    Bongers, Donald JosephDonald Joseph Bongers, born in Green Bay, died in Jacksonville, Fla., on D ec. 8, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital at the age of 85. Don attended St. Nor bert College and graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy, San Francisc o, and served on American President Lines before, during and after WWII. A lthough he earned his captain's license he enjoyed first-mate duties. He s ailed on the first commissioned American trade ship from NYC to Indo-Chi na after the Dutch ships ceased. Returning to Wisconsin, he worked as a ma il carrier for the Green Bay Post Office. Don shared his interest in the H enry George Association with his sons.He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, June Robinson Bongers. D on will be missed very much by his five sons: Don's stepson, Rev. Howard M ajor III in New Paltz, N.Y., Jacob in Syracuse, N.Y., Allen W. in Jacksonv ille, Fla., and Karl and Ralph in Minneapolis, Minn. Don also leaves six g randchildren: Kelly and Alex from Jacksonville; Kayla, Austin and Cory fr om Minneapolis; and Helen from London Grove, Penn.; nephews Gary Bonger s; in-laws June Robinson, Joyce Miller, Grace and Ken Bouschart, Tom and A rita Robinson and Dan and Cindy Robinson.A memorial service was held in Jacksonville, officiated by Rev. Howard Maj or III.

    Obituary:
    Gary Bongers, 76, of De Pere, passed away Saturday December 26, 2015 at a local hospital. The son of the late Gordon and Mary Alice (O'Connell) Bongers was born June 19, 1939 in Green Bay. He married Mary Bowman on August 27, 1971.
    Gary was a 1958 graduate of West High School. He served twenty seven years on the Brown County Sheriff's Department and retired in 1994 with rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed all sports and remained active throughout his entire life, participating in golf, bowling, fishing, softball, and volleyball. Gary was extremely handy and passed his skills of fixing things along to his family. He could fix anything and if there was not a part available, he would manufacture it. He was a lifelong automobile and motorcycle enthusiast. Gary was a great Dad and loving, patient Grandfather "Papa". He and Mary enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida.
    Survivors include his wife, Mary, children and grandchildren, Jared and Erin Bongers, (Jackson and Alivia), Chip and Katie Bongers (Carley), Craig and Tonya Marks, (Morgann and Clay), Tim Bongers (Dylan), Bill and Jody Bongers (Alex), Rochelle Eisner (Bryce), Richard and Jill De Muth (Jason, Tyler and Tracey), one sister, Susan Williams, nieces and nephews, Kathy, Paul, John and Julie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Robert, Joseph, and La Verne,and brother-in-law, Dan Williams.
    Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME. 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 2:00 to 5:30 pm Tuesday December 29, 2015. Funeral service will be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the Bongers family.
