowicz, Elaine (Dick) Young, Sr. M. The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2218 Day St., Greenleaf, with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Mary Ellen Cornelissen, 70, Greenleaf, passed away peacefully early Monday morning at home with family present after a year long battle with cancer. She was born September 2, 1939 in Green Bay, a daughter of the late Marcus and Margaret (DeCleene) Leick. On September 2, 1963 she married Jack Cornelissen.
Mary Ellen was a selfless person and considered the "rock" of her family. She found the good in everyone. She was a shoulder to lean on and a friend to all. She was a faithful member of St Clare Catholic Church - St. Mary site; she enjoyed fishing, gardening, baking especially with her grandchildren, going to the grandchildren's sporting events, and spending time with her family and friends. Mary Ellen loved to travel with Jack, especially to Florida where she leaves behind many family and friends. Mary Ellen was also an active member of the Greenleaf/ Wrightstown Optimist Club with which she lived out her life through the Optimist Creed. She worked at June Zimonick Studio and was a caregiver for June and Bob for many years.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband Jack; children Joleen (Scott) Gosha, Darren (Donna) Cornelissen, Corey Cornelissen, Nicole (Bob) Hoffmann, and Shawn (Mary Beth) Cornelissen; ten grandchildren: Tyler, Travis, Ryan, Austin, Paige, Kearstin Cornelissen, Isaac, Olivia, and Evan Hoffmann, and Nathan Gosha. Ruby Pearl Minlschmidt, age 87, of Black Creek, passed away Monday morning, May 23, 2011, at her home. She was born September 18, 1923, daughter of the late Willard and Frances (Van Straten) Last. On September 23, 1941, she was united in marriage to Floyd Minlschmidt. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Ruby graduated from Shiocton High School Class of 1941. Ruby's father called her his "Little Gem." She was a faithful and active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Black Creek. She worked many years at the Black Creek School as a cook and loved time spent with her children and grandchildren.

WEST BRANCH, Iowa - Willard "Bill" Francis Last, 78, formerly of Muscatine, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation, West Branch, after an extended illness.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at St. Mathias Church. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Casket bearers are Sam and Aaron Last, Mike Reeves, Dennis Janssen, Jack Lamm and Fred Wookey. Honorary casket bearers are Paul Bermel, Paul Schumacher and Sean Last. Mr. Last was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Black Creek, Wis., the son of Willard F. and Frances Van Straten Last. He married Helen Elizabeth Jochman June 16, 1948, in Appleton, Wis. She preceded him in death in 1994.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a master's degree in microbiology.
He was a member of St. Mathias Church, the Knights of Columbus, was a past grand knight, and a member of the 4th degree. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge No. 388.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the great outdoors.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a regional governor in Korea after World War II and prior to the Korean War.
He worked as a superintendent of Quality Control at Grain Processing Corp., retiring after 37 years of service. He was instrumental in starting Quality Control and the fermentation plant.
Survivors include a two sons, Michael Last and wife Kathy of West Liberty and Mark Last of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Shasta, Eric, Sam, Sean, Aaron and Hunter Last, and Stephanie Reeves; two sisters, Ruby Minlschmidt and Ethel Diermeier and husband Clarence, all of Black Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a son, Matthew J. Last in 1991.

Gerald A. "Gug" VanStraten, age 87 of Shiocton, died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Gerald was born in Shiocton on June 1, 1928, the son of Aloysious and Cecilia (Dietzler) VanStraten. On October 12, 1955, he married Arlene Ellis at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stephensville, WI. Gerald owned and operated VanStraten Oil in Shiocton for 55 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing making 55 trips to Canada.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Arlene; children, Randy VanStraten, Diane Seidler, Wayne (Diana) VanStraten, Doug (Sue) VanStraten and Jennifer (Marvin) Garrison; grandchildren, Annette (fiancé Justin) Priesler, Theodore VanStraten, Matthew and Brian Powers, Jackson VanStraten, Shawn and Vanessa Young, Leah (Brian) Kern, Kimberly (Corey) Huettl, Tanner (Chelsey) Tate, Kylie (George) Faskell, and Ashley, Shannon, and Lauren Dillard; and 11 great-grandchildren. Leonard J. "Lenny" Van Straten, age 73, of Shiocton, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, due to complications of pneumonia, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay. Leonard was born on April 14, 1934, in Shiocton, son of the late Aloysius and Cecilia (Dietzler) Van Straten. He attended Shiocton schools and worked on the family farm. He helped with the cabbage, the apple orchard, and took care of the leaves in the yard. After his dad died he went to work at the Sheltered Workshop in Appleton, where he enjoyed his work on an assembly line. Leonard was a lifetime member of St. Denis Church in Shiocton. He enjoyed watching ball games and going for walks.

Shiocton - Alice Ann Van Straten, age 77, of Shiocton, died on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, the result of declining health. Alice was a "special" daughter, born on February 8, 1941, to Aloysius and Cecilia (Dietzler) Van Straten.
Alice spent most of her life living in Shiocton. She was a lifetime member of St. Denis Catholic Church. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Shiocton Senior Citizens. Alice had attended Shiocton public schools, and as an adult was recognized as "Fan of the Year", rarely missing any school functions, or those of her church or community. She worked at Valley Packaging Industries for many years; retiring only when she became ill a couple of years ago.
Alice was a gentle soul, kind and loving. She cared about her family and friends, and was always glad to see them. Alice liked to watch TV, do puzzle books, and to color. She loved to go downtown for a soda, go for rides to see the cabbage and the deer in the fields. And she really liked McDonald's strawberry shakes. Alice was a happy person; she loved life.
Alice is survived by her brothers, Roger Van Straten, Russell Van Straten, Carl (Linda) Van Straten, and Daniel (Ervida) Van Straten, her sisters, Karen Van Straten and Mary (Robert) Van Kirk, many other relatives and friends.

Ronald C. Poole, age 77, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 13, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on December 18, 1933, in Greenville, WI, son of Clair and Marie (VanStraten) Poole. He resided in Hortonville, WI with his wife of 54 years.
Ronald was an honor graduate, top of his class, of Army radio operator school. He was proud of serving in the US military from March 1954 to March 1956.
On May 18, 1957, he married Janice Ratzburg at Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church, where they remained lifelong members. Of particular pride to him was his evangelism ministry at Bethlehem.
He retired from Hillshire Farm in 1995 after 30 years of employment.

Michael L. Van Straten, age 78, Shiocton, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was born on October 7, 1939, in New London son of the late Lloyd and Marion (Lutz) Van Straten. He served his country in the US ARMY. On July 29, 1969, he married Sheryl Rusch in Shiocton. Mike was a self employed excavator; he started his business in 1967, Mike Van Straten Excavating retiring in 2007. Mike logged in the winters, did farm work and drove milk truck. He loved hunting, fishing, John Deere Tractors and going to the cabin in Mercer. He was extremely close to his grandkids and enjoyed attending their various sporting events. He loved people and especially going to breakfast with his buddies.
Mike is survived by his wife Sheryl; sons, Barry Van Straten (special friend Lynn), Shiocton and Bart (Amanda) Van Straten, Clintonville; five grandchildren: Christopher (Renee), Arianna, Sterling, Lauren, and Dillon; a brother Paul Van Straten, Clintonville; sisters: Sr. Elizabeth "Betty" Van Straten, (Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph), Chicago, IL and Nancy (Steve) Rettler, Black Creek. William "Butch" Van Straten, Shiocton, age 70, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012, as a result of cardiac complications from pancreatic cancer. Bill was born April 8, 1942, in New London, the son of the late Dale and Phyllis (Fries) Van Straten. He graduated from Shiocton High School before serving his country in the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart for his heroics. On May 24, 1969, Bill married Cheryl Schroeder. He was employed at Terra Chemicals International. He was a member of the American Legion Post #512 and a lifelong member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton. Bill enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, the Brewers, Timber Rattlers, and Packers, but most of all spending time with his 3 grandsons.

