Richard J. "R.J." Kamps, age 83, passed away surrounded by family, on Thursday, October 11, 2012. RJ was born in Appleton on October 26, 1928, to Harold and Virginia (Lally) Kamps. He was one of three in the family, including his sister Virginia "Ginny" and brother Jerry. RJ grew up in Appleton and graduated from Appleton Senior High School in 1946. He and five high school buddies joined the Army in September of 1946. RJ served in the Army of Occupation in Korea until March of 1948 when he was discharged as a sergeant. He then attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1952 with a BS in Economics. RJ was in the sales management field for 41 years. He was active in founding VFW Post 10544 and was its initial Post Commander. RJ leaves many friends. His charismatic personality left a memorable impression on all who had the privilege of meeting him. His luncheon group, the R.O.M.E.O.s (Retired Old Men Eating Out) held special meaning to him. RJ is survived by his wife and best companion, Charlsey Jo "Josie" and four children, Kristi (Nathaniel) Kamps; Michael (Carol) Kamps; Lisa (John) Glaze; and Kathy (Bill) Houston. He is further survived by his stepchildren, John (Maria) Schachner; James (Paula) Schachner; and Susan Swanson. RJ is also survived by his brother Jerry (Annette) Kamps. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick, in 1993 and his sister Ginny in 2007. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2012, at the GRAND MERIDIAN, 2621 N.
