    Biography:
KUNO F. KELLER was born in Pfullendorf, Baden, Germany, November 20, 1837, and died at Appleton, Wisconsin, May 1, 1906. He was a son of Dr. Joseph Keller, a practicing physician and Theresa Keller, both dying when he was a child scarcely three years old. He received his education in the elementary and high schools of Germany. Leaving school he learned the trade of watchmaker. In the spring of 1860 he left the fatherland, emigrating to New York City, where he plied his trade until he removed to Appleton in November, 1873, and established the jewelry business of K. F. Keller. In May, 1892, his son Gustave became a partner in the business, the firm name at that time being changed to K. F. Keller and Son. In 1902, the other sons were admitted and the firm name was again changed to K. F. Keller & Sons. The business is now being conducted by Gustave, Charles and William Keller. Mr. Keller was the father of nine children, five of whom are still living, and all residing at Appleton, as follows: Gustave, born at Hoboken, New Jersey, January 17, 1868. He received his education in St. Joseph's parochial school and Deland Business College, spent three and one-half years in New York, perfecting himself as a watchmaker, and a like period in Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked at his trade. He returned to Appleton in 1892, joining his father in business. In 1893 he was married to Theresa M. Leimer, daughter of Louis and Mary Leimer of Appleton, and has a family of eight children: Charles, born at Hoboken, New Jersey, July 15, 1870, married Helen Knoernschield, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and has five children; William, born at Rondout, New York, October 21, 1872, married Anna Stengle, of Woodville, Wisconsin, and has a family of five children; Louis H., born November 13, 1878; and Anna M., born July 2, 1881, both single, reside at home. The mother of these children, who was born January 12, 1839, in Singen, Baden, Germany, survives her husband and makes her home in Appleton. She is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, as are her daughter and all of her sons and their families.

    Obituary:
John J. "Jack" Keller died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 13, 2007. He was born on November 9, 1918, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Louis and Marie (Hollenbach) Keller.
After attending grade school, he graduated in 1937 from Appleton High School. He also graduated from Appleton Business College in 1938. Jack received additional schooling in 1949 from the College of Advanced Traffic; and in 1950, from the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) Law School. He passed the bar exam and was admitted as an ICC Practitioner.
From 1939-1950, he was employed by Kimberly-Clark Corporation working in traffic management. He established the Motor Carrier Operations Division and encouraged the corporation to procure airline equipment for corporate air travel service. Working with Kampo Transit, he helped create operations for removal and handling of sulfite waste liquor from paper manufacturing for use in the road binder roadway program in Wisconsin. During this time, Jack received pre-military training from the Wisconsin National Guard Units at Lawrence College in Appleton.
Jack served in the U.S. Army from October 1942 through April 1946, enlisting as a private soldier in the 9th Army. He served in the European Theater through the end of World War II on May 8, 1945, as Master Sergeant Major of the 548th Field Artillery Battalion. He was discharged honorably and received battle stars for the Battles of the Rhine River, the Ruhr Pocket and the Elbe River. Jack authored the history of the battalion published in Europe in 1945.
During a military leave, Jack returned to Appleton and married Ethel D. Courtois on February 19, 1944, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. Together, they had three sons (Robert, James and Thomas). Jack and Ethel were married for over 60 years, and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2004. They both were members of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Neenah.
After Jack's discharge from the army, he returned to his position at Kimberly-Clark. As he had a keen interest in property development, Jack also obtained a real estate license from the State of Wisconsin and handled a number of land development projects within the Fox Valley.
In December 1950, Jack joined Kampo Transit, Inc. as Vice President/General Manager. The company handled transportation of paper industry liquid products throughout North America. Kampo was later purchased by Schneider National.
Jack founded J. J. Keller & Associates in 1953 to service regulatory problems for the paper industry and transportation service. The organization was incorporated in 1958 and continued to provide regulatory consulting and publishing nationwide. From a one-man consulting shop, the corporation has grown to over 1,200 associates. Jack currently served as Founder and Chairman Emeritus.
In 1991, the J. J. Keller Foundation, Inc. was established. Shortly thereafter, they created the John J. & Ethel D. Keller Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Inc. Since that time, over $18 million has been given to charities to improve the quality of life for others.
Jack was inducted into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Appleton West High School Hall of Fame in 2004.
Jack was a life member of the Interstate Commerce Commission bar, a past director of Delta Nu Alpha, a past director of Associated Bank, and a past appointee to the Ninth National Bank Region Advisory Committee. He also was a member of the Fox Valley Traffic Club and a life member of the American Legion and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Jack is survived by his three sons: Robert (Lynne) of Kaukauna; James (Rosanne) of Butte des Morts; and Thomas of Tomah. Jack was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers: (Kuno and George); a sister (Mary); a brother-in-law, John Courtois; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Courtois.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 West Marquette Street in Appleton with Father Richard Allen officiating. An About Face troop from Rawhide Boys Ranch will present the colors at the beginning of the service. Entombment will be in Star of Hope Mausoleum, Appleton.
