    Obituary:
    Ronald Edmund Locklin, 76, Sherrills Ford, N.C., passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009. He was born on Sept. 24, 1933, in Appleton, Wis., to the late Howard and Elsie Wickeham Locklin. He was a 1951 graduate of Appleton West High School. Ron captained his high school football, basketball and track teams and was named All-Conference and All-State as an End in football. He was also All-Conference in basketball and the Conference high jump champ in track.
    He went to the University of Wisconsin where he earned BBA and MBA degrees and lettered in football and baseball. He also played in the 1953 Rose Bowl and was later the sixth round draft choice of the New York Giants football team in 1955. He was commissioned as an army officer in 1956, after his college ROTC training and later attained the rank of Captain in the Army Reserves.
    Ron worked at the Janesville, Wis., General Motors plant as a Labor Relations Representative for ten years prior to moving to Florida in 1969 and becoming the Personnel Manager for the West Co. in St. Petersburg, Fla. He then worked as an Employment Manager at Anheuser-Busch's Tampa and Jacksonville, Fla., breweries for 18 years prior to his retirement. He moved to North Carolina in 1993.
    Ron married UW graduate, Shirley Hadler, on Feb. 27, 1960, and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010.
    He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Linda, Lisa, Jon and wife, Stephanie, Don and wife, Brenda, and Tom; grandchildren, Rebecca, Matthew, Savanna, and Caleigh; and his two older brothers, Stu and Maurice.
    A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Johnny Cozart officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the family life center.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 454 Fieldstone Road, Mooresville, N.C., 28115, and/or the Mooresville Soup Kitchen, 275 S. Broad Street, Mooresville, N.C., 28115.
