Obituary:
James L. Carpenter, 60, Appleton, passed away peacefully November 30, 2008, at his home with his family by his side. James was born October 17, 1948, in Oshkosh, son of Burton Carpenter and Helen Criddle. He married his best friend and the love of his life Laurie Hartman on April 27, 1968, in Oshkosh. James worked for the Division of Corrections for the State of Wisconsin; he retired in 2000 after 37 years of service. He brought respect and integrity to each position he held, and was well liked by all. James loved fishing, golfing, laughing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved life and had a wonderful sense of humor.
James is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laurie; sons: Ryan (Sandy) Carpenter and Tim (Amy) Carpenter; parents: Burton (Agnes) Carpenter and mother Helen Criddle; grandchildren: Jake, Max, Drew and Zach.
A memorial service for James will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Mackville with Fr. Mark Vander Steeg and Fr. William Van De Kreeke officiating. Visitation will be at 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at Valley Funeral Home, and again at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to thank the Oncology staff at UW Hospital, Dr. Tom Halliquist, and nurse Tami from Affinity Hospice for their care and compassion.