Evelyn Dolan, of Kaukauna, passed away February 7, 2014, after 92 amazing years. Her family was at her side to comfort her two days after she suffered a stroke. Ev was born in Wausaukee, WI on December 16, 1921 to Nellie and James DeGroot. Her family eventually moved to Kimberly and then Little Chute where Ev graduated from St John's High School. After graduation she worked for a time at a law office and Kimberly Clark.
On February 12, 1942, Ev married Jack Dolan (who preceded her in death in 1986). For the next 27 years she was Jack's partner in hard work at the family farm on Farrell Rd. There she raised and nurtured 7 children along with milking, field work, housekeeping, constant cooking, and managing finances--a true multi-tasker. Yet she still found time for the Honeycomb Homemakers' Club, leading the Nitengale 4-H Club, vegetable gardening, and remodeling the old farmhouse. She was a great cook who took pride in her delicious baked goods and putting on elaborate feasts for company and work crews.
In 1969 the farm was sold and Ev moved to Desnoyer St. in Kaukauna. She began a new career as photo finisher/inspector at Pechman Studios. Eventually she found the strength to carve a new life and home for herself as an independent woman and single parent.
After retiring in 1987, Ev finally found time for enjoying new adventures, hobbies, and her grandchildren. She travelled the country from New England to California to Disney World. She took up golf, bowling, birdwatching and card playing--staying fit with regular swim exercise & walking. She volunteered for everything, from the Food Pantry to being a poll worker. When taking care of her house became too much like the old farm chores, Ev became one of the very first residents at Canal Place Senior Housing. There she led an active social life with an open door policy among her close friends & confidants, playing cards and enjoying life on the Fox River. After she could no longer drive herself, she liked nothing better than going with friends and family for a quick "bite to eat" and drives through the countryside.
Throughout her long life, Ev was totally devoted to her faith. She was an active member of Holy Cross Church for over 70 years, sang in the Church choir, helped prepare countless Church luncheons and was Treasurer of the Ladies of Holy Cross. She attended Mass regularly until the past few months, but continued her daily prayers and reflections to her last day.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jack & his parents, daughter Mary (VanderHeiden) Skop, and son Mike Dolan. Also her sisters Eunice DeGroot, Gerry Berg & her husband Carl, brother Clayton DeGroot & his wife Jeanette, son-in-law Ron Granger, and brother-in-law Jerome Berg.
Surviving Ev are her children & their spouses James (Donna) Dolan, Colleen Granger, Dennis (Trudy) Dolan, Tom (Patti) Dolan, Tim (Wanda) Dolan and Daughter-in -law Carla Dolan. Also her dear sisters, Leone Berg and Helen DeGroot and her Grandchildren, Brian (Maureen) Granger, Kelly (Paul) Wenzel, Scott VanderHeiden, Chris (Andrew) Utrie, Michelle (Bob) Holloway, Kerry (John) Wolcott, Joe (Marie)Vandenberg, Derek (January) Dolan, Katie Eickermann, Matthew (Krista) Dolan, Tyler Dolan, Brandon Dolan and Trevor Dolan--along with 14 Great Grandchildren and many dear nieces & nephews--and Jean VanderHeiden who visited Grandma so often.

Clayton DeGroot, 85, of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012. Clayton was born on June 14, 1927 in Wausaukee, to James and Nellie DeGroot. He served in the Army Air corps during WWII. On February 14, 1950 he married Jeanette Pilon in Niagara. Clayton worked at Kimberly Clark for 40 years until his retirement. He was an avid camper for over 50 years and built his first two campers. Clayton and his wife Jeanette enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, spending their winters after retirement in the south. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and he enjoyed spending time with them, that time will always be treasured. Clayton was very inventive and his mind never stopped working, even in his later years, the inventions just got smaller. His work will be remembered in all of his children and grandchildren's houses. Clayton was a charter member of St. Thomas More.
Clayton is survived by his children: Steve (Donna) DeGroot, Gillett; Jill Karras, Seattle, WA; Glen (Dana) DeGroot, Greenville; Elaine (Jeff) Zak, Appleton; Paul (Norma) DeGroot, Appleton and Patrick (Suzy) DeGroot, Shiocton; grandchildren: Jesse (Tracy) Karras; Michelle and Shawn Zak; Lindsay and Michael DeGroot; Eric DeGroot Schreiter; a great grandchild, Wilson Zak Garrity; sister: Evelyn Dolan, Kaukauna; Leone Berg, Appleton, and Helen DeGroot, Appleton and a brother-in-law: Carlton Berg, Town of Menasha. Clayton is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanette in 2008, and two sisters; Eunice DeGroot and Geraldine DeGroot Berg.
The memorial service for Clayton will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:30 AM with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating at the STAR OF HOPE CHAPEL, at Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N. Richmond St. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the cemetery chapel.

John G. DeGroot, 67, Gladstone, Mich., formerly of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Oct. 4, 2007. He was born July 10, 1940, to the late Ray and Josephine (Beemster) DeGroot. He was a 1958 graduate of Premontre High School and attended St. Norbert College. He joined the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged after four years of service, with the rank of Corporal. He was joined in marriage with the former Della DeKeyser on Nov. 28, 1964, at St. Joseph Church in Champion. The couple would have celebrated 43 years of marriage in November. He was employed by IBM for 38 years, retiring in 2002. John devoted his life to family and friends. He enjoyed being involved in mission work in Honduras, Central America and spending time at the hunting camp in Amberg, Wis. Most importantly, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Della; four children, Jerry (Dawn), Amberg, Jay (Jean), Tracy (Dave) Bricker, Kelly Jo DeGroot (Greg Hafeman), all of Green Bay; nine grandchildren, Melissa DeGroot (Brian Watermolen), Heather, Kellie, Josh, Derek, Dani, Caitlyn, Gracie, and Brian; and one great-grandchild, Peyton. He is also survived by five brothers, Fr. Ken, Tom (Eleanor), Green Bay; Bill (Trudy), Florence; Fred (Elaine), Green Bay; Mike (Judy), Oneida; and one sister-in-law Darlene DeGroot, Green Bay.

Joyce A. Kersten, 72, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. She was born on Jan. 5, 1938, in Neenah, daughter of the late Francis and Martha (DeGroot) Kersten. Joyce worked at Work Adjustments in Neenah for many years.
She was also an avid bowler and was involved with Special Olympics. Joyce liked to follow sports, especially the Roncalli Jets, when her twin brother, Jim, was the coach. She lived in group homes in Menasha and Oshkosh before moving to Park View in 2007.

