    Zahringer, Arthur Nickolas
    Arthur Nickolas Zahringer, age 87, Stockbridge, WI, passed away on Jan. 11, 2008.
    Art was born on Dec. 6, 1920, the son of Clara (Daniel) and William Zahringer, in Stockbridge. He graduated from the Stockbridge High School in 1938 and entered into the U.S. Army Air Corp Division in 1942. He defended our nation in World War II as a glider co-pilot with the 15th Troop Carrier Squadron and fought in North Africa and Europe and was awarded five battle stars. Art returned home in October 1945 and married Dorothy Nickel on May 15, 1946. They shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Art and Dorothy ran Dot and Art's 55 Cafe in Sherwood for 3 years while also farming in Stockbridge. They sold the cafe when they were blessed with Randy and Cindy, their two children. Art continued to farm in Stockbridge until 1982 when he retired.
    During his years of farming, Art also worked in his own white washing business, tended bar at Hickory Hills, served as a Deputy Sheriff in Calumet County and was a Dance Hall Inspector. He was a member of the School Board at the Stockbridge High School, on the Board of Directors for the Calumet County Hospital, Charter Member of the Brickyard Fishing Club and American Legion Post in Stockbridge. Art enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting, sports and traveling with Dorothy on many vacations in their retirement. He enjoyed spending time with Dorothy and the family, especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful man who touched many lives with his jokes, laughter, and friendship.
    He is further survived by his son Randy (Laura) Stockbridge, his daughter Cindy, Fargo, ND, his grandchildren - Jackie, Joe (Holly), Emily, Alexis, Wyatt and Matthew. His brother Sylvester (Doris) Zahringer, Stockbridge. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Matthew and Hugo, two sisters, Martha Schoen and Emma Zahringer, and sister-in-law Ceil Hopfensburger.
    Funeral service will be at 11:15 a.m. on Monday Jan. 14, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
    Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. when services will be held. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Arthur N. Zahringer. Wieting Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online Condolences at www.wietingfuneral home.com
