    Obituary:
Walter George Grimmer, an avid outdoorsman, sports enthusiast and loving family man, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the age of 93. Family members recall Wally as a man of great patience who never spoke ill of anyone. His humility, work ethic, and sense of humor were characteristic of his generation. He was a good husband and father, a skilled handyman, and a competitive spirit.Wally spent many happy hours hunting in the forests and fields of Wisconsin. He had a knack for it, too; in 1938, Wally shot seven ducks with two shots. He was also a skilled gardener and won the Area Realtors Lawn Competition in 1958 after three judges came to rate the lawn, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
Wally was born at home on the farm on May 19, 1917, in Grand Chute. He attended Columbus Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and graduated from Appleton High School in 1936. As a member of the greatest generation, Wally experienced some of the most pivotal moments of the 20th century. He also witnessed the beginning of many things that have since become integral to the American character. In 1929, for instance, Wally and his family went to the first talking motion picture show in Appleton. On August 6, 1946, Wally married Ruby Louise Parker. Wally and Ruby enjoyed 64 years together. Wally worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service from 1936 until his retirement in 1979. He knew nearly everyone on Route 23 and was on good terms with even the family dogs.
Wally held many unique distinctions during his lifetime. A devoted golfer, he played 54 holes in Neenah in July 1936, despite temperatures of around 100 in the shade. Wally also spent many years with friends in local bowling leagues and bowled at Hahn's Lanes in December 1940 on the night it opened. He later bowled a 712 series, his personal best, at Hahn's in January 1942. A longtime sports fan, Wally had plenty of memorable firsts. In 1929, the Grimmer family bought their first radio and Wally began listening to the Cubs. He went to his first Cubs game in Chicago in 1937 with his Uncle Freddy. Wally later bought his first Packer season tickets for $10 in 1938 -- a time when the team played on the Green Bay East football field. In 1967, he and his son Dan went to the legendary Ice Bowl with neighbor and friend, Jim Helf.
Wally also served in the United States Army during World War II. On February 18, 1942, he left to be inducted into the armed forces. He served in Europe with the engineers and received a purple heart for the injuries he sustained. He came home from the war on October 31, 1945. Wally told his sons and grandchildren about his experiences in the war for many years, and in 2010 recorded some of his stories for future generations of Grimmers.
Wally is survived by his wife, Ruby; his sons, Dan (Judy), Tom (Beth); and his grandchildren, Andy, Maddy, Lindsey, Nathan and Tyler.
Wally's family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff at "Rennes Health & Rehab Center" for making Wally's last few years worth living. We can't express in words what you've meant to all of us. Thank you.
There will be a private family gathering at the Grimmer home on Saturday afternoon to remember the stories, both poignant and humorous, of a good man and a life well lived.

Walter married Parker, Ruby Louise 6 Aug 1946. Ruby (daughter of Parker, Ollie and Hauser, Margaret) was born 23 Apr 1922; died 20 Mar 2013; was buried , Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Appleton, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet]

