    Obituary:
    Bonnie Mae Metz, Neenah, 65, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She had battled cancer with grace, courage, and humor since the beginning of the year. Bonnie was born in Appleton on April 7, 1942, daughter of the late Joseph Vanden Broek and Cecelia Abel. She was raised in Kaukauna where she enjoyed ice skating and playing with her sisters and friends in the area that is now the Thousand Islands Environmental Center. She graduated from Menasha High School. On April 4, 1964, she married the love of her life, Robert Metz in Neenah. Bonnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Bonnie enjoyed camping with her husband, trout fishing with her son, sharing the joys of motherhood with her daughter, and baking and doing art and craft projects with her five grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, especially if a campfire, walk or hike was involved. Bonnie was employed for several years in the floral department of Larry's Piggly Wiggly. She will be missed by all who knew her.
    Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Robert Metz; one daughter, Lori Scruton, Neenah; one son, Todd Metz, Herndon, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Heather Metz; five grandchildren, Mikayla and Julia Scruton, and Audreya, Natalie, and Nicole Metz; two sisters, JoAnn (Ken) Robel, Kaukauna, and Darlene (Robert) Lipske, Lake Mills; one brother, Scott (DeAnn) Abel, Germantown. Additional survivors are sisters-in-law, Barbara Vanden Broek, Combined Locks and Peggy (Clarence) Fredrick, Oshkosh; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
    Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Duane Vanden Broek.
    Funeral services for Bonnie will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 1228 South Park Avenue, Neenah, with the Rev. Terry Ahlemeyer officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Westgor Funeral Home, Neenah and on Wednesday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in her name.
    The family would like to thank the nurses and volunteers at Cherry Meadows Hospice for their compassionate care, love and support. You have touched our hearts as mom has touched yours. The family would also like to thank the many friends whose visits, cards, and prayers gave Bonnie strength and happiness in her final months on earth.
    She asked that this poem be included in her obituary as a message to all those she cared about and cared about her:
    When I am gone,
    release me, let me go ...
    I have so many things
    to see and do.
    You mustn't tie
    yourself to me with tears;
    be happy we had
    so many years.
    I gave to you my Love,
    you can only guess
    how much you gave
    to me in Happiness.
    I thank you for the love
    you each have shown
    but now it's time
    I traveled on alone.
    To grieve a while
    for me if grieve you must;
    then let your grief
    be comforted by trust.
    It's only for a while that
    we must part,
    so bless the memories
    within your heart.
    I won't be far away,
    for life goes on;
    so if you need me,
    call and I will come.
    Though you can't see me
    or touch me,
    I'll be near
    and if you listen
    with your heart,
    you will hear,
    all of my Love around you
    soft and clear.
    And then, when you must
    come this way alone,
    I'll greet you with a smile
    and welcome you home.
