  Donald "Don" Stern, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Living Tree in Greenville of natural causes. Don was born on the family farm on May 4, 1920, to the late Walter and Minnie (Rose) Stern. He graduated from New London High School in 1938, where he was very active in sports. On June 22, 1941, he married Anne Otterson in Scandanavia, WI. Shortly after marriage, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Don returned home to raise his family and work for Bordens and on the farm. Don and his wife started their ceramic business called Trollhjem Ceramics in 1967 and stayed in business until the early 1990s. Don and Ann won numerous awards for their china painting. They were married for 70 years and loved to travel extensively around the world. Don also enjoyed hunting. Don is survived by two sons, Clifford (Pat) and Charles (Sylvia); two grandchildren, Maggie Stern and Mike (Karen) Stern; one great grandson, Anikan Stern, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anne; two brothers, Gerhardt and Ervin and two sisters, Ruth Holsen and Dorothy Ramsdell. Funeral services for Don will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London, with the Rev. Marcus Schulz officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 directly at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London, with full military honors.