    Obituary:
Tom W. Grimmer, 56, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the ThedaCare Medical Center. He was born to Walter and Ruby (Parker) Grimmer on June 20, 1961 in Appleton. He married Beth Kunitz on May 1, 1993 in Appleton, WI and the two enjoyed 24 years together.
Family members and friends remember Tom's quick wit and sense of humor. In fact, every story told about Tom is punctuated by bouts of laughter. (Those who know him will understand that many of these stories cannot be published here.) Tom loved to share his humor and warmth by giving people nicknames and joking around with others.
Tom had a competitive spirit and played many sports and games, including golf, tennis, longboarding, disc golf, and shooting hoops on the driveway. Tom was known for his comedically short temper when learning a new game, but equally recognized for his endless patience in teaching skills like skiing and snowboarding to others. He bowled several 700 series' during League games, and he was proud of his table tennis accomplishments. He connected with others through games and even invented some of his own, such as pulling a kayak behind his jeep around the neighborhood in the winter.
Tom coached his children's football and basketball teams. Family was always a priority for Tom, and he surrounded himself with loved ones for holidays, birthdays and other family traditions. He cooked family meals in later years using his mother Ruby's cookbooks and handwritten recipes. He also liked spending time at the family's cottage on the lake. Other activities that Tom enjoyed included playing the piano, listening to his Beatles collection, and watching James Dean movies.
Tom graduated from Appleton West in 1979. He completed his associate's degree in architecture at the Northwest Technical Institute. Tom became an architect and enjoyed working many years with his coworkers at Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. and previously at Birschbach & Associates. Throughout his career, he made many friends. He was also a member of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA).
Tom is survived by his wife, Beth; children: Lindsey, Nathan and Tyler; his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Judy; his father- and mother-in-law, Chuck and Bette Kunitz; his sister-in-law Anne, and her husband Chris O'Renick; and nieces and nephews: Andrew Grimmer, Maddy and Ezra Bartsch, and Jack Walsh. He is also survived by his aunt, Marian Parker, and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. SUPERIOR ST., APPLETON, with Rev. John Kieffer officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until the time of the service. Inurnment will occur at a later date in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been created.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the first responders, Appleton Fire Department, and the AMC Emergency and ICU staff for their care and compassion for the entire family.
    Dear Dad,
We wanted to thank you for not only being the best, funniest, handsomest, loving dad a child could ask for, but for also being our best friend. You made us so proud to call you our dad every single day. We love you with all of our hearts. Love, Meyer, Nate and Tiny
Tom was the best little brother that a big brother could ever have. I will miss him always, but he will live in my heart, my memories and my soul forever. With all my love, Dan.

    Obituary:
Boyd William Grimmer, age 77, died unexpectedly on July 22nd, 2015 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Boyd was a kind, gentle, loving man, strong in his faith. He lived his life in a selfless manner, being an example of love and kindness by his actions rather than simply his words. If you asked him, he would not hesitate to share God's Word with you.
Boyd was born on February 22nd, 1938 to Merton and Dorothy Close in Wausau, Wisconsin. He was raised in Appleton by his mother Dorothy Grimmer and his stepfather Willard Grimmer. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1957. Boyd met the love of his life, Carol Merkel, in high school, and they were married on May 9th, 1959. They had five children: Michael, Thomas, John, David, and Lisa. Michael, John, David, and Lisa all have married and blessed Boyd and Carol with 8 beautiful grandchildren.
Boyd served in the Marine Corps Reserves. He went on to work as a mail carrier for thirty-seven years and dearly enjoyed interacting with the many people on his route before his retirement in 1998. He also worked part-time for many years at Bohl and Maeser Shoe Store to help provide for the family. After retirement, Boyd enjoyed the simple things in life, loving and caring for his wife and family. For a number of years in his early retirement, he was a thoughtful caretaker for his mother and mother-in-law. He was an integral part of his Clark Street neighborhood, always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed getting up early to have coffee and sit in a chair or swing outside to watch the glory of a new day in a peaceful setting. He would then carry on with life's responsibilities in a slow, easy fashion for the rest of the day. Boyd enjoyed the routine of a walk to Starbucks almost daily to have coffee and read.
Boyd is survived by his wife Carol of fifty-six years; his children: Michael and his wife Ginger, John and his wife Dale, David and his wife Margaret, and Lisa Britton and her husband Andy. He is also survived by his in-laws: Debbie and Pete Loughrin, Connie Merkel, Paul Brown, Harold Fromm and Mary Alice Merkel; his grandchildren: Lindsay, Chelsea, Sarah, Nicole, Kate, Eric, Ben, and Marina; and by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Boyd was preceded in death by his infant son Tommy, father Merton Close, mother Dorothy Grimmer, stepfather Willard Grimmer, sister Sandra Fromm, father-in-law Ivan Merkel, mother-in-law Ethel Merkel, brother-in-laws: Ron Merkel and Gary Merkel, and sister-in-law Lois Brown.
