    Obituary:
Larry Behrent, 81, Appleton, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the Appleton Medical Center. Larry was born March 16, 1927, in Appleton, son of the late Edwin and Margaret (Roland) Behrent. He served his country during World War II as a faithful member of the United States Navy, and on April 19, 1947, married the former Betty Peters at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. He was a longtime member of the Johnston-Blessman Post #38 of the American Legion and the Harvey Pierre Post #2778 of the VFW. For over twenty years, Larry worked as a carpet installer for H.C. Prange Company in Appleton, but when Prange's discontinued selling carpet, he needed to find new work. He found it in the maintenance department of the Appleton City Hall, and worked there another fifteen years. He was the Sergeant at Arms for County Board meetings and was also a deputy sheriff for twenty-five years. In his free time, Larry enjoyed fishing, locksmithing, and working on any kind of construction project.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Behrent, Appleton; three children, Jim Behrent, Kaukauna; Debbie (Paul) Jacobs, Menasha; and John (Robin) Behrent, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Jessica and Sarah Jacobs, Ashley and Amanda Behrent, and Samantha, Hollie, and Alex Behrent; two sisters, Margaret Rice, Appleton and Helen (Ray) Bartkowiak, Stevens Point. Larry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons David Behrent and Mark Behrent, a sister Cecilia Weiles, a brother Edwin "Bud" (Gen) Behrent, and a brother-in-law Stan Rice.
The funeral service for Larry will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton with Rev. George Detweiler of First English Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank two of Larry's dear friends, Lonn Finger and Phil Weiland, for their support, friendship, and companionship over the years. Larry thought the world of you and we wanted you to know how much you meant to him.
