Kuhn Will Face Second Degree Murder Charge Frank Pleckham, Beaten in Tavern Fight, Dies INQUEST CALLED Judge Ryan Signs New Warrant Against Nichols Man A warrant charging Mike Kuhn, Nichols, with murder in the second degree was drawn today by Raymond P. Dohr, district attorney, following the death at 7 o'clock yesterday morning of Frank Pleckham, 40, town of Black Creek, who was beaten up in Kuhn's tavern last Thursday night Municipal Judge Thomas H. Ryan signed the warrant this afternoon. Tentative plans were made to arraign Kuhn, who Saturday in municipal court pleaded not guilty of assault to do great bodily harm to Pleckham, on the murder charge this afternoon. Kuhn was freed Satur- day on 52,000 bond. Kuhn, it is said, attacked Pleckham about 8 o'clock Thursday night in the former's tavern, claiming the man molested Kuhn's wife. Pleckham was found lying unconscious on the floor of the tavern by Carl Krull, Nichols constable, who brought him to the county jail. Pleckham was removed to St. Elizabeth hospital the following morning. He died without regaining consciousness. Sheriff John Lappen was told that Kuhn shook Pleckham several times after knocking him down. Constable Krull stated that Kuhn shook Pleckham after the constable had arrived and also struck the unconscious man after he was placed in a car to he brought to Appleton. An inquest has been called by the district attorney, and members of the coroner's jury viewed the victim's body Sunday. Members of the jury are Nick Green. Charles Heusemann. Royal Tomack, Aaron Zer- bel. Joseph Drexler and John GiIlespie. Pleckham was born in Appleton Sept 30, 1898. A farm laborer, he worked in recent years in the Bear Creek and Shiocton areas. He was a World war veteran. Survivors are the widow; the step-father, James Flynn, Shiocton; one half-brother, Edward Flynn, Shiocton.
