    Obituary:
Dick Mommaerts, son of Edwin and Mary, husband of Barbara, father of Michele, Dirk and Paul, grandfather of Natalie, Beau, Kennedy and Sam passed away on February 9, 2013 due to complications of Alzheimers. .
He was born on January 12, 1936 in the house his father had built at 1001 Gross Avenue; he attended St. Joseph's through grade 8, attended Central Catholic High School for three years and graduated from West High in 1954. Dick served in the US Air Force from 1955-58 spending much of his time overseas in Trabzon, Turkey. After serving in the Air Force, he attended UW-Oshkosh and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Secondary Education/English and German in 1961. Further education included earning a M.S. Degree in Guidance and Counseling from UW-Milwaukee in 1964.
Barbara and Dick were married on August 19, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Dick taught English and Reading in the Fond du Lac school district before relocating to his favorite place on earth….Green Bay; he was a guidance counselor in the Green Bay Public School System (Lombardi Middle School, West High School and Southwest High School) for 33 years until his retirement in 1995.
A Packer fan for his entire life, he was a season ticket holder since 1957. His season tickets were passed on to his son and daughter. Among his other interests were golfing with buddies Tuff, Lee, Chuck, Tom, Pete, Bob, Al, Marty, Don, and Mert. In 1986 he achieved a lifelong dream by getting his Private Pilot's License. He had many wonderful, carefree hours flying both ultra-light and private air planes as well motorcycle riding with his long time friend Jim. Another tick off his bucket list occurred on August 7, 2007 when he scored a hole-in-one at #17 of Brown County Golf Course. Hunting, snowmobiling and motorcycling were also greatly enjoyed with his son Paul. Dick had looked forward to watching his grandson Beau play high school sports.
Having been blessed with three wonderful children, he was again blessed by his four equally wonderful grandchildren….Natalie, Beau, Kennedy and Sam. Each had a special way of filling him with pride and love. They all were the greatest gift for which a man could ever hope.
Survivors include his immediate family: wife, Barbara; daughter, Michele Eliason and Dave Zychowski; son, Dirk Mommaerts, son, Paul Mommaerts and his wife Paige; grandchildren, Natalie Eliason, Beau Mommaerts, Kennedy Mommaerts, Sam Mommaerts; a brother, Mike and his wife Barb; two sisters-in-law, Marye Van Boxel and Ione Herrmann as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 3:00 pm until the funeral service at 6:30 pm with John Bundra officiating. Military honors will follow. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dick's name.
The family deeply appreciates the thoughtful, tender care Dick received at Alpha Senior Concepts during his Alzheimer's journey. Thanks also to SouthernCare Hospice.
