    Samuel Briggs Will Be Buried Tomorrow
    Body will be taken to Thornville - was sixty-six years of age.
    The remains of Samuel Freeman Briggs, who passed away Thursday morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. Robert McGregor on Watson Street, at the age of sixty-six years, will be taken to Hortonville for burial tomorrow morning.
    Mr. Briggs was born in Maine, September 8, 1851, and at the age of five years moved with his parents to Hortonville. Here he grew to manhood and in 1880 was married to Emma Griffin. To this union three children were born, two of whom survive. They are Harry D. Briggs of Hortonville and Bessie E. Briggs of Oshkosh. The first born son died in infancy.
    Mr. Briggs made this state his home until 1900 when he moved to South Dakota where he lived until four years ago. Then he came to this city to spend the remainder of his days with his sister.
    Besides the two children mentioned above, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Robert McGregor, Antigo; Mrs. Allen Tipler, Neenah; Mrs. George Stein, Long Beach, California; Mrs. H. Sederholn, Genesse, Wis., also three brothers William of Newton, Miss.; Edward of Spearfish, S.D.; Ira of Whitewood, S.D.
    Two sisters, Mrs. E.A. Tobey of Antigo and Miss Jennie Briggs of Hortonville preceded Mr. Briggs in death some time ago.

    MRS. R. MCGREGOR CALLED TO REST - RESIDENT OF ANTIGO FOR THIRTY YEARS SUCCUMBS TO PROTRACTED ILLNESS
    Mrs. Robert McGregor, a resident of Antigo since its earliest days, died at about 1.20 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home, 123 Watson Street. She had reached the age of 74 years. Death was the result of a complication of diseases with which she had suffered since early in June.
    Mrs. McGregor, born Sarah Briggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Briggs, was born in the state of Maine, July 27, 1853. When she was about three years of age, she came with her parents to Wisconsin, settling at Hortonville. She grew up in that community and at about three years of age she came with her parents to Wisconsin, setting at Hortonville (sic). She grew up in that community and at about the age of eighteen she became the wife of Robert McGregor. Mr. and Mrs. McGregor lived for some time on a farm at Greenville and then moved to Antigo, arriving here about thirty years ago. For a number of years the resided in the township, later moving to this city.
    Surviving the departed are a widower, seven children, three brothers and three sisters. The children are Edward and Archie of Appleton, Mrs. Floyd Huggins of Butte des Morts, Mrs. Robert Schroeder of Rolling, Mrs. Charles McCandless of Antigo, William and Arthur of this city. The brothers are William of Mississippi, Edward of Rhinelander, and Ira of Bear Creek. The sisters are Mrs. H. Soderblom (sic) of Gennessee Depot, Mrs. Allen Tipler of Neenah, and Mrs. George Steen (sic) of Long Beach, Calif. One daughter, Mrs. Glen Devore, died about five years ago.
    Mrs. McGregor was a member of the Methodist church of this city, of the W.C.T.U. and W.R.C.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at the home on Watson Street, the Rev. M.H. Cloud officiating. Burial will be in the Antigo cemetery.

    Obituary:
    Ira Briggs, 85, Hortonville, died at 7 o'clock Friday evening at the Orlo Slater residence where he was making his home.
    He was born Feb. 19, 1864, in Hortonville and lived there all his life except for 10 years in South Dakota.
    Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Leila Landrow, Green Bay, Mrs. Elmer Conmer, Belle Forche, S.D., and Mrs. Louis McRann, Clintonville; one son, Lloyd, Bear Creek; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Lund Sedrhalm, Genessee Depot; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home, Hortonville. The Rev. Archie Wilcox, Hortonville, will be in charge. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Hortonville.
    Friends may call at the funeral home from Sunday noon until the time of the service.

    Clifford Briggs, 16-year old (sic) son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Briggs of Wittenberg, formerly of Hortonville, was killed in an automobile accident Sunday afternoon about two miles south of Wittenberg, according to word received by Appleton friends. The funeral will be held at 9:30 Thursday morning from the home at Wittenberg and at 1 o'clock in Hortonville. Interment will be in the Hortonville cemetery. Dr. Richard Evans of Appelton will have charge of the service.

    Obituary:
    Nellie (Mc Rann) Starcheska, age 92, Manawa, died on Friday, January 03, 2014. Nellie was born on January 23, 1921, daughter of the late Edward L. and Irma (Briggs) Mc Rann, on the Mc Rann farm near Bear Creek. She attended Silver Creek Grade School, Clintonville High School and Appleton School of Cosmetology. Nellie worked in New London for Sadie's Beauty Shop and Beth Ann Beauty Shop. On August 30, 1941, she married Arnold Starcheska at Methodist Church, Bear Creek. They lived on the Starcheska farm. She worked 5 years at Bessie's Beauty Shop in Manawa and 5 years at Dee Dee's Beauty Shop. In 1951, Arnie and she moved to Manawa and Nellie bought Dee Dee's Beauty Shop and moved it to the Eastling building. There she operated the shop for 33 years retiring in 1983. Nellie was a member of the Manawa United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and traveling.
    She is survived by a brother, Jim (LaVern) Mc Rann; brother's in-law, Gene Starcheska and Harold Eulrich and also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, sister, Mary Eulrich, sister-in-law, Beulah Starcheska and special cousin Raymond Briggs (who was killed in Korea in 1951).
    Funeral services for Nellie will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Manawa with Rev. Dale Eggert officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Symco.
