    Mrs. Mike Defferding (Emma Beckman) Age 90, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Friday after a short illness. She was born October 9, 1877, in the town of Center and lived in the town of Center until 1929, and then moved to Appleton. Survivors are three sons, Leo, Oregon; Lawrence, Town of Center; Cornelius, Shiocton; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-great g r andchildren, 15 great-grat grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Valley Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Ziemer, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Valley Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Monday until the time of the service Tuesday.

    Florella M. Stephan, 94, of Black Creek passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Appleton Health Care Center. She was born April 1, 1918 daughter of the late Arthur and Lillie (Daelke) Defferding. On Jan. 14, 1935 she was united in marriage to William Stephan in Spooner. He preceded her in death in March 1983.
    Florella was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Black Creek. She was involved in Senior Citizens of Black Creek, Black Creek Homemakers and was a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo with family and friends.
    Survivors include her children: Deloris Chizek, Black Creek; Thomas (Pat) Stephan, Arizona; son-in-law Robert Schmidt, Appleton; 20 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brothers: Roy Geiger, Appleton; Elmer (Bev) Geiger, Appleton; sister Betty Young, Clintonville; sisters-in-law: Amy Geiger and Connie Geiger
    Preceded in death by 2 daughters Carol and Lorraine; 2 sons: Billy (Shirley) and Donald (Betsy); 2 brothers: Kenneth and Eugene; sister Shirley (Carl) Treichel; granddaughter, Rose; 2 great grandsons Lucas and Zachary; son-in-law Edward Chizek; brother-in-law Vernon Young

    Defferding, Earl A. Town of Center
    Age 64, died unexpectedly Friday, December 5, 2003 at his home. He was born August 4, 1939 the son of the late Laurence and Laura (Vick) Defferding. On August 31, 1963 he married Eileen Nemitz.
    Earl belonged to the Model A Club where he and Eileen met many nice people. He was also a member of the Lakeshore and Fox Valley Tractor Clubs. He participated in various steam shows in the area. He loved his "cottage-like" home and enjoyed the yard work involved with living there. He will be dearly missed by his pet Chihuahua's --Tanner, Ollie, Pork and Coco.
    He will be sadly missed by his wife, Eileen; sisters and brother: Beverly (Hugo) Graper, Clintonville; Ruth (Ronald) Young, Kentucky; Leon Defferding, Town of Center; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marion Kuharski, Rush Lake; Roger Orvis, Rosendale; Marjorie (Albert) Ewald, Berlin; Edmund (Beverly) Nemitz, Van Dyne; Ervin (Carla) Nemitz, Van Dyne; Ronald (Judy) Nemitz, Oshkosh; JoAnn Nemitz, Menasha. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Bernice Orvis; brother-in-law, Sidney Kuharski; nephew, Carl Graper; niece, Jenna Barthuly, and his faithful companion, his pet Chihuahua, Billy.
    The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, N3505 Hwy 47, Appleton with Pastor Jeffery Suhr officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday December 8, at the funeral home and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

    Leon A. Defferding, age 66, of the Town of Center passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at his home. He was born October 12, 1947 a son of the late Lawrence and Laura (Vick) Defferding.
    Following graduation from Seymour High School Leon worked on the family dairy farm with his father and continued to operate the farm until his retirement.
    Leon was a member of the two cylinder tractor club and was also a collector of John Deere engines. He enjoyed going to the various tractor shows and county fairs in the area.
    He is survived by two sisters: Beverly (Hugo) Graper, Clintonville; Ruth Young, Naples, FL; nephews: David (Mary) Graper, Randy (Lois) Graper, Steven (Cathie) Young, Darrell Young; niece, Laurie (Richard) Mackert; sister-in-law, Eileen Defferding; further survived by other relatives and friends.
    In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Defferding.

