    Obituary:
    Sally A. Berben, age 61, of Appleton, passed away at Cherry Meadows on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Sally was born on July 19, 1953, in Appleton, to the late Patrick and Marianne (Spierings) Berben. She was a graduate of Holy Angels Grade School in Darboy, Kimberly High School in 1971, and graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay in 1975 with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science. Sally began her career at the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton following her graduation from the University of Wisconsin, and was later employed at Integrated Paper Services (IPS), and retired as Lawrence University's Chemistry Department Laboratory Supervisor in August of 2013. During her career in chemistry, Sally authored and co-authored a number of technical papers. She enjoyed card making and stamping, was a cat lover, a skilled horseback rider, and an avid fan of audiobooks.

    Survivors include her siblings, Sue Berben, Sandy (Earl) Baumgart and Steve Berben; her nieces and nephews, Nick and Nicole Baumgart and Brittany, Mike and Dylan Berben. She is further survived by her cousin and special friend, Bob Opsteen and the many, many dear friends she made during her lifetime. Sally was preceded in death by her brothers, Dan and Marty, and her infant brother Joseph.

    Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Sally's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to her many physicians and caregivers, and to her many friends who comforted her during these past few difficult months. A memorial has been established in Sally's name to benefit the East Shore Humane Society in Chilton. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com

    Specialist Martin J. Berben, age 51, died on Friday, March 28, 2008, at the National Guard Armory in Oshkosh. Marty was born on October 30, 1956, in Appleton, to the late Patrick and Marianne (Spierings) Berben. He proudly served his country for over 19 years in the National Guard, serving recently in Kuwait and Iraq. Marty was an active National Guard member and was eagerly preparing to return to the Middle East to again serve his nation. Marty was well-known for his cooking abilities, especially for gatherings of friends.
    Survivors include his siblings: Sally Berben, Sue Berben, Sandy (Earl) Baumgart, and Steve (Barb) Berben; his nieces and nephews: Nick and Nicole Baumgart, and Brittanny, Mike, and Dylan Berben. Marty is further survived by many special friends.
    He was preceded in death by his brother Dan and an infant brother, Joseph.
    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 East Lourdes Drive, Appleton, with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name to benefit St. Joseph Food Pantry.
