    Mark Rohan who is quartermaster first-class on a sub chaser, returned home Sunday after being honorably discharged. He was in the Army 3 1/2 years, 2 1/2 years of which he spent in the Pacific area.

    Obituary:
    Mark Joseph Rohan, of Penn Valley, CA, died February 9 in Grass Valley, CA. He was 92.
    Mr. Rohan was born on April 25, 1916, in Kaukauna, WI, to William M. Rohan and Mary Golden. Mark attended Kaukauna High School and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He served as First Class Quartermaster on a sub chaser in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II. He married his wife, Dolores (Biselx) Rohan, on June 23, 1941, in Kaukauna, WI.
    Mr. Rohan worked as a partner at a car dealership, then as an insurance broker. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and a variety of golf clubs. He enjoyed golf, bridge, square dancing, bowling, swimming and traveling the world.
    Mr. Rohan is survived by his wife, Dolores of Penn Valley; daughters and sons-in-law: Sheila and Dave Karlson of Livermore, CA, and Colleen and Gregor Guy-Smith of The Hague, Holland; son, Timothy Rohan of Clayton, CA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and eight brothers and sisters.
    Services were held at St. Canice Catholic Church on Saturday, February 21, in Nevada City, CA.

    Leo J. Rohan
    Akron, Ohio Formerly of Kaukauna, died November 1, 2000, in Stow, Ohio, at the a ge of 78. Leo was born in Kaukauna on May 12, 1922, son of the late Willi am and Mamie (Golden) Rohan. He married the former Mary J. Brandt and t he couple has resided in the Akron area for the past thirty-six years. Dur ing those years, Leo owned and operated the Rohan Vending Company and w as a member of the Silver Lake Country Club. Many Kaukauna residents wi ll remember Leo for his beautiful singing voice. He also enjoyed golfing a nd magic. He is survived by his wife, Mary Rohan, Akron, Ohio; a son, L ee (Vicky) Rohan, Akron; a daughter, Kerry (Louis) Prpich, Akron; four gra nddaughters, Cortney Rohan, Ryan Prpich, Erin Prpich and Emma Prpich; thr ee brothers, Mark (Dolores) Rohan, California; Clifford (Aileen) Rohan, Ph oenix, Arizona; Victor (Helen) Rohan, Madison; a sister, Elaine (Bob) Volk mann, California. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin; brothers, Will iam, John, Emmett and Roy; and a sister, Helen Coffey. The funeral litur gy for Leo will be 4 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2000, at HOLY CROSS CATH OLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jim Lucas officiati ng. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call direct ly at the church on Friday from 2 p.m. until the hour of the service. A me morial fund in Leo's name has been established.

    Elaine Margaret Mary Volkmann passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2009, after losing a brief battle with cancer. She was born on July 25, 1924, and raised on the family farm outside of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, the youngest of 10 children of William and Mary Rohan. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an X-ray Technician. On August 1, 1953, Elaine married Robert Carl Volkmann and they soon settled in Neenah, Wisconsin, where they raised their family of five sons and were active in the local community. She was employed by Kimberly-Clark Corporation in the Executive Health Center.
    Upon retirement, they moved to Penn Valley, California, to be closer to family, and ultimately relocated to Grand Junction, Colorado, where she enjoyed the last ten years of her life.
    She was preceded in death by her eight brothers and a sister.
    Survivors include her husband, Robert; sons: Tim (Peggy), Santa Cruz, California; Thomas (Susan) and Andrew (Janine) of Grand Junction, Colorado; John (Denise), Austin, Texas; and Eric (Sheila), Madison, Wisconsin; 12 grand-children: Katie, Matthew, Ryan, Tyler, Lauren, Peter, Danielle, Megan, Rachel, Ben, Rohan, and Caitlin.
    Funeral services will include a rosary on Thursday, February 19, at 7 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary followed by a mass at 10 a.m. Friday, February 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the LiveStrong Foundation.

    Barry Emmet Rohan, a newspaper reporter who worked at major US newspapers in Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit in a nearly 40 year career, died the morning of May 31, 2013 in Grosse Pointe, MI, after emergency surgery. He was 76.
    Born on October 12, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Emmet and Renee Rohan, Barry would spend most of his youth and adolescence in and around Kaukauna, Wisconsin, where he graduated from Kaukauna High School. After graduation, he served in the army as a morse code radio operator in the Philippines. During that time he had many adventures including leaves in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
    After his discharge from the army, he attended and graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, with a degree in journalism. His first job was at the Waukesha Freeman and after a stint with the Milwaukee Sentinel, he became a copy editor and features writer at the Chicago Tribune.
    In Chicago he met his wife, Kathryn Hannan, where they married on June 18, 1966. Soon after the young couple moved to Minneapolis, where Barry was a reporter with the Minneapolis Tribune and later worked as a speech writer for Dayton-Hudson. It was in Minneapolis they had their two children, Elizabeth and Brendan.
    In 1975, the family moved to Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. Barry was a business news and science writer for the Detroit Free Press from 1975 until 1998 with a few lost years due to a contentious labor dispute. As a business reporter, he developed a column about Michigan's small businesses.
    In the 1980s, he researched and wrote an extensive family history that ultimately connected distant cousins in Ireland and the United States.
    Barry also wrote a definitive history of his grandfather, Barry Conners, a successful playwright and one of the first screenwriters in Hollywood. The article, 'My Grandfather's Trunk,' was published in an essay collection his daughter co-edited and played a part in a revival of Conners' 1925 comedy 'The Patsy' in 2011 by the Transport Group in New York City.
    After his retirement, he was a tutor in an adult literacy program. And together with his dog Pippi J, he visited patients at the Michigan Rebilitation Center and participated in the Reader Dog Program at the Grosse Pointe Library.
    He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathryn Rohan, two children, Elizabeth, of St Clair Shores, MI and Brendan, of New York City; grandson, Conor Curran; sister, Mary Anne Garrity, of Prairie Du Chien, WI and brothers Sean Rohan, of Kaukauna, WI and the late Michael Rohan.

    KaukaunaAge 60, passed away early Sunday morning, January 7, 2001, at the Applet on Medical Center, following a brief illness. Michael was born in Applet on on March 11, 1940, son of the late Emmet Rohan and Renee (Conners) Roh an of Kaukauna. He was currently employed by Goodwill Industries in Menash a. Michael is survived by his mother, Renee Rohan, of Kaukauna; two brothers, Sean (Therese) Rohan, of Kaukauna, and Barry (Kathy) Rohan, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan; a sister, Mary Ann (Dr. Michael) Garrity of Pra irie du Chien; and by eight nieces and nephews. His father, Emmet Rohan, p receded him in death in 1976. A memorial funeral liturgy for Michael wi ll be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at HOLY CROSS CATHOL IC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officia ting. Inurnment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna. Friends may ca ll at the church on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the hour of the liturgy.
