    Obituary:
Robert James Courtney, age 99, of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday morning, January 26, 2014, at the Horizon Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon, Wisconsin. Robert was born on October 6, 1914 in Kaukauna, the son of the late Michael and Lena (Green) Courtney. Robert graduated from Lawrence University in 1941 with a degree in chemistry. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1940 and became a flying cadet and served as a navigator during World War II, retiring in 1974 as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He really wanted to pursue a graduate degree after leaving active duty, but his children came first. He joined Combined Locks Paper Mill in Kaukauna, Wisconsin in 1946, retiring in February of 1979 as the Pulp Mill and Wood Yard Superintendent. However, education remained very important to him and he made sure that all of his children completed at least a bachelor's degree, and several pursued advanced degrees.
Robert loved gardening and maintained a huge vegetable garden, the produce from which he shared with his family - except for the corn - that he shared with the raccoons who always scaled the fence and ate it the night before he was going to pick it. He spent much of his free time at his cottage on the Fox River - first teaching his children, nieces and nephews, and their many friends how to water ski (with some time allocated for the "over 50 age" group), and then canoeing and pontooning up and down the river seeking out the wild life and rescuing fallen timbers from the water. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1033 since 1936. He was also a Green Bay Packer owner and attended the first Super Bowl as well as the Ice Bowl.
Robert will be lovingly remembered by his surviving children and step-children: Jim (Ann) Courtney, Matthew Courtney, Thomas (Linda Anderson-Courtney) Courtney, Daniel (Gale) Courtney, John (Ginnie) Courtney, Eileen Courtney, Robert (Mary McPhail) Courtney, Pat Westphal, Mary (Tim) Peterson, and Joe (Cindy) May, and son-in-law Marvin (JoeAnn) Weber. His grandchildren are numerous and include Kathy (Rich) Chioni, Susan Weber, Christopher (Carly) Courtney, Michael (Danielle) Courtney, Sarah (Jeremiah) Brooks, Marie (Dan) LaVelle, Ryan Courtney, Michael Courtney, Max Courtney, Ann (Bill) Fleischman, Sarah Westphal, Samantha May, Jamie May, Raquel (Edward) West, John H. (Amy) Briggs, Jessup Roerig, and Stacey (Pete) Mitchell. He was also the proud grandfather of handfuls of great-grandchildren. And thanks to the Courtney, Biersteker, and Kelley nieces and nephews and other friends and relatives, much joy was added to his life.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille (Killian) in 1956, his second wife, Ethel (May) in 1998, his daughters Jane Courtney and Margaret (Weber), brothers Melvin and John, and sisters Margaret, Frances, Lucille and Eileen.
A memorial funeral liturgy for Robert will be held at 11:00 AM on SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna. Fr. A Veterans Day Story - 2013
Last week I attended the funeral of my Aunt Eileen Biersteker. She was a remarkable woman and great mother. She had obtained her nursing degree and joined the Army during WWII. She was assigned to General Patton's division. The general was known for moving fast and keeping the enemy on the run. One of the problems with moving fast was that it left the Medical Corps far behind. Patton changed the policy by having the doctors and nurses near the front lines. That is where the newly commissioned Lt. Eileen Courtney found herself. After the war she married Neil Biersteker and they raised eight children together. She was a nurse all her life. Her war experiences were remembered in her letters home which were kept by her parents. She closed each letter home with "Love Eileen". Her children have placed the letters in a book named "Love Eileen" keeping her war year memories alive. Most of the soldiers she treated are no longer living, but their decedent's number in the thousands. A few years ago 60 minutes did a story about soldiers from WWII and interviewed a man who was captured and held prisoner by the Germans. Eileen was watching this broadcast with friends at her home in Kaukauna. The old soldier talked about being taken to a field hospital once he was freed. He mentioned the care he received and especially the wonderful nurses. He said he had made a bracelet while he was in the prison camp and he gave it to the wonderful nurse that cared for him. Eileen walked into her bedroom and returned with the bracelet.

Richard "Dick" Gloudemans passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012, after being diagnosed with cancer just last week.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 511 S. Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Monday, October 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. Fr. Michael J. Erwin will officiate. Friends may gather with the family at church on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Richard Edward Andrew Gloudemans was born on February 7, 1929, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, to Andrew and Elfie (Abendroth) Gloudemans. He moved to Appleton, with his family and he graduated from Appleton West High School in 1947. Dick began working for the Telephone Company and through work, he came back to Beaver Dam, where he met the love of his life, Helen Drexler. They were married in Beaver Dam in 1950, then lived in Appleton and California before settling in Beaver Dam. They raised five children, Charles (Valerie), Thomas (special friend Lil), Joseph (special friend Julie), Lisa (John) Williams, and Chris (Bill) Berger. After 35 years with the Telephone Company, Dick retired. He served as union president of the C.W.A. and was an active member. He volunteered at church in several ways through the years including paper drives, men's service, Knights of Columbus, and the Big Event. He supported the Apostolate to the Handicapped and attended the services yearly. He enjoyed doing things himself and he could build or fix anything. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He made many trips to Canada along with brother-in-law Carl Ebben (deceased), children, and grandchildren. He was an avid swimmer, ski-jumper, skater and boater. He taught hundreds to water ski and built hydroplanes and ice boats to skim Beaver Dam Lake. Dick was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and also loved to play cribbage with family and friends. He enjoyed his dear friends from card club and bowling. He loved to travel and went to Mexico yearly; he also traveled to Jamaica, California, Florida, the East Coast, and up north for the famous "Krivitz" weeks. Dick enjoyed hosting parties including fish boils and pig roasts. He will be sadly missed by his many friends. Dick also volunteered at CWCAC in Wisconsin Dells, where he served in the Food Pantry; he also volunteered here in Beaver Dam each month for the 2nd Harvest mobile pantry. He dearly loved his grandchildren and adored his great-grandchildren. He will be mourned by his grandchildren, Sarah Gloudemans (Bill Johnson), Zachary Gloudemans, Katie (Tim) Homan, Ryan Williams, Mason Gloudemans, Ben Williams, Isaac Berger, Jacob Williams, and Thomson Gloudemans; his great-grandchildren, Alizah Gloudemans, Tristen Homan, Aurora Homan, Grace Johnson, and Ellie Homan.
