Gerald F. Hendricks, 76, De Pere, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, with his loving family at his side after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on Aug. 28, 1931, in De Pere, to the late Fred and Eleanor (Denis) Hendricks. Jerry is a graduate of East De Pere High School, after graduation he enter the U.S. Air Force for 5 1/2 years of duty. On Dec. 26, 1953, he married Joyce Smits at St. Mary's Catholic Church in De Pere. While raising their young family, Jerry attended and graduated from St. Norbert College. He then taught at West De Pere High School for three years prior to his career in telecommunications. He began work with Wisconsin Telephone in De Pere and later moved to Cedarburg. He then entered Executive Management with AT & T. Jerry made many moves with his family during his career but the majority of time was spent in the Cedarburg area. Retiring in 1986 from AT & T, he and Joyce moved to Sun City Center in Florida. There he enjoyed golfing and traveling. To be closer to his family, Jerry and Joyce moved back to De Pere in 1995. Jerry loved to read, golf, bowl, and follow the Packers. He also enjoyed working on his computer. He was a past president of the Cedarburg Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; children, Beth (Dick) Hammetter, Slinger; Mary (Craig) Taylor, Appleton; Fred Hendricks, Atlanta, Ga.; Tom (Lori) Hendricks, Doylestown, Penn.; son-in-law, Jerry Hadler, Sleepy Hallow, Ill.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jeanne Hendricks; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy L. Hadler who died in 2005; one brother, Denis Hendricks.
Family and friends may call on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. David Duffeck officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family respectfully requests no flowers be sent, a memorial fund has been established.
