    Biography:
BIOGRAPHIE: . John Meyer Sr. (1886-1975) - by Don Zipperer John Meyer, Sr. was born in Friedrichsthal "bei Neumark" situated in the Kingdom of Bohemia just a few miles east of its border with Bavaria. The neighboring village was Hirschau, where he attended school. In 1904, John Meyer, Sr. came to America via Ellis Island in the port of New York City. En route to Wisconsin, where his Meyer cousins had already settled a couple of decades earlier, he worked as a tailor for a period of time at a Benedictine Abbey in Pennsylvania. Tailoring had also been his trade in Bohemia. When he arrived in Wisconsin, John Meyer picked up work as he found it, for example, as a tailor, bartender, farm hand, etc.. By the time he was seriously courting Agnes Pritzl, he had found steady employment as a hired hand on the farm of his cousin Frank Meyer, situated west of Whitelaw, Wisc. on Hempton Lake Road North. Working on the Frank Meyer farm offered John the opportunity to learn the American methods of farming. Fortunately, that farm was only about a mile's walk across the fields to the Michael Pritzl homestead, where Agnes lived. John & Agnes were married at Clark Mills in 1910 and first settled in Greenwood Wisc. where their first three children were born. The family purchased a farm near Medford Wisc. in February, 1917 and were dairy farmers until their retirement.
