    MARY CALMES Mrs. Mary Calmes, 77, an old resident of Appleton, died Thursday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wlllard Kimball, 735 E. Wisconsin-ave, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Calmes, who came to America from France when she was 11 years old, had lived in this city for the past 44 years. Survivors are two daughters, Miss Lyda and Mrs. Kimball; four sons, Theodore, John, Fred and Edward, Appleton: and 14 grandchildren. The funeral will be held Monday morning at St Therese church with burial in St. Joseph cemetery- The body will be taken from the Schommer Funeral home to the home of Mrs. Kimball Friday afternoon.

Germaine and Orville were married June 30, 1943, at Sacred Heart Par ish in Appleton. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage together.Germaine was the dear mother of Michael (Marjorie) Murphy, Black Creek; Pa trice (Frederick) Kranzusch, Appleton; Bonnie (Mark) Rabideau, Kaukauna; K athleen (John) Hanneken, Tempe, Arizona; and Brian (Kathy) Murphy, Appleto n. She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren: Robert Murphy, Ry an Murphy, Sean Murphy, Erik (Lynn) Kranzusch, Kristin (Daniel) Brellenthi n, Neal Rabideau, Keith Rabideau, Erin Hanneken, Kelly Hanneken, Patrick M urphy, Kyle Murphy and Tyler Murphy.Germaine was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; a sister, Dr. Hel en M. Germaine graduated from Actual Business College and was employ ed in the office of Appleton Coated Paper Company. After marrying Orvill e, Germaine's career shifted to taking care of her family, which was qui te a feat with five children! A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Germ aine's family always came first. In 1955 during the polio scare, Germai ne protected her children by keeping them inside the house for the enti re summer. She managed to keep them happy and entertained the entire tim e! She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren at t heir summer home in Eagle River on Catfish Lake.Germaine was a fabulous cook. Her family loved the traditional French mea ls she prepared. Another of Germaine's many talents was her writing abilit y. She enjoyed writing poetry and honored her sister, Dr. Helen M. Calme s, with a poem about her sister's healing hands. Germaine also had a music al side; not only did she enjoy playing the organ, but she also loved to t ap dance. Germaine had a tender place in her heart for animals. She especi ally loved her two Siamese cats, Ming Toy and Suki Yaki. Germaine's sen se of adventure was always prevalent. She was never afraid to try somethi ng new. She and Orville loved to travel. Together, they traveled to eve ry continent. Germaine told wonderful and exciting stories about India, Af rica and the Soviet Union when it was still under Communist control. Her f avorite adventure was their "Flight Around the World" on the Concorde. Ger maine and Orville also enjoyed wintering in Arizona.She had a kind, fun-loving, caring and generous heart. Germaine was a tr ue lady - gentle and refined. She and Orville were charter members of St. Th omas More Parish. Her strong faith was practiced every day of her life. S he taught her children and grandchildren what "living your faith" really m eant. She always had a positive attitude and never complained. Her caregiv ers considered Germaine a role model. Germaine lived each day with grac e, dignity, faith and thankfulness.The funeral mass for Germaine will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept ember 9, 2006, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Str eet, with Father Gerald Falk as celebrant. Entombment will be in the St ar of Hope Chapel Mausoleum, Highland Memorial Park.     Born in Appleton, WI on May 2, 1948, Candy is survived by her husband Robert; four sons Matthew, Travis (Lisa), Ryan (Camille), Shawn, one daughter Kira, a sister Helen and brother Tom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ann (Streur) Calmes, and two brothers Ted and Terry Calmes.
    A graduate of West High School Class of '66 and a graduate of Fashion & Interior Decorating at the Patricia Stevens Career College Class of '67. Candy married the love of her life, Bob, July 1, 1967 and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past July.
    Candy's greatest joy in life was her family that she dedicated her whole life to, taking care of and nurturing her children. Anyone who knew Candy saw first-hand the kindness of her eyes, the love of her heart, and the beauty in her soul. She and Bob enjoyed 30 years of taking day trips every Saturday, to adjacent states, and many visits to Amish areas from Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa.
