    Biography:
LAWRENCE LUTZ, one of the proprietors of the largest ice business in Appleton, Wisconsin, which began in a small way and has steadily grown to its present large proportions, was born in 1860, in Ozaukee county, Wisconsin, a son of Lawrence and Fredericka (Bohne) Lutz, natives of Germany who came to this country when children. Lawrence Lutz the elder became a farmer in Kewaunee county, where he died January 16, 1909, and his widow still survives him and makes her home in Appleton. They had a family of seven children, as follows: Edward, who is engaged in farming in Calumet county; Lawrence; Sophia, who married Henry Koehne; Fred, who is residing in Kewaunee county; William, who is deceased; Ricke, who married August Becherich, a resident of Plymouth county; and Teresa, who married Edward Pfranz, of Edgar, Wisconsin. Edward Lutz came to Outagamie county in 1875, and here learned the blacksmith trade, later engaging in driving a team, and it was his glowing reports of the opportunities offered the ambitious young man in this section that persuaded Lawrence Lutz to locate in Outagamie county in 1877. In 1885 the brothers engaged in the ice business with Edward Weimer, and during the following year purchased his interests. The company now handles about 4,500 cords, or 15,000 tons of ice annually, employing eighteen men and using nine wagons, and the ice is cut from the pure spots of the Fox River and Lake Winnebago. In addition to doing the largest business of its kind in Appleton, the company engages to some extent in contracting, although the ice industry receives the most attention. Like other successful business ventures which have started in a small way, the success of this company may be traced to the persevering efforts of its proprietors and to the fact that they have gained the confidence of the community in their business integrity.
On May 27, 1882, Mr. Lutz was united in marriage with Hattie Graves, who was born in Waushara county, Wisconsin, daughter of R. H. Graves, and they have had two children: Orville, in business with his father; and Hazel, at home, both being graduates of the Appleton High School. The family is connected with the Congregational Church, and Mr. Lutz is a member of the Independent Order of Foresters, the Elks and the Harmony and Driving Clubs. He votes independently, and has never aspired to public office, preferring to give all of his time and attention to his business interests.

Lawrence married Bohne, Fredericka 5 Dec 1855, Kewaunee, Algoma, Wisconsin, USA. Fredericka was born 8 Oct 1832; died 3 Aug 1921, Edgar, Marathon, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet]

    Obituary:
Leo Fred Casey, 67, Larsen, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at his home after a long battle with smoking-induced COPD.
Leo was born July 26, 1946, to Leo J. and Fredrika (Lutz) Casey. He grew up in Appleton working at his parents' store, Casey's Junction Grocery, at Outagamie and second Streets. He graduated from Xavier High School in 1964 and earned an Associate's Degree in data processing from Fox Valley Tech in 1966. Soon after, he enlisted in the US Army, where he served until 1969, including a tour in Vietnam and time at Fort Ord, CA, where his father had been stationed during WWII.
After his honorable discharge, Leo reconnected with the former Rose Coffey in Milwaukee where they married in 1970. They returned to Appleton so Leo could continue his education, working full time and earning his Bachelors in Business Administration from UW-Oshkosh in 1977.
Leo started as an accountant with American Can, ultimately working at its Menasha ink plant, which would become M&T Chemicals. Promotions led him to Mobile, AL, in 1980, to help open a new manufacturing facility. He worked for M&T and its successors in Mobile until 1990, when the family returned to Appleton and Leo joined the JJ Plank Corp. He retired as the company's Vice President of Finance & Information Systems in 2008. In retirement, Leo enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family (especially his new baby grandson, Bryson), and many a laugh with his fun-loving neighbors in the Boom Bay area.
Survivors include his mother, Fredrika Casey, Appleton; children: Brian (Cheryl) Casey, Greenville and Caron (Todd) Clements, Neenah; one grandson, Bryson; two step-grandchildren: Cyrus and Stella; brothers and sisters: Patrick Casey, Appleton; Meg Casey, Appleton; Kathy Casey (Glenn Bechler), Appleton; Beth (Doug) Bucholtz, West Bloomfield and Steve casey, Seymour; former wife and friend, Rose Casey; nieces and nephews: Anne, Kelly, Kelena and Mark; two great nephews: Owen and Leonardo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo J. Casey.
According to Leo's wishes, there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of Leo's life will take place in the spring. A memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Drs. Robert Nonn and John Swanson, and the caring staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice. We'd also like to thank Dad's Boom Bay neighbors who spent time with him and helped take care of him for several years.
