Obituary:
John Thomas Hertel, age 79, of Chilton, died on Monday, November 12, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born June 19, 1928, in Chilton, son of the late Chris and Irene (Endries) Hertel. He married Romilda Friederichs on October 30, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chilton. John served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he farmed in the town of Chilton for over 40 years.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the American Legion. He was an avid sports fan especially of the Green Bay Packers. He loved the outdoors, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife Romilda; children: Charles (Mary) Hertel of Oshkosh, WI; Mark (Laura) Hertel of Columbus, OH; Laurie (Darrell) Frank of Menomonee Falls, WI; Beth (Daniel) Uselmann of Carmel, IN; and Ellen Hertel of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren: Jessica and Brady Hertel of Oshkosh, WI; Sarah Bice and John and Erica Hertel of Columbus, OH; Chris, Ryan, and Ashley Uselmann of Carmel, IN; and Lindsey, Natalee, T.K., and Eric Frank of Menomonee Falls.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Colonel Retired Edward Hertel and Robert Hertel.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton, with the Rev. Bob Kollath officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St., Chilton) from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2007, and on Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. when family prayers will be held. A Parish Vigil Service will be held Sunday evening at 7:45 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in John's name for the American Diabetes Foundation.