Dick loved this area and enjoyed watching the lake from his home - a special thanks to his neighbors, including Laura and Bruce and Judy and Greg, for making his years without Helen easier and more fun.
He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brother, Jim (Joyce) Gloudemans, sister-in-law, Flora (Mel) Ayers, and his many friends. He will also be sadly missed by all his nieces and nephews and their families. He will be remembered as loving and generous, always with an open door and fishing pole ready! Obituary:
William George Fischer, 80 of Appleton died Saturday August 23, 2014 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Marshfield, WI; February 11, 1934, son of the late Lee and Mathilda (Gloudemans) Fischer. Bill married Janet (Olm) on October 5, 1957. Throughout their 57 years together, Bill and Janet were a successful team, through good times or when faced with a challenge, they both relied and believed in each other.
Bill and Janet were both Appleton High School Alumni "class of 1952". He played football, ran track, and was all state in his senior year. Bill was a retailer to his soul. A true "people" person, he enjoyed having a conversation with anyone whom was open to receiving his kind smile. He began his career working at Gloudemans Department Store. He and Janet started their own adventure and built a wonderful business, Fischers Boyswear in downtown Appleton. For many years, Fischers was the Levi jean capital of Wisconsin. Bill was very proud of his involvement in organizing the downtown Appleton Christmas parade. For many years Bill walked next to the Santa float, enjoying all the smiling faces on College Avenue. He took special pride at being the Grand Marshall of the parade on two occasions. Bill's family were his closest friends. His greatest pride were his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. They were all perfect in his eyes, and could do nothing wrong.
    Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet; his two children, son Steven (Melanie) Fischer, and daughter Lisa (Marty) Knuppel; five grandchildren, Allison (Kurtis) Belongea, Brittney Fischer, Jacob Knuppel, Anna Fischer, and Alexandra Fischer; sister, Joan Giuliani; and brother Raymond (Carol) Fischer; sister-in-law, Carol Fischer; brother-in-law, Ken (Shawn) Olm; his close friend, J.R. Olm; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was further preceded in death by his granddaughter, Payton Lynn Fischer; nephew, David Jack; three brothers, Jack, Michael and Charles Fischer; sister, Mary Ann Jack; brothers-in-law, Walter Laes, Joseph Giuliani, Paul Jack, and Robert Olm; and sister-in-law, Catherine Olm;

    Obituary:
Mary Courtney, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday morning, November 6, 2014. She was surrounded by those she loved and by those who loved her. Mary was born in that same home on March 31, 1943, daughter of the late John and Ann (Ellenbecker) Courtney. She was a 1962 graduate of Kaukauna High School, and also received her training to be a Licensed Practical Nurse at Fox Valley Technical Institute. Her clinical training was received at Theda Clark Medical Center. Most of her years as an LPN were spent at the Kaukauna Community Hospital, and later at St. Paul Manor in Kaukauna. Even in her retirement, she continued to care for and minister to countless friends and neighbors. She was so generous with her time and her love - that will forever be her legacy. Mary was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, its Queen of Peace Choir, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and the Extension Chords. She truly loved her music, as well as reading, and making rosaries which were sent to missions around the world.
Mary is survived by her loving brothers and sister: Michael (Judy) Courtney of Appleton; Patrick (Vicki) Courtney of Green Bay; and Ellen Courtney of Kaukauna; her six dear nieces: Kathleen (Marv) Sultze, Mary (fiancé Jason Korth) Courtney, Sarah (Patrick) McElhone, Ann (Jeff) Bell, Colleen (Mike) Sazama, and Megan (Nick) Vitrano; as well as fifteen great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister Ann Courtney.
The funeral liturgy for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family members and friends are invited to gather directly at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Loaves and Fishes or to Holy Cross Parish.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who helped to make Mary's journey as comfortable as possible. They include her special cousins, Mary and Nina Ellenbecker; her good friend Jill Skaletski; the many neighbors from Riverside Drive and Rose Hill Road; Deacon Mark and Mary Ebben; St. Paul Hospice Services, especially Melissa, Cris, Lauren, Ellen, Julie, Karen, and Diane; Brightstar Care, especially Kelly and Amy; the countless friends and loved ones who sent cards, letters, notes, prayers, and came to visit, and to Schenck, SC, who graciously gave Ellen all the time she needed to be with Mary. We consider each of you to be a special angel in our lives, and will never forget the kindness and love you have shown.
Mary's caregivers always asked her, "Mary, are you comfortable?" She would always respond with, "Yes, for now." Mary, you know now that there is no greater comfort than resting safely in the arms of Jesus. As hard as it is on all of us, we know that you are finally comfortable
