John J. Kieffer, 100, Darlington, passed away March 16, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington.
He was born Dec. 8, 1910 in Grand Duchy, Luxembourg, the son of Peter and Caroline (Junger) Kieffer.
John migrated with his family from Luxembourg to Mineral Point in March 1911. In 1936, they moved to Darlington Township where John worked for his neighbors on their farms. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Moran, a niece of Tom Murphy, on Nov. 22, 1951 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. Following their marriage, John and Marjorie farmed on the Murray Farm and after five years they purchased the Ed Gable Farm, where they remained until 1994 when they moved into Darlington.
John was a very active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington and a member of its Knights of Columbus Lodge #1080. He worked at about every job there was in the parish, but especially enjoyed training the children to serve Mass and had served Mass himself for many years. John and Marjorie's greatest joy was to pray the rosary and give thanks for the day's accomplishments every evening.
