    Obituary:
Alva West Chilton Times November 11, 1916
A message was received in this city Wednesday bringing news of the death of Alva D. West at the home of his son, E. S. West, at Omro on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 7th, at the remarkable age of ninety-five years, three months and fourteen days. Notwithstanding his advanced years, Mr. West had been in fairly good health up to some five weeks ago when he was stricken with paralysis and since that time he failed gradually until death came.
Alva D. West was born in Williamstown, N.Y., July 24, 1821. He grew to manhood and remained in his native town for many years, being married there in 1848 to Mary Newell. From this union six children were born, two of whom still survive. Edw. S. West of Omro and Mrs. Oliver Yule of Appleton. In the spring of 1864 the deceased brought his family to Wisconsin and they settled on a farm in Chilton town, two miles north and a half mile west of this city, on the farm now owned by Claudius Schmitt. In 1877 his wife died and he was married for the second time to Charlena Spink, moving to this city were they made their home until his wife died in 1912, since which time he has resided with his son in Omro.
The passing of Mr. West will be regretted by his old friends and neighbors who esteemed him as a man of kindly nature, friendly and warm hearted. While a resident of this community he was known to old and young and was loved and respected by them all. He was broad minded and neighborly, always looking for an opportunity to do good for others. While his life was not an eventful one it was one of character and those who emulate it will never be far from right living.
The body was escorted to this city Friday by relatives and friends and take from the train to the family lot in the Breed cemetery where they were laid at rest. Besides a son, Edw. S. West, and a daughter, Mrs. Oliver Yule, he is survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren
