    Obituary:
Mary Rose Keefe, age, 77, passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at Colony Oaks Care Center in Appleton. She was born September 12, 1929, to the late Walter and Catherine (Halloran) Kohl in Appleton. In the summer of 1949, Mary met her future husband in the stands at Goodland field watching him play third base for the Appleton Papermakers. On July 8, 1953, Mary married Al Keefe in Appleton. Mary worked as a secretary for many years at Doctor's Park and also at Milwaukee Insurance before deciding to be a full-time mom. She enjoyed going to craft shows, bus trips, shopping and going to lunch with her sisters and her very best friends, Karen Hermans, Evie Kohl, Jean Dethardt, "Cordy" Dolores Couillard and Bob (Joyce) Van Fossen. She volunteered at the Salvation Army, St. Joe's Food Pantry and St. Pius Parish where she and Al were members for 46 years. Mary loved the Packers, Door County, trips up north canoeing and long Sunday car rides around the lake. She loved planting flowers in her garden on quiet little Clark St. In her younger years, she enjoyed taking a large number of neighborhood children to Erb and Plamann Parks to swim and because there were so many children, they were able to form their own sports teams to play ball in the street. One adventure in Mary's life was her three-week trip to Ireland with her three sisters and a trip to Cuba before Castro took over. Mary was also very fond of Jason Reimer, who was practically raised by herself and Al. Her biggest achievement was when she became a grandmother at the age of 69, then again at 73.
Mary is survived by her husband Al; daughter, Kelly (Paul Stiltjes) Keefe; a son, Kevin Julie) Keefe; grandchildren, Makayla and Brady Keefe; sisters, Rita (Don) Froelich and Carol Mauthe; a brother, Kenneth (Virginia) Kohl; sisters-in-law, Betty Kohl and Evelyn Kohl; an "adoptive" son, Jason Reimer and his family; and many other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret "Mugzie" (Bob) Vander Velden; brothers: Clinton (Mabel) Kohl, Eddie, LaVerne"Bunn" and James Kohl; brother-in-law, Norbert Mauthe; and nephews, Buzzie Kohl and Jug Vander Velden.
A Funeral Mass for Mary will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Thursday, June 28, 2007, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at Valley Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Thursday at 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

    Obituary:
VanderVelden, Daniel, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton following a brief battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 29, 1942 in Appleton to the late Robert and Margaret 'Mugsy' (Kohl) Vander Velden. He worked at Erickson's Gas Station and for the now Sonoco Paper Company for almost 40 years. Biff married Susan Neuenfeldt on Aug 28, 1982 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
If you've read this far in, you've probably crossed paths with Biff and after just one conversation you felt compelled to stay near. He was just that kind of guy. He entertained you with his stories and he was genuinely interested in hearing yours. We'll all remember his true friendship, warm welcome, and a sh*t eating grin to signal that mischief was not far away.
Often the center point of our family, it was Biff who knew where someone had moved to or what was happening on the other side of the relation. He enjoyed sharing time with those who needed a visit or a Sunday drive, or maybe just an ice cream.
Biff was never separated from his Honda for long. Autumn rides in the wind, winter rides in Florida, springtime rides in the rain and summertime rides in absolutely anything - it was all good for Biff. He would ride with Susan or with Jack, or with a long list of his biker buddies. Warm days of high speed freedom were always on his mind.
Equal to his love of riding, Biff's deep connection to Rock-a-Billy music started when he was at Kaukauna HS and later at Appleton HS where he graduated in 1961. From the 50's on, he collected old 45's and was always looking for live shows and festivals to attend. He enjoyed his music trips with Bill, who cherished Biff as a best friend by choice, and a father-in-law by coincidence. Through his love for music more friendships were made. The original 50's artists where his hero's, and they often sought out Biff for post-show visits. Music lovers from the US, England and Australia enjoyed Biff's first-hand knowledge of songs, bands and record labels, and his willingness to share stories of what it was like when this whole Rock n' Roll thing got started.
The list of things that Biff loved is long. His Lord and his church group, his children, step children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who still believe that he piloted the plane at the American Legion, has Rudolph in the freezer, and will try to trap the Easter Bunny each spring. He loved anise candy and licorice; robots and aliens; and he loved riding with Jack.
He loved garage sales, that mutt, Two Wheel Tuesdays, and daily rides to nowhere. He loved his sister and his brothers (though he'd tell you that these others were, in fact, adopted), and he loved the train set that he shared with Butch.
Biff loved a warm burger and a cold beer and he knew where to find the best of both in the taverns that dot WI and the UP. His favorite days started with two wheels, five gallons of gas, and endless country roads.
He loved tinkering and dancing - yes, dancing, and he would have given anything for just one more day of riding with Jack.
Over all of Biff's years and over all of Biff's loves, none would compare to the love that he had for "his honey", Susan. Biff was devoted to her, and she to him. Biff knew that it was Susan who saved his life 31 years ago when they married. She was a perfect match, for an imperfect man.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Susan of 31 years; his two daughters: Kari (Bill) Thomson and Jena (Tony) Zoglman, both of Appleton; Stepchildren: Gary (Cheryl) Kohl, Appleton; Laurie (Scott) Lorentz, Neenah; Carol (Ron) Erickson, Princeton and Dan Kohl, Appleton; 17 Grandchildren: Alli (Ozzie), Quinn, Haley, Tyler, Krystal, Angel, Shayna, Tony, Matthew, Andy, Alex, Trey, Austin, Katrina, Abbygail, Gabriel and Mouse; 2 Great Grandchildren: Will and Tre'; a sister, Ricky (Ron Kelly) Vander Velden, Oneida; two brothers: Ray 'Butch' (Sue) Vander Velden, Kaukauna and Patrick 'Doc' (Kathy Dahl) Vander Velden, Menasha; 4 Aunts: Rita Froehlich, Carol Mauthe, Betty Derus all of Appleton and Carol (Tom) Vander Velden, Montana. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and long-time friends: Tom 'Greeny' Green, Bobby Price, Al Paltzer, Cliff Olson, Young Jack Burns and so many others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Esther and Al Neuenfeldt and a brother, Reed 'Jug'.
Please join the family in celebration of a wonderful man and his wonderful life. A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Greenville with Fr. Ricardo Basquinez officiating. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery.
