Jacob was a lifelong resident of Appleton where he was a farmer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of St Thomas More Parish.

    Lorraine Ann Grishaber, age 90, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at St. Joseph Residence in New London. Lorraine was born in Appleton on April 8, 1925. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick J. and Esther M. (Holzschuh) Schaefer and her loving husband of 39 years, Ervin J. Grishaber. Lorraine worked as a secretary for 20 years at The Institute of Paper Chemistry, retiring in 1963 when she became a full time mom. She was an active member at St. Bernadette Catholic Church and sang in the church choir for many years. Lorraine was devoted to God and His church, her family and many friends, and her team - the Green Bay Packers.
    Lorraine will be missed by her two daughters: Christine A. Grishaber, Clintonville and Margaret A. (Scott) Olson, Marshfield; grandson, Josh; and her brother Norbert E. (Joan) Schaefer, Appleton. She was further survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she cared for as if they were her own.
    A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 15, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes, Appleton, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends and relatives may visit at the church on Tuesday from 2:30 pm until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph Residence for the compassionate care given to Lorraine.

    Patricia Louise Flanagan Baisch, age 85, Kaukauna, passed peacefully on August 2, 2010 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. She was born in Appleton on June 22, 1925, the daughter of Matthias and Anna (Vandenberg) Schaefer. Patricia graduated from Appleton West High School. She worked for Wisconsin Telephone Company as a service representative prior to marrying David J. Flanagan on August 28, 1948. They enjoyed twenty-four years of marriage, until his sudden death in 1972.
    In addition to caring for her six children, Patricia worked for the Kaukauna Community Hospital as a Medical Records Librarian for twenty-four years, after receiving certification from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Nineteen years after David's death, Patricia married Stephen J. Baisch on February 10, 1990 and enjoyed twenty years of marriage together.
    Patricia is survived by her husband: Stephen Baisch, Kaukauna; five children: Michael (Vivian) Flanagan, Wrightstown; Kathy (Tom) Kilmartin, Newburgh, Indiana; Patty (Joe) Berghuis, Kaukauna; Dennis (Stephanie) Flanagan, Farmington, Maine and Dan Flanagan, Eagle River; eight grandchildren: Garret Flanagan; Matt, Mark and Katie Berghuis; Molly, Abigail and Ryan Flanagan; and Max Flanagan; two step-children: Jim (Karen) Baisch and Dr. Tim (Liz) Baisch; eight step-grandchildren: Rachel, Stephanie, Ryan, Joe, Stephen and Stephen Michael, Eric and Alicia; five step-great grandchildren and a half-sister: Colleen Rumble, Hanahan, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law: Betty Flanagan and Tess (Tom)Roberts.     Mathias Robert Schaefer, age 68, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009. He was born in Appleton on December 19, 1940, the son of the late Mathias Schaefer II and Lucille (Newland) Schaefer. After high school, Matt enlisted in the Army and served his country honorably in Germany. When Matt returned home, he worked for his family at Schaefer Dairy in Appleton for several years before becoming a self- employed milk distributor. On November 30, 1963, he married the love of his life, Ginny Esther. She precedes him in death. He then worked as a sales representative for Perfection Frames and Glass until his retirement in 1998. As a kid, Matt loved to spend time fishing at his family's cottage on Pelican Lake. Many years later, he and Ginny bought a cottage on Shawano Lake and spent most weekends there. Matt enjoyed playing cribbage, sheep head and poker. He was known for being a jokester and for his wonderful sense of humor. In 1985, Matt and Ginny moved to Lake Butte des Morts in Oshkosh where they enjoyed being outdoors. He was also a dedicated father and grandfather, who loved being married to his soul mate, Ginny.
    Matt is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Adam) Schaefer Kemps, Menasha; grandchildren: Mathias Tyler Schaefer Kemps and Hope Ginger Schaefer Kemps and sisters: Colleen Rumble and Patricia Baisch.
    Matt was preceded in death by his son, Mathias Schaefer and sisters: Nivard S.S.N.D., Ann Long and Sharon Rupple.

