    Obituary:
Marie T. Lamers, age 94, New London, formerly of Appleton and Little Chute, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. She was born in Little Chute on April 18, 1916, to the late John and Frances (Van Ewyk) Welhouse. She graduated with 28 others in the first graduating class from St. Johns in Little Chute in 1933. Marie married John G. Lamers on June 22, 1937, who preceded her in death in 1986, after almost 50 years of marriage.
Marie was a member of the Homemakers Club and loved to sew. She made and gave away quilts, pillows, crocheted hangers and nylon scratches. Marie was a good cook and was known for her sea foam candy and mountains of fried tomatoes. She was famous for playing her accordion that was a gift from John in the 1950s. She was self-taught on the accordion, her trademark tune was, "You are My Sunshine." She even played with small bands that would come to Greenville Manor on occasion, where she lived in the early 2000s.
John and Marie loved to travel and went on many trips by car, bus, train, air and ferry. They also flew to Alaska many times, a total of twelve times for Marie. She also visited Washington, Arizona, South Carolina, California and Cape Cod.
Survivors include four children and a grandson: Barbara Johnson, New London; Helen (Richard) Boyle, New London; Sharon (Allan) Lamers-Woodin, New London, and Wayne (Carol) Lamers, Appleton; her grandson, Bryan (Karol) Johnson, Fairbanks, Alaska. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass for Marie will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St. (one block south of Main St.) in Little Chute, with Father James Vanden Hogan officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery, Menasha. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
The family would like to thank Sharon and the staff at Greenville Manor for their loving care of our beloved mother while she lived there, she loved you all like family. Many thanks to Dr. Fuhrmann and Chris. Special and heartfelt thanks to St. Joe's Residence in New London where Marie lived for the last three years. Everyone there went above and beyond all expectation in Marie's care and well-being. Heartland Hospice made the last year of Marie's life at St. Joe's comfortable for her and bearable for the family, taking us step by step through the emotional process of dying. They were wonderful and we thank them also. Marie made a huge impact on many, many lives. She will be greatly missed.