    Later in life, Candy's greatest joy and happiness was her grandchildren whom she loved dearly and thought of every day. Hayden, Madison, Terrence, Raeleigh and Michael - you are loved by your Grammy beyond comprehension and have a beautiful angel watching over you all.

    Calmes, Nicholas F. - It is with great sadness that we announce that Nic passed away November 9th in River Falls, Wisconsin. He battled Pancreatic Cancer for 47 months. Nic was born June 3rd 1955, the youngest child of the late Willard Sr. and Viola (Salm) Calmes. On July 15th 1978 Nic and Deb Rochon were united in marriage.
    Nic was an outdoorsman. Cutting firewood, planting trees, hunting, trapping, sturgeon spearing, fishing, and watching nature thrive. He was a professional pickle packer and a weed free gardener.
    Nic is survived by his wife Debra, daughter Fran (Mitchel) Wayne and granddaughter Snow. He is further survived by brothers Victor (Lynn), Willard Jr (Stephanie), Daniel, sister Mary (Tim Quintal), father-in-law Patrick (Anna) Rochon, brother-in-law Arthur Rochon and other relatives and friends. Special friends Norman West and John Neu from Yankton, South Dakota and Rick Koch and his sons Ryan and Derek of Omro, Wisconsin who meant a great deal to him.
    Nic was preceded in death by his parents, son Brock, sister Kathleen Calmes, and mother-in-law Marlene Rochon.

    Kaukauna - James J. Calmes, age 76, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 18, 2018. He was born on May 11, 1941, on Mother's Day, son of the late Donald E. and Stella M. (Kempen) Calmes. James attended St. Nicholas Grade School, St. Norbert's High School and graduated from Freedom High School. He was united with the love of his life, Joanne M. Van de Hei, on September 16, 1961, at St. Bonifice Catholic Church.
    With a lot of hard work, dedication and a true passion for what he loved, James was able to start and successfully run James J. Calmes Construction Co., Inc. for many years. As the company grew, employees were hired and Joanne moved into the office and was the secretary for the company. James continued his education and attended Fox Valley Technical College and the University of Green Bay and attained his degrees in concrete, masonry, carpentry, plumbing and also received his pilot license. The company expanded to 30 employees that also went to apprenticeship schools and received on the job training for quality work and safety. The company also started several others including Mid Valley Utilities, Land Development, Calmes Custom Cabinets, Snow Removal and Pre Engineered Buildings. James and Joanne also purchased property and built over 139 new homes and sold them on their own, then went into commercial building. James would like to thank all of the employees that worked for his company. And a special thanks to some of the best leaders a company could have that include Roy Brown, Ray Diedrich Jr., Dan Bowers, Randy Calmes, Kevin Calmes and Todd Calmes. James and Joanne retired in 2001 when the company was sold to their sons, Randy J. Calmes and Todd M. Calmes.
    James is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne; his children: Deb Calmes, Randy (Jody) Calmes, Kevin (Tracy) Calmes, Todd (Chrissy) Calmes and Jodi (Ron) Pyke; grandchildren: Brandon (Erin) Conrad and their children: Blake and Kelcie, Amanda Conrad and her daughter, Jaelyn, Britny (Andrew) Babler, Clarissa (special friend, Tyler) Calmes, Brady (Alexis) Calmes, Kearsten Calmes, Austin Geenen (special friend Alissa), Madison Geenen, Paige (special friend, Josey) Calmes, Olivia Calmes, McKenzie Calmes, Amber (Chris) Nackers and their children: Nevaeh, Isaiah and Coraeh, Cody (special friend, Mariah) Calmes, Aubree Calmes, Courtney Calmes, Kristin Calmes and Derek Calmes; siblings: Carol Leygraaf, Jean (Bob Van Damm) Van Schyndel, John (Sue) Calmes, Hank (Vicky) Calmes, Jerry (Candice) Calmes, Roseanne (Ron) Holewinski, Don Jr. (Amy) Calmes, Mary (Jon) Williams, Bob (Bonnie) Calmes, David (Kim) Calmes and Patti Jansen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Eleanor (Tom) DeGroot, Helen (Ron) Hietpas, Melvin (Blanca) Van de Hei, Stephen (Linda) Van de Hei, Mary Haupt (special friend Rick) and Elaine (Fred) DeGroot; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    James was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Stella; a brother, LeRoy Calmes; father and mother-in-law, George Van de Hei and Doreen (Van de Hei) Sendzik; brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom Leygraaf, David Van Schyndel, Bonnie Van de Hei and Lois Van de Hei; nieces: Linda Calmes and Sherrie Leygraaf and Terri DeGroot.
    Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Msgr. John Schuh will officiate. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park.     On March 9, 2012, Matthew Daniel Calmes, age 32, slept into heaven in the arms of his loving wife, Melissa. Matt was born November 3, 1979, in Appleton, WI. He was united in marriage on July 11, 2009, to his best friend, Melissa (Ralston) Calmes.
    He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Viola and Willard Calmes, August and Ruby Bergeman; Aunt Kathleen Calmes; Uncle Patrick McCarthy; and Grandfather of Melissa, James (Pappy) Wood.
    He is survived by his wife, Melissa; his mother, Jean (Joseph) Talamanco; father, Daniel Calmes; sister, Sara Hoffman; brother-in-law and friend, Kristoffer Hoffman; sister, Christine Calmes; grandparents, Betty and Cliff McCarthy; a nephew, Kristoffer Hoffman; two nieces, Molly and Kaitlyn Hoffman; the best doggie in the world, Lila; and a host of family and friends.
    Matt was diagnosed with a brain tumor in August of 2006, which he and Melissa faced together with grace and courage. Throughout this long battle, he continued to enjoy life, and was an inspiration to all who knew him. In Matt's last year, Melissa was constantly by his side, loving and caring for him.
    Matt was a positive and content person who brought joy to all who knew him. He had many good friends from Appleton and from college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With these friends, he shared many good times laughing, traveling, and following sports-especially the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers.
    Matt and Melissa shared a beautiful friendship and love. They enjoyed traveling, concerts, sporting events, hanging out with friends, taking Lila for walks, and just being together. Melissa's family and friends welcomed him and loved him dearly.
    A beautiful Memorial Mass celebrating Matt's life was held at Saint Clement Church in Chicago on March 13. Matt will be deeply missed by all.
    Contributions can be made to the Fox Valley Brain Tumor Coalition (5320 W. Michael's Dr., Appleton, WI) who supported Matt's mother throughout these difficult years.

    Brock Calmes, age 28 of Dale, died unexpectedly of a blood clot on Monday May 14, 2012 in Spooner, WI. Brock was born on October 17, 1983, in Appleton, WI, to Nick and Deb (Rochon) Calmes. He worked as a Fisheries Technician in Wisconsin and Idaho. He was at his best hawking in the stands for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. No one could miss the sound of his booming voice resonating throughout the stadium. He was loved by both young and old in the stands.
    Brock loved the outdoors. He spent many hours volunteering at Mosquito Hill Nature Preserve, winning the Cliff and Jean Braeger Volunteer Award. He loved both deer and waterfowl hunting and sturgeon spearing. In addition, he would participate in South Dakota's Spring snow goose hunting season. In Readfield, he enjoying shooting trap.
    He was an active 4H member in his school years. Winning many ribbons and Grand Champion ribbons. He attended 4H camp where he was loved as a camper and as a camp counselor.
    Brock is survived by his parents, his sister Fran (Mitchel) Wayne, grandfather Patrick (Anna) Rochon, Aunts and Uncles: Victor (Lynn) Calmes, Willard Jr. (Stephanie) Calmes, Daniel Calmes, Mary (Tim Quintal) Calmes, Arthur Rochon, and many other family and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Georgia Rochon; his paternal grandparents, Willard and Viola Calmes; his maternal grandmother, Marlene Rochon; an aunt, Kathleen Calmes; and cousin, Matthew Calmes.
    As seen in The Post-Crescent, a Celebration of Brock's Life will take place Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 6-9pm at the Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
    Brock was a tissue donor, and he lives on through this precious gift to others.
    Brock, we all love you and will remember you. You were one hell of a guy.
