    Melvin Ziegenbein, age 82 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died unexpectedly Monday, January 2, 2012 following a brief illness.
    Memorial funeral services will be held Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Dennis Schueler officiating. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday from 12 Noon until the time of service at 1 P.M. A graveside inurnment service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 1 P.M. at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin with military rites.
    Melvin was born on June 26, 1929 in Seymour to Robert W. and Josie (Samson) Ziegenbein. He attended schools in Seymour, Hilbert and Chilton. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. On February 27, 1954, he married Shirley Birk at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells. He was a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. He was a past board member of the Seymour Community Historical Museum, a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7591 in Monona, and a longtime member of the Madison Motorcycle Club.
    He was a former employee of the State of Wisconsin, Department of Administration, and the Capitol Police in Madison. After retirement from state service he returned to Seymour and was employed by Huettl Bus, Inc. as a school bus driver.
    Survivors include his wife Shirley; two daughters: Bonnie Ziegenbein of Wisconsin Dells and Barbara Carpenter of DeForest; six grandchildren: Keith Sorenson of Madison, Cherie Sorenson ( Steve Hilliard) of Wausau; Matthew (Krystal) Carpenter of Deforest; Jennifer (Nickolas) Glidden of Texas, and Brianna Carpenter of Madison; five great grandchildren: Myles, Mason and Desiree Capps and Caden Melvin Hilliard and Jayden Matthew Carpenter; two sisters: Ethel (Wesley) Wheaton of Hilbert; Janet (Earl) Schuh of Florida; one niece: Brenda (Scott) Martin and her family of Appleton. He is also survived by his wife's sisters: Doris Bennin and Norma Goeser of Reedsburg and nieces: Chris (Mike) Tubman of Reedsburg, Virginia (Bob) Ames, of Alabama and Rita (Dick) Van Dalen, of Florida and their families.
    He is further survived by aunts: Ruth Hoffmann of Green Bay and Fran Samson & Agnes Samson of Seymour, and cousins who he loved dearly and who hold special spots on the branches of his family tree; including two special cousins, Hazel Stark of Pulaski and Alvin (Lenore) Ziegenbein of DePere.
    H was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ziegenbein, his mother and stepfather, Jo and Reuben Kleinsmith; an infant son, an infant daughter, a nephew, Timothy Schuh; his mother and father-in-law, Matthew and Belle Birk; two brothers-in-law: Frank Goeser & John Bennin; his godfathers, Ed & Harold Ziegenbein and his godmother, Florence Maass.