    Karene A. Lauer, age 78, Menasha, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013, with her family by her side. Karene was born on July 25, 1935, in Appleton daughter of the late Cornelius and Esther (Allender) Defferding.
    Karene loved nature, bird watching and being at her cabin on the Wolf River in Shiocton. She will be missed by her family and friends because of her love and compassion of others.
    She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Bob) Stammer, Hortonville; son Gary (Barb) Obermeier, Ventura, CA; stepchildren, Sue (Sid) Stocker, Waupaca; Karen Palm, Appleton; and Leroy Jr. (Mary) Lauer, Dale; her siblings: Joyel (Owen) Boyce, Menasha; Janis Defferding, Shiocton and Ivan (Jacklyn) Defferding, Holland; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Joseph Obermeier, Dennis (Pat) Obermeier and Sue (Dan) Van Sistine; two grandchildren Kylie Obermeier and Calvin (Erin) Stammer; great-grandchild, Calvin Joseph Stammer and also step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Karene is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Karene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leroy Lauer Sr., mother in-law, Margaret Obermeier; son Brian Obermeier, brothers, Aaron Defferding and Keith Defferding, stepson, Tom Lauer and special friend James Barnes.
    Funeral services for Karene will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home, Shiocton with Rev. Greg Watling officiating. Burial will be in the Shiocton Bovina Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Shiocton funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and also on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
    Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff on the 5th floor at Theda Clark for their care, concern and support for Karene and her family.

    Lorraine Schmidt, Appleton, age 71, was unexpectedly called into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday morning, January 28, 2009. Lorraine was born in Hortonville on March 18, 1937, daughter of the late William Stephan and Florella (Defferding) Stephan. On February 20, 1957, she married Robert Schmidt, Sr. in Black Creek; he survives. Lorraine dedicated her entire life to serving her Lord and the needs of others. For many years she volunteered her time for the AAA Pregnancy Counseling Center. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Stephensville, and for the past twenty years at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Freedom, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, the hot lunch program, as a Sunday School teacher, and in other capacities as well. Lorraine will also be remembered for her work as a service associate at Appleton Medical Center. In her free time, Lorraine loved to play cards with family and friends.
    Lorraine is survived by her mother: Florella Stephan, formerly of Black Creek; her husband: Robert Schmidt of Appleton; six children: Robert (Karen) Schmidt, Jr. of Black Creek; Robin (Randy) Ashman of Seymour; Rhonda (Scott) Mahnke of Appleton; Shelly (Bill) Henn of Appleton; Ryan (Bobbie Jo) Schmidt of Hortonville; and Gina (Travis) Van Straten of Hortonville; nineteen grandchildren: Sara (Chad) Scheibe, Andy Schmidt and his fiancee Melissa, Laura Schmidt, Casey Ashman, Calvin Ashman, Katrina Ashman and her fiance Troy, Kyle Ashman, Tricia Mahnke, David Mahnke, Carter Mahnke, Chelsey Henn, Stephanie Henn, Tiffany Henn, Whitney Henn, Willie Henn, Dylan Schmidt, Avery Schmidt, Trevor Van Straten, and Trey Van Straten; two great-grandchildren: Calli and Logan Scheibe. Lorraine is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, an infant daughter: Rose Marie Schmidt; a grandson: Lucas Schmidt; brothers: Donald (Betsy) Stephan and William Stephan, Jr.; Bob's parents: Arthur and Hilda Schmidt; and brothers-in-law: Roger Schmidt, Ruben Schmidt, and Jack Schmidt.
    The Christian Funeral for Lorraine will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009, at ST. PETER EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, N2749 French Road in Appleton, with Rev. Tim Glende officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. A memorial fund is being established in Lorraine's memory.
    Lorraine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. While her unexpected passing causes us deep grief today, we know that she is in God's presence now, singing His praises for eternity.

    Obituary:
    Black Creek - Dennis Lee Defferding, 65, of Black Creek, passed away Friday morning, March 9, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born August 15, 1952, son of Dorothy (Schultz) Defferding and the late Keith Defferding.
    He served in the US Army from 1972 to 1975. On February 24, 1979 he was united in marriage to Sharon Mc Niesh, having celebrated 39 years of marriage.
    Dennis worked as a custodian at the Shiocton School for over 20 years prior to his retirement. He cherished his family, especially the grandchildren.
    He is survived by his wife, Shari; his two sons: Scott (Julie Heindl) Defferding and Eric (Sara) Defferding; grandchildren: Cassidy, Logan and Hayden; mother, Dorothy Defferding; siblings: LuAnn (Ken) Huck, Nancy (Glenn) Neff and John (Lisa) Defferding; mother-in-law, Lorraine Mc Niesh, brother-in-law: Bill (Lois) Mc Niesh; sister-in-law, Donna (Bob) Koch; and best friend, Dave Betters.
    Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 201 E. Birch Street, Black Creek on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 9:30 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Steve Schlicht officiating. Military honors will take place at the church.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dennis's memory.
