    Obituary:
John T. (Jack) Van Gheem, age 81, life-long resident of West De Pere, unexpectedly passed away at Bellin Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 22, 2018, after suffering a stroke. Jack was born December 13, 1936, to Raphael and Alberta Van Gheem. He was born at home on a bright sunny morning. He was later baptized that same day. Jack attended Grant School during his grade school years, and graduated from West De Pere High School. On May 31, 1958, he married the former Mary Ann Peterson at Immaculate Conception Church in Oneida, Wisconsin. Jack was a current member of St. John the Baptist Church in Seymour, Wisconsin.
Jack was very pleased to be a dairy farmer most of his life. Being extremely progressive, he attended agriculture classes at Fox Valley Technical College. He always said he started farming at age 6 because that is when he started milking for his folks by hand on a little black cow. Jack was very pleased that his 3 younger brothers also farmed as well as 2 of his sons.
Jack was named Outstanding Young Farmer in 1969 with his 2 sons also receiving the same award. In addition to his dairy operation, he also grew canning crops and other cash crops including corn, wheat, oats, and hay, he sold Holstein steers, and, as if he were not busy enough, he sold seed for Pioneer Hi-Bred for 22 years being one of the top sales reps for the State of Wisconsin as well as Northern Illinois and Upper Michigan.
Jack was a successful person, and always said he owed that success to a supportive and wonderful wife, his 3 great sons, and a splendid daughter. If he was ever down about something, he always said "No worries, this too shall pass, always look to the upside because there will always be one, even if it does not seem like it now." Jack's four F's were always Faith, Family, Farming, and Fun!
Jack was also very community-minded. While a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, he was an usher, served on the parish council for years as a member of the building committee, and was a trustee on the finance committee. He held different offices for the Fox Valley Famers Club and served as board chairman for Fox River Milk on the board of directors. He also served as a delegate for Associated Milk Producers, a national milk marketing organization.
Jack enjoyed a good game of cards with family and friends, and was an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed deer hunting very much. Jack was a comedian of sorts, always making people laugh!
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Mary, his children, John (Susan) Van Gheem, Paul (Sherry) Van Gheem, Mark (Chris) Van Gheem, and Lisa (Jason) Angotti. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Andrew Van Gheem, Jennifer (Joel) Blattner, Sarah (Travis) Johannsen, Kathryn (Anthony) Nicholas, Jacqueline Van Gheem, Benjamin (Jennifer) Van Gheem, Samantha (Alex) Johnson, Michael, Jacob, and Marysa Van Gheem. He is further survived by his 5 great grandchildren, Lily, Wyatt, and Audrey Blattner, Henry Johannsen, and Claire Nicholas. Further survivors include his sister, Anne (Louis) Peterson, his brother, Nicholas (Connie) Van Gheem, and his sister-in-law, Delores Van Gheem. He is also survived by Mary's siblings, Louis (Anne) Peterson, Donald Peterson, Gordon (Mary) Peterson, Orin (Jean) Peterson, Nancy (James) Jansen, Judy (Edward) Gonnering, Betty (Frank) Gonnering, and Joanne (Gail) Helke, as well as many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and very dear friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Phillip and Daniel Van Gheem, his sisters-in-law, Gayle Van Gheem and Mabel Peterson. He is further preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orin and Johanna Peterson as well as other extended family members.
