They had no children, but raised John's nephew, Myron (Mike) Ebben. Jo hn and Lauretta famred on VanAsten Rd, the first farm on the left, ea st of County Road J. They sold the farm to Roland Grode around 1945 and m oved to Freedom, with John working inAppleton. He was killed on his way to work in a car accident caused by sl ippery road conditions at the present intersection of OO and E. OO w as 41 at that time. His car slid into the rear wheels of a semi, causi ng the car to spin around, throwing John from the car.

John married Scheibe, Lauretta 30 May 1922. Lauretta (daughter of Scheibe, Edward J. and Rickert, Elizabeth) was born 10 Apr 1897, Freedom, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA; died 8 Jan 1962, Green Bay, Brown, Wisconsin, USA; was buried Aft 8 Jan 1962, St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery, Freedom, Wisconsin, USA.