She was born on October 17, 1959, in Fond du Lac, daughter of the late Louis and Bette (Ellis) DeGroot. On January 22, 1984, Lisa was united in marriage to Bradley J. Collar. She worked at Hillshire Farms in New London for 28 years. Lisa was a huge Packer fan and enjoyed being with her group of friends in Seymour.

Seymour - Harold J. Pingel, 79, of Seymour passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, surrounded by his family.
He was born November 26, 1938, son of the late Harold O. Pingel and Coletta (De Cleene) Pingel Heagle.
Following graduation from Seymour High School he served in the US Army. He was a member of the Seymour American Legion Post #106.
Harold married the love of his life, Dolores Banker, on June 2, 1962 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Black Creek. He has been a member of St. John Catholic Church in Seymour for many years.
At the age of 17 he began working at Gustman's in Seymour. He later became the general manager for 31 years, retiring in 2000 following a 43 year career. Following retirement Harold decided to run for Mayor of the City of Seymour, having won the election and serving in that role for six years.
Harold was a steward of the community and was passionate about serving others. In various capacities he served: Kiwanis, Crystal Springs Golf Course, Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Corporation, Seymour Alternative High School, Outagamie County Fair, and many other organization. Good Shepherd was Harold's most important organization, and he served on the Board of Directors for many years and had chaired the Lights of Love Gala along with Dolores.
Harold enjoyed being active and spent a lot of his time outdoors. He loved to go fishing, boating, swimming, and water skiing with friends and family. Hunting, fishing, gardening, and keeping his lawn in perfect shape were some of his favorite hobbies. Harold could also fix anything and would lend a hand whenever needed.
More than anything, Harold cherished the time spent with his wife, children, and the grandchildren. He had traveled with Dolores to many states and they enjoyed the winters in Florida.
Harold is survived by his wife Dolores; children: Keith (Michele) Pingel, Karen (Craig) Lampe, Sherry (Jon) Bednarski, Lynn (John) Dable, and Steven (Lisa) Pingel; grandchildren: Logan and Luke Pingel, Jeremy and Emily Lampe, Jason and Justin Bednarski, Brandon and Haley Dable, Jordyn and Trevor Pingel. Further survived by his brothers: Earl Heagle, Dale (Chris) Heagle, Dennis Heagle, and David Heagle; in-laws: Robert (Connie) Banker, Dorothy Thomas, Darvin Thomas, Janet (Dick) Rathsack, Sharon (Gene) Patzner, and Stan Jr. (Linda) Banker.
In addition to his parents, Harold and Coletta, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Edward Heagle; brothers: Robert Heagle and Jeff Heagle; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Stanley and Viola Banker; sisters-in-law, Grace (Dennis) Tierney and Marion Banker; brother-in-law, John Banker.

Jonathan "Jon" DeCleene, 23, Greenleaf, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 20, 1984, in Green Bay, to Gloria (Haen) DeCleene and the late Howard DeCleene. Jonathan attended St. Mary's Grade School in Greenleaf and graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Class of 2002. He was a student at Michigan Tech University in Houghton majoring in chemical engineering, and was a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was known for his great sense of humor, and his vast knowledge and appreciation of history, especially military history. His hobbies included video games, Tom Clancy books and good action movies. Jonathan will miss his Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers and spoke well of the camaraderie and fun of Winter Carnival.

Vannessa (Verkuilen) DeSantos, of Appleton, age 44, passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with GIST cancer. She was born on September 23, 1969 to Rose Ann (Van Straten) Verkuilen and the late Gerald Verkuilen. On November 20, 1990 she married Gilbert DeSantos, and together they had two daughters, she was a wonderful wife and treasured her daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her family, she loved playing cards, going to the cottage and dancing. Vannessa's strength, selflessness and kindheartedness to all she knew will be greatly missed.

De Santos, her best friend who was a sister to her, Jessica (Travis) Haufschildt, her brothers and sisters in law; Natalie (Johny) Vasquez, Nick, Robert, Julie and Joe De Santos, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, especially Julie and Bridget who supported her through out her whole life.
Vannessa is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Verkuilen and her grandparents; Robert and Dorothy (Johnson) Van Straten and Henry and Ethel (Belling) Verkuilen, mother in law, Elvira Perez De Santos and Aunt Agnes (Van Straten) Sasse.
Memorial services for Vannessa will be held at 6:00PM on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St Appleton with the Rev. Landon Churchill officiating. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00PM until the time of service.
Special Thank You to Doctor William Guenther and associates, who treated her illness from the age of 18 and then again when she developed GIST at the age of 30.
