    Obituary:
Curtis Bengel, 34, of Neenah passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital following a courageous 18-month battle with Leukemia. Curt was born on May 12, 1976, in Fond du Lac, the son of Donald and Sharon (Peters) Bengel of Appleton. Curt was a 1995 graduate of Appleton East High School. He was a carpenter by trade and had a true passion for his craft. He worked for Arcways, Inc. (Neenah), a custom staircase builder. Curt is now building staircases in Heaven. After being diagnosed with Leukemia in 2009, Curt had a B+ attitude and truly followed the motto of "One day at a time." He was a true inspiration, and his faith was an example for all to endure. His struggle was long, but his attitude was strong, and Curt was determined not to let this bring him down.
Curt had a true love for his wife, Kat; his children, family, and friends; as well as his love of fishing (but not always in that order...). His laughter and sense of humor will be greatly missed by many. Those who knew him or only know his story will be changed forever by his spirit of persistence, determination, and faith.
Survivors include his wife Katherine (Alferi) Bengel, children Emma and Evan. His parents: Donald and Sharon Bengel (Peters). His brothers Andrew (sister-in-law Jennifer) Bengel , and Daniel Bengel. His nieces: Sophie and Malaya Bengel and Zoey Kim, and his nephew Greyson Bengel; as well as his maternal grandmother, Virginia Peters. He was also very much considered a brother by his sisters-in-law: Susan Fox (Alferi) and Margaret Alferi and brothers-in-law: Daniel Fox and Eugene Kim.
The Christian Funeral for Curt will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, 2010, at 5 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church in Neenah, with Dr. Harry Shields officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the hour of service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for his children's education.
Our family would like to send our deepest thanks to Dr. Timothy Goggins and the amazing staff at St. Elizabeth hospital that made us feel like we were at home. We would also like to thank Dr. Walter Longo and his staff at UW hospital for their dedication to us.
