1	1818	26 Oct 1818: Wisconsin History October 26, 1818: Wisconsin was divided into three counties when it was part of the Michigan Territory. The northern county was named Michilimackinac County, the eastern county was named Brown County and the western county was named Crawford County.
2	1822	1822: Appleton History Eleazar Williams led a group of New York Indians to their new reservation west of Green Bay. 1822: Kaukauna History The Stockbridge and Munee tribes settle on the south side of the river at Statesburg.
3	1824	1824: Kaukauna History the first real road to be opened in Wisconsin was laid out in 1824 along the east side of the Fox, from Green Bay to Kaukauna.
4	1825	1825: USA History Sixth President of the US is John Quincy Adams 1825-1829 1825: Kaukauna History Daniel Whitney builds a sawmill on the south side of Kaukauna almost opposite Grignon\'s.
5	1827	1827: Appleton History At a site on Little Lake Butte des Morts, Michigan Territorial Governor Lewis Cass negotiated a treaty with the Indian leaders that gave the United States government control over almost all of the Fox River Valley.
6	1828	1828: Kaukauna History In spring, Rev. Jesse Miner arrives to minister to the Stockbridge and Munsee tribes living in Statesburg on the south side of the river.
7	1829	1829: USA History Seventh President of the US is Andrew Jackson 1829-1837
8	1830	1830: Kaukauna History Augustin and Nancy Grignon leave Kaukauna for their holdings in Buttes des Morts. Their sons, Charles and Alexander take over the business and family homestead.
9	1832	1832: Kaukauna History The Black Hawk War. 14 Jul 1832: Wisconsin History July 14, 1832: Congress appropriated $5,000 for surveying the route of what became the Military Road, connecting forts Crawford, Winnebago and Howard. James Doty and Alexander Center surveyed the road in 1832. It was built, in part, by troops under the command of Zachary Taylor. The 234-mile road cost $12,000.
10	1834	1834: Appleton History The United States government made the first survey of the Fox River Valley, beginning with the area south of the river.
11	1835	1835: Appleton History Hippolyte Paul Grignon built his home and trading post 1835: Appleton History Walter L. Newberry and Joshua Hathaway, Jr., land speculators from Chicago and Milwaukee, became the first to buy land that would one day be a part of Appleton. 1835: Kaukauna History Dam dug at DePere -- one of the first construction projects which was part of the Fox River Locks system 1835: Kaukauna History Paul Beaulieu settles on the south side of Kaukauna (on the hill east of Konkapot Creek). He and James Boyd, a son-in-law to George Lawe, buy and operate Whitney\'s sawmill.
12	1836	1836: Appleton History Wis. Territorial Governor Henry Dodge, representing the U.S. government, purchased about four million acres of NE Wisconsin from the native Indians. 1836: Kaukauna History Paul Ducharme sells the remainder of his Kaukauna holdings to Judge John Lawe to cove his debts to Lawe. Lawe in turn gives the holdings to his son, George.
13	1837	1837: Kaukauna History Charles Grignon builds his mansion in the woods as a gift for his bride
14	1839	1839: Kaukauna History The village of Kaukauna is incorporated 1839: Kaukauna History George Lawe moves to Kaukauna, builds a home, opens a trading post and a farm.
15	1841	1841: USA History Ninth President of the US is William Henry Harrison 1841 1841: USA History Tenth President of the US is John Tyler 1841-1845
16	1842	1842: Kaukauna History Nancy Grignon dies at age 53 at Buttes de Morts. 1842: Kaukauna History Immigrant Michael Klein who born in Germany in 1803, settles on the south bank.
