    Rose A. Strassmann, age 92, of New Holstein died Thursday April 16, 2009 at her home.
    She was born June 8, 1916 in Sherwood a daughter of the late Frank & Mathilda (Kern) Portmann.
    Rose had to quit school at an early age after her mother died to raise her little brother and help on the family farm.
    On November 18, 1936 she married Elmer C. Strassmann in Chilton; he preceded her in death on March 1, 2000. The couple was married for 63 years.
    In addition for caring for her home, Rose had worked at the A. T. Hipke Canning Company for several years.
    In the late 1930's Rose belonged to the Modern Woodmen. She earned 3 state and 1 district trophy for marksmanship.
    Rose and her husband, Elmer, joined St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein on April 7, 1944 where she was still a current member.
    Survivors include a brother, Joseph (Frances) Portmann of Kaukauna; a sister, Leona Woods Steffens of Little Chute; nieces, nephews, her good friends, Millie and Marvin Thielman and other relatives and friends.
    Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Elmer; 2 sisters, Sylvia and Lucy and 3 brothers, Andrew, Norman and Ervin.
    Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday April 18, 2009 at St. John United Church of Christ 2111 Church Street New Holstein. Rev. James E. Werner, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Appleton.
    Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services.
    Memorials in Rose's name may be directed to St. John United Church of Christ.
    A special thank you to Rachel with Affinity Hospice for all her wonderful and compassionate care, to the St. John church members and to Rose's family, friends and neighbors for all their support.
