    Obituary:
    Hermsen, Eugene J.
Eugene J. Hermsen passed away at the age of 80, in his home in Yuma, Ariz., on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008.
He was born July 24, 1927. Eugene served our country during World War II in both the Merchant Marines and the Army.
After his discharge, Gene married Bernice Clara Lemmen on Jan. 24, 1948. They settled in Green Bay, Wis., and Gene worked at Fort Howard Paper Company for 39 years, retiring in 1987.
He was very proud to have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just a few days before his passing. Eugene's life was driven by a passion for travel. His time in the military gave him "rambling feet" and road trips became the family's favorite vacations.
In 1985, Gene and Bernice sold their house, bought a motor home, and set out to live a life of travel. Their travels took them to all 50 states and 13 different countries. Gene touched the lives of many friends along the way. Gene and Bernice eventually settled down in Yuma, Ariz., for the winters and spent the summers in Wisconsin with their family. Gene was adored by his family for the loving example he had set for them. The love that exists between the families of Gene's children is his greatest legacy.
Eugene is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Bernice; his seven children and their spouses, Judy and Tom Fogarty, Carol and Wayne Parma, Nancy and David Krajewski, Terrie and Gerry LaLuzerne, Russ and Lynn Hermsen, Ali and Kevin Kirchman, Sandy and Larry Kiehnau; 12 grandchildren, Kelly (Nick) Wiley, Chad (Jenny) Fogarty, Leah (Keith) Shulfer, Joshua (Melanie) Parma, Brent (Jessica) Krajewski, Brandon Krajewski, Adam LaLuzerne, Tara (Tim) Schneider, Zachary Hermsen, Lucy Hermsen, Ben Kiehnau, and Kendra Kiehnau; as well as nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Lee Hermsen.
His passing was preceded by his sister, Ruth Stoneburner, and his brother, Richard Hermsen.
Friends are invited to remember and celebrate Gene's life at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Toyne officiating. To send online condolences, please go to www.blaneyfuneralhome.com.
A memorial fund has been established.
Eugene's family would like to acknowledge the Hospice of Yuma and all the special caretakers who gave their time and support in his time of need.
Our prayers will be with Gene as his travels continue.
