Verneta 'Cookie' O. Vian SPARTA, Wis. - Verneta "Cookie" O. Vian, 73, of Sparta, died Saturday, De c. 1, 2001, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. She was bo rn on Jan. 4, 1928, at Pine Hollow, near Cashton, Wis. to Casper and Elean ora (Suhr) Leis. She grew up in the Sparta area and started working for t he Monroe County Telephone Company when she was 15.Cookie married Arthur Vian on Feb. 22, 1947, in Sparta. After marriage th ey lived in the Sparta area. She retired from the telephone company in 198 3. They then owned and operated A&K Sales in Sparta. She was a member of t he Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Lioness, and St. Patrick's Catholic Ch urch.She is survived by her children, Dennis (Alice) Vian of Forestville, Wis ., Ronald (Roseann) Vian of Sparta, Thomas (Jill) Vian of Sparta, Vicki (B ruce) Olson of Sparta; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two broth ers, Gerald (Marie) Leis of Sparta, and Reynold (Angie) Leis of Viroqua.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur on April 2 3, 2001; a grandson, Darin; and two brothers, Kenneth and Harvey.Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Ch urch, Sparta, with Father James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial wi ll be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Sparta.Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, on Tuesday fr om 5 to 8 p.m. and at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8 until 9:45 a. m. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday . Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
