    Obituary:
Donald Carlton Hando, 92, Appleton, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Heritage, after a brief courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Appleton, on March 6, 1919, to Emil and Clara (Wolfgram) Hando. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Egan on Aug. 26, 1939. Soon thereafter, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Pearl Harbor shortly after the attack. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946, returning to his wife and young daughter.
Don was a machinist by trade having retired from Miller Electric in 1984. For many years he also worked a second job as a baker at Elm Tree Bakery. He also had a small engine repair shop in his garage for many, many years and was known as "the guy who could fix anything".
Don loved reading, growing his tomatoes, and helping his family and friends. He will be remembered for his loaves of apple and pumpkin bread. His many creative and innovative ideas were only surpassed by the number of people he befriended along the way. The later years of his life were devoted to the loving care of Lorraine. Don's faith was a very important part of his daily life and he loved his St. Joe's Church.
Don is survived by his children, Pat Nelson, Sharon (Daniel) Murton, Debbie (Alvin) Krause and Gail (Gary) Sharpe. Grandchildren include Scott (Kari) Nelson, Lisa Meyer, Donny (Heather) Hando, Mark and Dorrie Hando, Brad (Michelle) Murton, Brian (Marie) Murton, Travis (Whitney) Wickesberg, Tyler Wickesberg, Katie (Brad) Sharpe, Sara and Jenny Sharpe. Great-grandchildren include Amanda Nelson, Emma and Clare Hando, Savannah and William Murton, and Nate Murton. Special friends whom Don considered family were Paul and Marissa Zschaechner, Gary and Kathy Wichtel, John and Betty Zagorsky, Bill the pilot and Susan, and many other close friends whom he dearly loved.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; a son, Richard; a grandson, Donny; and many other family members and friends.
The funeral liturgy for Donald will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary and Deacon C.F. Dedman officiating. Friends may call on Thursday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
The family wishes to thank C.F. Dedman and Theda Care at Home Hospice for their loving care and kindness.
