Description: Her Parents married in 1922 years after her birth so Bernice is either a child from another relationship or a previous marriage or another mother named Gertrude who married a Froeming or she changed her name from Kahosky to Froeming & referred to Ed & Gertrude as her parents. . But then why does she not show as Froeming in 1930 census?

THERE IS NO BERNICE FROEMING--HER SUPPOSED FATHER WAS NOT MARRIED YET. when you go to 1930 census it shows no Bernice Froeming. I checked 1930 census for any Bernice Froeming b betw 1911 & 1915 living in WI--None listed. I cannot look up marriage of 1934 since papers stop at 1932. Cannot look up any obit pre 1999 for Appleton.

    Family History Researcher:
Jay, First off, I apologize for having Bernice's birthday wrong. I had 9/12/1913 and it should be 9/22/1913.
Bernice is and will continue to be somewhat of a mystery to me. While I believe she is Gertrude's daughter, I have doubts that her father is Edward Froeming.
In the 1920 census, Edward Froeming was living with the Kohasky family. Bernice carried the last name Kohasky at that time and is listed as Bernard's granddaughter. This was two years before Gertrude and Edward were married.
When Laura and William Kohasky died in 1920 Bernice is listed as a sibling, which would make her Gertrude's sibling. I doubt that Bernice is their sibling. They may have written is that way to keep up "appearances", but that's just a guess on my part.
Bernice is listed as Gertrude and Edward Froeming's daughter after they are married. This may have been done for social purposes as Edward would have been Bernice's step-daughter. Bernice's 1993 obituary listed Edward and Gertrude Kohasky Froeming Sr. as her parents. No matter who her biological father was, Edward would have been the one she recognized as her father.
Gertrude may have had Bernice while out of town, possibly with other family members, but have no fully explored this angle yet as there are a few places to chose from. Honestly, I'm not sure where to start and don't know what it would prove to find her birth record at this point.
I tried unsuccessfully to find her birth record at the Outagamie County register of deeds. First I looked up all "K" names for 1913, then looked for all birth records for September 1913 under every letter in the alphabet and found 2 people were born on that date in Outagamie County, one was male and the other record bore wasn't even close to what I was looking for. I did check the entire month for any Bernice and Agnes under every letter in the alphabet and came up with nothing.
Edward and Gertrude Froeming are buried at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, Outagamie, WI. Bernice is buried with both of her husbands at St. Mary Cemetery in Menasha, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. All three share the same headstone.
I have a feeling that finding more about Bernice's parentage could lead to more problems than it's worth.
If Edward is her biological father, then that would make him about 14 when she was born. Which even back then would have been frowned on as Gertrude was about 20.
If Edward isn't her biological father then that would make for some unpleasant surprises for descendents in that family line. I don't feel it's my place to change the family tree that much and will leave it up to that family to make those changes. Either way, it feels like something that could cause a lot of hard feelings and I don't want that to happen.
Will be sending other headstone pictures either today or tomorrow. Thank you again for everything you do.
    Lori