    Joan C. Sprangers, age 85, of Appleton, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Colony Oaks Care Center after a two year battle with Alzheimer's. Joan was born in Appleton on November 26, 1924, to the late Joseph and Clara (Last) Schaefer. On September 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leo A. Sprangers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton. The couple enjoyed 62 years together. She worked as a cook for many years at Colony Oaks Care Center and also at Lawrence College.
    Joan had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories and sharing jokes. She also enjoyed knitting, golf, craft sales, the Packers, and playing cards - especially solitaire and sheepshead. She could always be depended on to pray for someone in need, all you had to do was call. Her religion meant a lot to her and she was a long standing member at St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
    She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Leo Sprangers, Appleton; four daughters: Mary (Duane) Dunsirn, Waupaca; Jean (Tim) Pontow, Appleton; Barb (Lee) Brockman, Appleton; and Lori (Dean) Knutson, Appleton; two sons: Michael Sprangers, Waupaca; and Robin (Melissa) Sprangers, Menasha; daughter-in-law, Susan Sprangers, Menasha; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gerald (Dolores) Schaefer, Appleton; and Joseph (Vivian) Schaefer, Kimberly; two sisters: Rita (Cal) Oldham, Rhinelander; and Rosann (Maynard) Romenesko, Combined Locks.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Mark, and a grandson Justin.
    A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 12, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, with the Rev. Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
    The last two years of mom's illness has brought our family very close. We enjoyed all the visits talking with her and all the residents at Colony Oaks. We want to thank all the staff at Colony Oaks for giving her so much love and care, especially her roommate Alvina - who was her "guardian angel."

    Mark S. Sprangers, age 50, of Menasha, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at his residence. Mark was born on December 1, 1956, in Appleton, the son of Leo and Joan (Schaefer) Sprangers. On December 3, 1982, Mark married Susan Much at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Neenah. Mark enjoyed hiking at High Cliff, loved to cook out. He also enjoyed watching football, stand-up comedy, movies, listening to music, playing cards and playing on the computer. Mark was extremely proud of his family.
    He is survived by his loving wife Susan; a son, Justin; his kitty, Jelly Bean; parents, Leo and Joan Sprangers.     Obituary:
    Justin Mark Sprangers, Menasha, age 26, died from injuries resulting from a car accident on November 24, 2009. Justin was born on May 3, 1983, son of Susan K. (Much) Sprangers and the late Mark Steven Sprangers. Justin was a graduate of Menasha High School in 2002. He was a student at Fox Valley Technical College and was employed with Tidi Products of Neenah. Justin loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved to be with family and friends and particularly enjoyed clowning with his cuz Ralphy. Justin loved his Nissan 350Z and was a member of the ZCrew of Wisconsin and Chicago Z. He was a great sports enthusiast and enjoyed comedy, music and playing cards.
    Survivors include his mother, Susan Sprangers, Menasha; his girlfriend, Jessica Mollen, Kaukauna; grandparents: Leo and Joan Sprangers, Appleton; Dorothy Engblom, Menasha; Ron and Jan Much, Little Chute. Justin is further survived by aunts: Mary (Duane) Dunsirn, Jean (Timothy) Pontow, Barb (Lee) Brockman, Lori (Dean) Knutson; uncles: Michael Sprangers, Rob (Melisa) Sprangers; aunts: Tammy Bieberstein, DeeAnna (John) Lichtenberg, Nicole (Ralph) Schultz, Lisa (Robert) Kober, Renee (Todd) Golden, Skeeter (Mark) Abrahamson; uncles: Brian (Ann) Much, and Josh Much. Justin was blessed with many, many cousins who will love and miss him forever.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Steven Sprangers; uncle, Hans Bieberstein; and step-grandfather, David Engblom.
    The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009, at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 p.m. until the hour of service. A memorial is being established in his name.
    Our deepest gratitude to the extremely kind hearted loving angel, Amber Schroeder, for your assistance at the scene of the accident. God Bless you for so lovingly helping Justin and his best friend, Adam Weston, enter the afterlife so peacefully. Your tremendously loving heart shall never be forgotten.
