    Ervin M. Brueggen, 79, of Cashton passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse.
    He was born July 26, 1931, on the family farm at St. Mary's Ridge to Henry and Mary (Butzler) Brueggen. Ervin was united in marriage to Frances Briggeman on Sept. 29, 1954, at Pine Hollow Catholic Church near Cashton.
    In his youth, Ervin had a love for farming. He farmed on St. Mary's Ridge with his wife and family until retiring in 1997 and moving to Cashton. He instilled honesty and strong work ethics to all of his children. Ervin always needed to be busy. With his gifted hands he made various woodworking gifts for each of his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He enjoyed giving rides to his Amish friends. He also loved baseball, playing cards and old-time music. He especially loved spending time with his family. One area he will always be remembered for was challenging his grandchildren with brain teaser puzzles. Ervin will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Blessed be the memories.
    He is survived by his wife, Frances; six children, Annette (Larry) Erickson of Sparta, Donna (Jeff) Bjornstad of Westby, Eugene (Judy) Brueggen of West Salem, son-in-law, Dan (Debby) Korn of Cashton, Daniel Brueggen of Cashton, Jo Ann (Darin) Von Ruden of Westby and Amy (Clint) Kramer of Cashton; 12 grandchildren, Craig (Kelly) Erickson, Derek (Rachel) Erickson, Jeremy (Kelley) Bjornstad, Justin Bjornstad, Janessa Bjornstad, Kaitlin Brueggen, Alexis Brueggen, Nick Korn, Brett Von Ruden, Alyssa Von Ruden, Lindsey Kramer and Natalie Kramer; five great-grandchildren, Carter and Kadynce Erickson, Evan Erickson and Judson and Kayte Madison Bjornstad; one brother, Norman (Bernice) Brueggen of Cashton; one sister, Mary Ann (Leslie) Leis of Cashton; and other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary; a daughter, Marlene Korn; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Korn; and two sisters, Alvera Hendersin and Betty Jane Donskey.
    Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at St. Mary's Ridge Catholic Church, St. Mary's Ridge. Father John Parr will officiate. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cashton. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Torkelson Funeral Home.
    Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton is assisting the family with arrangements.
